Displays the estimated maximum distance that can be driven with
the quantity of fuel remaining.
• This distance is computed based on your average fuel consumption. As
a result, the actual distance that can be driven may differ from that dis-
played.
• When only a small amount of fuel is added to the tank, the display may
not be updated.
When refueling, turn the engine switch off. If the vehicle is refueled with-
out turning the engine switch off, the display may not be updated.

1203-2. Opening, closing and locking the doors
COROLLA_TMMMS_TMMC_U (OM12J84U)n
Note for the entry function
lEven when the electronic key is within the effective range (detection areas),
the system may not operate properly in the following cases:
• The electronic key is too close to the window or outside door handle, near
the ground, or in a high place when the doors are locked or unlocked.
• The electronic key is near the ground or in a high place, or too close to
the rear bumper center when the trunk is opened.
• The electronic key is on the instrument panel, rear package tray or floor, or in the door pockets or glove box when the engine is started or engine
switch modes are changed.
l Do not leave the electronic key on top of the instrument panel or near the
door pockets when exiting the vehicle. Depending on the radio wave recep-
tion conditions, it may be detected by the antenna outside the cabin and the
doors will become lockable from the outside, possibly trapping the electronic
key inside the vehicle.
l As long as the electronic key is within the effective range, the doors may be
locked or unlocked by anyone. However, only the doors detecting the elec-
tronic key can be used to unlock the vehicle.
l Even if the electronic key is not inside the vehicle, it may be possible to start
the engine if the electronic key is near the window.
l The doors may unlock or lock if a large amount of water splashes on the
door handle, such as in the rain or in a car wash, when the electronic key is
within the effective range. (The doors will automatically be locked after
approximately 60 seconds if the doors are not opened and closed.)
l If the wireless remote control is used to lock the doors when the electronic
key is near the vehicle, there is a possibility that the door may not be
unlocked by the entry function. (Use the wireless remote control to unlock
the doors.)
l Touching the door lock or unlock sensor while wearing gloves may prevent
lock or unlock operation.
l When the lock operation is performed using the lock sensor, recognition sig-
nals will be shown up to two consecutive times. After this, no recognition
signals will be given.
l If the door handle becomes wet while the electronic key is within the effec-
tive range, the door may lock and unlock repeatedly. In this case, follow the
following correction procedures to wash the vehicle:
• Place the electronic key in a location 6 ft. (2 m) or more away from the
vehicle. (Take care to ensure that the key is not stolen.)
• Set the electronic key to battery-saving mode to disable the smart key
system. ( P. 118)
l Vehicles with a drive monitor display: If the electronic key is inside the vehi-
cle and a door handle becomes wet during a car wash, a buzzer will sound
outside the vehicle. To turn off the alarm, lock all the doors.

*: To improve fuel efficiency and reduce noises, set the shift lever in D fornormal driving.
Press the switch.
Suitable for enhancing the fuel
economy, because the torque cor-
responding to the accelerator
pedal depression amount can be
generated more smoothly than it is
in normal conditions and the oper-
ation of the air conditioning system
(heating/cooling) will be minimized.
Press the switch again to return to

braking, engine braking will not activate while downshifting to S because
cruise control will not be canceled. ( P. 201)

To drive in temporary gear steps selection mode, operate the “-” and
“+” paddle shift switches. The gear steps can then be selected by
operating the “-” and “+” paddle shift switches. By selecting gear step
using paddle shift switches, you can control engine braking forces.

Maintenance and care
COROLLA_TMMMS_TMMC_U (OM12J84U)
nEngine oil consumption
A certain amount of engine oil will be consumed while driving. In the following
situations, oil consumption may increase, and engine oil may need to be
refilled in between oil maintenance intervals.
lWhen the engine is new, for example directly after purchasing the vehicle or
after replacing the engine
l If low quality oil or oil of an inappropriate viscosity is used
l When driving at high engine speeds or with a heavy load, or when driving
while accelerating or decelerating frequently
l When leaving the engine idling for a long time, or when driving frequently
through heavy traffic
CAUTION
n Used engine oil
lUsed engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may
cause skin disorders such as inflammation and skin cancer, so care
should be taken to avoid prolonged and repeated contact. To remove used
engine oil from your skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
l Dispose of used oil and filters only in a safe and acceptable manner. Do
not dispose of used oil and filters in household trash, in sewers or onto the
ground.
Call your Toyota dealer, service station or auto parts store for information
concerning recycling or disposal.
l Do not leave used engine oil within the reach of children.
NOTICE
nTo prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on a regular basis.
n When replacing the engine oil
lBe careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components.
l Avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged.
l Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the vehicle.
l Be sure the engine oil filler cap is properly tightened.

lVehicles with a drive monitor disp lay: The high engine coolant tem-
perature warning light ( P. 498) comes on or a loss of power is
experienced.
Vehicles with a multi-information display: The engine coolant tem-
perature gauge ( P. 82) enters the red zone or a loss of power is
experienced.
l Steam comes out from under the hood.
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the air conditioning sys-
tem, and then stop the engine.
If you see steam:
Carefully lift the hood after the steam subsides.
If you do not see steam:
Carefully lift the hood.
After the engine has cooled
down sufficient ly, inspect the
hoses and radiator core (radia-
tor) for any leaks.
