Press and hold one of the
HomeLink buttons and the
transmitter button. When the
HomeLink
indicator light
changes from a slow to a
rapid flash, you can release
both buttons.
If the HomeLink indicator light
comes on but does not flash, or
flashes rapidly for 2 seconds
and remains lit, the HomeLink
button is already programmed.
Use the other buttons or follow
the “Reprogramming a
HomeLink
button” instructions.
( P. 365)
Test the HomeLink opera-
tion by pressing the newly
programmed button.
If a HomeLink button has been
programmed for a garage door,
check to see if the garage door
opens and closes. If the garage
door does not operate, see if
your remote control transmitter
is of the rolling code type. Press
and hold the programmed
HomeLink
button. The remote
control transmitter is of the roll-
ing code type if the HomeLink
indicator light flashes rapidly for
2 seconds and then remains lit.
If your transmitter is of the roll-
ing code type, proceed to the
heading “Programming a Rolling
Code system”.
Repeat the steps above to program another device for any of the
remaining HomeLink buttons.

Programming a Rolling Code system (for U.S. owners)
If your device is Rolling Code equipped, follow the steps under the heading
“Programming HomeLink” before proceeding with the steps listed below.
Locate the learn button on the ceiling mounted garage door
opener motor. The exact location and color of the button may
vary by brand of garage door opener motor.
Refer to the operation manual supplied with the garage door opener
motor for the location of the learn button.
Press the learn button.
Following this step, you have 30 seconds in which to initiate step 3
below.
Press and hold the vehicle’s programmed HomeLink button for
2 seconds and then release it. R epeat this step once again. The
garage door may open.
If the garage door opens, the programming process is complete. If the
door does not open, press and release the button a third time. This third
press and release will complete the programming process by opening
the garage door.
The ceiling mounted garage door opener motor should now recognize
the HomeLink
signal and operate the garage door.
Repeat the steps above to program another rolling code system
for any of the remaining HomeLink buttons.
nProgramming an entry gate (for U.S. owners)/Programming a
device in the Canadian market
Place the remote control transmitter 1 to 3 in. (25 to 75 mm)
away from the HomeLink
buttons.
Keep the HomeLink indicator light in view while programming.
Press and hold the selected HomeLink button.
Repeatedly press and release (cyc le) the remote control trans-
mitter for 2 seconds each until step 4 is completed.
When the HomeLink
indicator light starts to flash rapidly,
release the buttons.
Test the HomeLink
operation by pressing the newly pro-
grammed button. Check to see if the gate/device operates cor-
rectly.
Repeat the steps above to program another device for any of the
remaining HomeLink
buttons.

nBefore programming
lInstall a new battery in the remote control transmitter.
l The battery side of the remote control transmitter must be pointed away
from the HomeLink
button.
n To prevent 12-volt battery discharge
HomeLink
will turn off if a door has not been opened and closed for 20 min-
utes or the power switch is left turned off. (After which programming cannot
be completed.) Open and close a door or turn the power switch to ACCES-
SORY mode to turn HomeLink
on. We recommend programming while the
power switch is in ACCESSORY mode.

there are no loose connections, cracks, or loose clamps.

n Before recharging
When recharging, the 12-volt battery produces hydrogen gas which is flam-
mable and explosive. Therefore, observe the following precautions before
recharging:
lIf recharging with the 12-volt battery installed on the vehicle, be sure to dis-
connect the ground cable.
l Make sure the power switch on the charger is off when connecting and dis-
connecting the charger cables to the 12-volt battery.
n After recharging/reconnecting the 12-volt battery
lUnlocking the doors using the smart key system may not be possible imme-
diately after reconnecting the 12-volt battery. If this happens, use the wire-
less remote control or the mechanical key to lock/unlock the doors.
l Start the hybrid system with the power switch in ACCESSORY mode. The
hybrid system may not start with the power switch turned off. However, the
hybrid system will operate normally from the second attempt.
l The power switch mode is recorded by the vehicle. If the 12-volt battery is
reconnected, the vehicle will return the power switch mode to the status it
was in before the 12-volt battery was disconnected. Make sure to turn off
the power before disconnecting the 12-volt battery. Take extra care when
connecting the 12-volt battery if the power switch mode prior to discharge is
unknown.
If the system will not start even after multiple attempts, contact your Toyota
dealer.

nUse a CR2032 lithium battery
lBatteries can be purchased at your Toyota dealer, local electrical appliance
shops or camera stores.
l Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by
the manufacturer.
l Dispose of used batteries according to local laws.
n If the key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
lThe smart key system and wireless remote control will not function properly.
l The operational range will be reduced.
WARNING
n Removed battery and other parts
These parts are small and if swallowed by a child, they can cause choking.
Keep away from children. Failure to do so could result in death or serious
injury.
NOTICE
nFor normal operation after replacing the battery
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents:
lAlways work with dry hands.
Moisture may cause the battery to rust.
l Do not touch or move any other component inside the remote control.
l Do not bend either of the battery terminals.

Using the mechanical key (P.
107) in order to perform the fol-
lowing operations (driver’s door
only):
Locks all doors
Closes the windows and moon
roof (turn and hold)
*
Unlocks the door
Turning the key rearward unlocks the driver's door. Turning the key once
again unlocks the other doors.
Opens the windows and moon roof (turn and hold)*
*
: This setting must be customized at your Toyota dealer.
If the electronic key does not operate
properly
If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is
interrupted ( P. 124) or the electronic key cannot be used
because the battery is depleted, the smart key system and wire-
less remote control cannot be used. In such cases, the doors
can be opened and the hybrid syst em can be started by follow-
ing the procedure below.

When trouble arises
CAMRY_HV_U (OM33C35U)
nStarting the hybrid system when th e 12-volt battery is discharged
The hybrid system cannot be started by push-starting.
n To prevent 12-volt battery discharge
lTurn off the headlights and the audio system while the hybrid system is off.
l Turn off any unnecessary electrical components when the vehicle is running
at a low speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic.
n Charging the 12-volt battery
The electricity stored in the 12-volt battery will discharge gradually even when
the vehicle is not in use, due to natural discharge and the draining effects of
certain electrical appliances. If the vehicle is left for a long time, the 12-volt
battery may discharge, and the hybrid system may be unable to start. (The
12-volt battery recharges automatically during driving.)
n When recharging or repl acing the 12-volt battery
l In some cases, it may not be possible to unlock the doors using the smart
key system when the 12-volt battery is discharged. Use the wireless remote
control or the mechanical key to lock or unlock the doors.
l The hybrid system may not start on the first attempt after the 12-volt battery
has recharged but will start normally after the second attempt. This is not a
malfunction.
l The power switch mode is memorized by the vehicle. When the 12-volt bat-
tery is reconnected, the system will return to the mode it was in before the
12-volt battery was discharged. Before disconnecting the 12-volt battery,
turn the power switch off.
If you are unsure what mode the power switch was in before the 12-volt bat-
tery discharged, be especially careful when reconnecting the 12-volt battery.
