●It is recommended that children sit in the rear seats to avoid acci-
dental contact with the shift lever, wiper switch, etc.
● Use the rear door child-protector lock or the window lock switch to
avoid children opening the door while driving or operating the
power window accidentally.
● Do not let small children operate equipment which may catch or
pinch body parts, such as the power window, hood, back door,
seats, etc.
Safety infor mation for children
Observe the following precautions when children are in the vehi-
cle.
Use a child restraint system appropriate for the child, until the
child becomes large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat
belt.
WARNING
Never leave children unattended in the vehicle, and never allow children to
have or use the key.
Children may be able to start the vehicle or shift the vehicle into neutral.
There is also a danger that children may injure themselves by playing with
the windows or other features of the vehicle. In addition, heat build-up or
extremely cold temperatures inside the vehicle can be fatal to children.

The alarm uses light and sound to give an alert when an intrusion is
detected.
The alarm is triggered in the following situations when the alarm is
set:
●A locked door is unlocked or opened in any way other than using
the entry function or wireless remote control. (The doors will lock
again automatically.)
● The hood is opened.
● The intrusion sensor detects something moving inside the vehicle.
(An intruder gets in the vehicle.)
● The back door window is tapped or broken.
Close the doors and hood, and
lock all the doors using the entry
function or wireless remote con-
trol. The system will be set auto-
matically after 30 seconds.
The indicator light changes from
being on to flashing when the sys-
tem is set.

Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations:
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
■ Alarm-operated door lock
In the following cases, depending on the situation, the door may automatically
lock to prevent improper entry into the vehicle:
●When a person remaining in the vehicle unlocks the door and the alarm is
activated.
● While the alarm is activated, a person remaining in the vehicle unlocks the
door.
● When recharging or replacing the 12-volt battery
●
The doors are unlocked using the key.
● A person inside the vehicle opens a door
or the hood.
● The 12-volt battery is disconnected.
NOTICE
■To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify or remove the system. If modified or removed, the proper
operation of the system cannot be guaranteed.

Driving
■If the PCS warning light flashes and a warning message is displayed on
the multi-information display
The pre-crash safety system may be temporarily unavailable or there may be
a malfunction in the system.
●In the following situations, the warning light will turn off, the message will
disappear and the system will beco me operational when normal operating
conditions return:
• When the area around the front sensor is hot, such as in the sun
• When the windshield is fogged up or covered with condensation or ice (→ P. 384)
• When the front sensor or the area around either sensor is cold, such as in
an extremely cold environment
• If the area in front of the front sens or is obstructed, such as when the
hood is open
● If the PCS warning light continues to flash or the warning message is not
cleared, the system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by
any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.
■ If VSC is disabled
●If TRC and VSC are disabled ( →P. 307), the pre-crash brake assist and pre-
crash braking functions are also disabled. However, the pre-crash warning
function will still operate.
● The PCS warning light illuminates and “Pre-Crash Brake is disabled due to
VSC OFF.” is displayed on the multi-information display.

Pull the hood lock release lever.
The hood will pop up slightly.
Pull up the auxiliary catch lever
and lift the hood.
Hold the hood open by inserting
the support rod into the slot.

Release the lock from the inside of the vehicle to open the hood.

Maintenance and care
WARNING
■ Pre-driving check
Check that the hood is fully closed and locked.
If the hood is not locked properly, it may open while the vehicle is in motion
and cause an accident, which may result in death or serious injury.
■ After installing the support rod into the slot
Make sure the rod supports the hood se curely preventing it from falling
down onto your head or body.
NOTICE
■When closing the hood
Be sure to return the support rod to its clip before closing the hood. Closing
the hood with the support rod not clipped could cause the hood to bend.

When trouble arises
If you have a set of jumper (or booster) cables and a second vehicle
with a 12-volt battery, you can jump start your vehicle by following the
steps below.Vehicles with an alarm: Confirm

Open the hood and fuse block
cover.
Open the exclusive jump start-
ing terminal cover.
If the 12-volt batter y is discharged
The following procedures may be used to start the hybrid sys-
tem if the 12-volt battery is discharged.
You can also call any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.
