■ Conditions under which the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode
may not function correctly
In the case of the following conditions, operate the brake pedal (or accelera-
tor pedal, depending on the situation) as necessary.
As the sensor may not be able to correctly detect vehicles ahead, the system
may not operate properly.
● When the vehicle ahead of you decelerates suddenly
● When the road curves or when the lanes
are narrow
● When steering wheel operation or your
position in the lane is unstable

■Operating conditions
● The Stop & Start system is operational when all of the following conditions
are met:
• The windshield defogger is turned off.
• The driver’s seat belt is fastened.
• The engine is adequately warmed up.
• The driver’s door is closed.
• The clutch pedal is not being depressed.
• The outside temperature is -5°C (23°F) or higher.
• The shift lever is in N.
• The hood is closed.
● In the following situations the engine may not be stopped by the Stop & Start
system. This is not a malfunction of the Stop & Start system.
• The air conditioning system is being used when the ambient temperature
is high or low.
• The battery is not sufficiently charged, such as if the vehicle has been
parked for a long time and the battery charge has decreased, the electric
load is large, the battery temperature is excessively low or the battery has
deteriorated, or is under going a periodic recharge.
• The brake booster vacuum is low.
• The steering wheel is being operated.
• Due to traffic or other circumstances the vehicle is stopped repeatedly.
• The vehicle is being driven in a high altitude area.
• Engine coolant temperature or tr ansmission fluid temperature is
extremely low or high.
• The battery fluid temperature is extremely low or high.
• For a while after the battery terminals have been disconnected and
reconnected.
• For a while after the battery has been replaced.

● In the following situations, the engine will restart automatically if the engine
is stopped by the Stop & Start system. (To enable stopping of the engine by
the Stop & Start system, drive the vehicle.)
• The air conditioning system is turned on.
• The windshield defogger is turned on.
• The steering wheel is operated.
• The driver’s seat belt is unfastened.
• The driver’s door is opened.
• The Stop & Start cancel switch is pressed.
• The vehicle starts to roll on an incline.
● In the following situations, the engine may restart automatically if the engine
is stopped by the Stop & Start system. (To enable stopping of the engine by
the Stop & Start system, drive the vehicle.)
• The brake pedal is pumped or strongly depressed.
• The air conditioning system is being used.
• The battery is not sufficiently charged.
■ Hood
● Even if the hood is opened while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start
system, the engine will stall and will not be able to be restarted by the auto-
matic engine start function. In this case, restart the engine using the normal
engine starting procedure. ( P. 233, 236)
● If the hood is closed after the engine is started with the hood open, the Stop
& Start system will not operate. Close the hood, turn the engine switch off,
wait 30 seconds or more, and then start the engine.

“For brake system”
• The vehicle is being driven in a high
altitude area.
• The brake booster vacuum is low.
When the brake booster vacuum reaches
a predetermined level, the system will be
enabled.
“Steering wheel
turned”The steering wheel h as been operated.
“Hood open”The hood has been opened.
“Driver seat belt

• The Stop & Start system is temporarily
disabled.
Operating the engine for a short while.
• The engine may have been started with
the hood open.
Close the hood, turn the engine switch off,
wait for 30 seconds or more, and then start
the engine.
“System Temp
Low”
The battery may be cold.
Operating the engine for a short while
allows the system to recover due to the
temperature increase in the engine com-
partment.
“System Temp
High”
The battery may be extremely hot.
If the engine compartment is allowed to
cool sufficiently, the system recovers.
“Non-dedicated
battery”
A non-dedicated battery for the Stop &
Start system may have been installed.
The Stop & Start system does not operate.
Have the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized

■The Toyota parking assist-sensor can be operated when
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system:
The engine switch is in the “ON” position.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system:
The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
● Front corner sensors/front center sensors:
• Vehicles with a Multidrive: The shift lever is in a position other than P.
• Vehicle speed is approximately 10 km/h (6 mph) or less
● Front side sensors/rear side sensors:
• Vehicles with a Multidrive: The shift lever is in a position other than P.
• Vehicle speed is approximately 10 km/h (6 mph) or less
• Steering wheel is turned approximately 90° or more
● Rear corner sensors/rear center sensors:
The shift lever is in R.
■ Sensor detection information
● The sensor detection areas are limited to the areas around the vehicle bum-
pers.
● Depending on the shape of the obstacle and other factors, the detection dis-
tance may shorten, or detection may be impossible.
● Obstacles may not be detected if they are too close to the sensor.
● There will be a short delay between obstacle detection and display. Even
when traveling at a low speed, if you come too close to an obstacle before
the display and buzzer activate, the display and buzzer may not activate at
all.
● Thin posts or objects lower than the sensor may not be detected when
approached, even if they have been detected once.
● It might be difficult to hear beeps due to the volume of audio system or air
flow noise of the air conditioning system.

S-IPA (Simple Intelligent Parking Assist
System)
The Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System automatically operates
the steering wheel to provide support when backing into a target park-
ing spot, and when departing from a parallel parking spot. (Shift lever
operations and speed adjustment when moving forward or backing up
are not performed automatically.)
● The Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System does not park the
vehicle automatically. It is a system that provides support when
parking in parallel or perpendicular parking spaces, as well as pull-
ing out of parallel parking spaces.
● The Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System provides steering
wheel operation assistance to guide the vehicle toward the targeted
parking spot. The selected intended parking spot may not always
be reachable, depending on road and vehicle conditions at the time
of parking.

WARNING
● When backing up or proceeding forward, be sure to directly confirm the
safety of the area to the front or rear, and the area around the vehicle, and
slowly back up or proceed forward while adjusting the vehicle speed by
depressing the brake pedal.
● If it seems the vehicle may make contact with a pedestrian, another vehi-
cle or any other obstacles, stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal,
and then press the S-IPA switch ( P. 422) to turn the system off.

position/the position at which assist
control ends.
■ S-IPA indicator inside the meter (P. 422)
This indicator illuminates when the steering wheel auto operation is being
performed by the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System. After control
ends, the indicator blinks for a short period of time and then turns off.
■ Clearance sonar pop-up display
While the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is operating the steering wheel
automatically, if the clearance sonar function detects an obstacle, the clearance
sonar display automatically pops up on the guidance screen ( P. 409), regard-
less of whether the clearance sonar function is on or off ( P. 409).
■ Shifting while the Simple Intelligent Parking Assist System is operating
The assist will continue even when the shift is operated with no regard to the
forward/reverse directions from the system. However, it will switch over,
increasing the number of turn maneuvers, and may deviate from the parking
position.
