Turn the engine switch off.
Open the glove box. (P. 274)
Remove the glove box cover.
Press the tabs and remove the
filter cover.
Remove the air conditioning fil-
ter and replace it with a new
one.
The “ UP” marks shown on the fil-
ter should be pointing up.

The air conditioning filter must be changed regularly to maintain
air conditioning efficiency.

■Checking interval
Inspect and replace the air conditioning filter according to the maintenance
schedule. In dusty areas or areas with heavy traffic flow, early replacement
may be required. (For scheduled maintenance information, please refer to the
“Schedule maintenance guide” or “Owner’s Manual Supplement”.)
■ If air flow from the vents decreases dramatically
The filter may be clogged. Check the filter and replace if necessary.
■ Air conditioning filter deodorizing function
This vehicle is equipped with a deodorizing charcoal air filter to reduce odor
from the air conditioning system.
When items or products which emit fragrances or odors are placed in your
vehicle, the deodorizing effect may be significantly weakened in a short
period of time.
If frequent or strong odor comes from your air conditioning system, replace
the air conditioning filter.
NOTICE
■ When using the ai r conditioning system
Make sure that a filter is always installed.
Using the air conditioning system without a filter may cause damage to the
system.

PCS warning light
• When the warning light flashes (and a buzzer sounds): Indicates a malfunction in the PCS (Pre-Collision System)
 Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
• When the warning light flashes (and a buzzer does not sound):
Indicates that the PCS (Pre-Collision System) is tempo-
rarily unavailable, possibly due to either of the following:
• An area around the radar sensor or camera sensor is
dirty or covered with condensation, ice, etc.
 Clear the dirt, fog, condensat ion, ice, stickers, etc.

• Operating conditions of the radar sensor or camera sen- sor (temperature, etc.) are not met.
 It is possible to drive the vehicle. The PCS can be
operated when the operat ing conditions (tempera-
ture, etc.) are met.
• When the warning light is illuminated: Either the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system or PCS
(Pre-Collision System) is disabled or both are disabled.
 To enable the PCS, enable both the VSC system and
PCS. ( P. 200, 250)

When a tire is replaced with a spare tire
The compact spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure warning valve
and transmitter. If a tire goes flat,
the tire pressure warning light will not
turn off even though the flat tire has been replaced with the spare tire.
Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire and adjust the tire inflation
pressure. The tire pressu re warning light will go off after a few minutes.
■Conditions that the tire pressure warning system may not function

■If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking
for 1 minute
If the tire pressure warning light frequently comes on after blinking for 1
minute when the engine switch is tu rned to IGNITION ON mode, have it
checked by your Toyota dealer.
■ Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard because of noisy place or an
audio sound.
WARNING
■If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact your Toyota
dealer. The vehicle will become extrem ely unstable during braking, and the
ABS system may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or
serious injury.
■ When the electric power steerin g system warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavie r than usual when operating, hold
firmly and operate using more force than usual.
■
If the tire pressure warning light comes on
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could
cause a loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
●Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire
inflation pressure immediately.
●If the tire pressure warning light comes on even after tire inflation pres-
sure adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat tire. Check the tires.
If a tire is flat, change it with th e spare tire and have the flat tire
repaired by the nearest Toyota dealer.
●Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires deteriorate,
you could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
■If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.

●The needle of the engine coolant temperature gauge ( P. 7 9 )
enters the red zone or a loss of engine power is experienced.
(For example, the vehicle speed does not increase.)
● “Engine Coolant Temp is High” is shown on the multi-information
display.
● Steam comes out from under the hood.
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the air conditioning sys-
tem, and then stop the engine.
If you see steam:
Carefully lift the hood after the steam subsides.
If you do not see steam:
Carefully lift the hood.
After the engine has cooled
down sufficient ly, inspect the
hoses and radiator core (radia-
tor) for any leaks.

Add engine coolant if neces-
sary.
Water can be used in an emer-
gency if engine coolant is unavail-
able.
Start the engine and turn the air conditioning system on to check
that the radiator cooling fans oper ate and to check for coolant leaks
from the radiator or hoses.
The fans operate when the air conditioning system is turned on immedi-
ately after a cold start. Confirm that the fans are operating by checking the
fan sound and air flow. If it is difficult to check these, turn the air condition-
ing system on and off repeatedly. (The fans may not operate in freezing
temperatures.)
If the fans are not operating:
Stop the engine immediately and contact your Toyota dealer.
If the fans are operating:
Have the vehicle in spected at the nearest Toyota dealer.
