this class 1 laser product is so weak that there is no risk of danger when
operated correctly.■
This product is designed such that the laser is restricted to the inside of
Infotainment. However, the installed laser could be classified in a higher
class were the housing to be removed. For this reason, never remove Info-
tainment housing.

Introductory information
Applies to Infotainment Columbus, Amundsen, Bolero
This chapter deals with the operation of Infotainment with the telephone con-
nected via Bluetooth ®
as well as the use of the SIM card in the external mod-
ule.
Depending on the Bluetooth ®
profile used, it is possible to connect to a tele-
phone or two Telephones to the device simultaneously.
The SIM card in the external module can be used for data and telephone serv-
ices (Columbus).
If telephones are connected to Infotainment with multiple SIM cards, then calls
can be accepted by all SIM cards of the connected telephones.
For outgoing calls, it depends on the type of connected telephone, either only
the primary SIM card or one of the other SIM cards can be selected.
Infotainment allows you to choose if you want to work with text messages
from the main Telephone (if this is supported by the Telephone), or work with
text messages from the SIM card inserted in the external module.
If Infotainment is connected to an external device via Apple CarPlay, then the
use of the Bluetooth ®
connection is not possible and the Telephone menu is
not available. A possible data connection via the SIM card remains operational
» page 175 .

This chapter covers the operation of a Bluetooth ®

can be accepted by all SIM cards of the connected telephone.

Pair and connect
Introduction to the subject
The range of the connection to Infotainment is limited to the passenger com-
partment.
To connect a telephone with Infotainment, the two devices must be paired via
Bluetooth ®
.
The pairing process depends on the number of already connected telephones
or by using the SIM card inserted in the external module (Columbus)
» page 166 .
Depending on the Infotainment type, up to 20 external devices can be paired
with the device. After reaching the maximum number, the pairing of the next
external device will replace that of the device that has not been used for the
longest period of time.
A connection with a telephone that is already paired does not require pairing.
It is enough to find the telephone that has been paired in the list of paired tel-
ephones and make the connection.
WARNINGPair and connect a telephone to Infotainment only when the vehicle is at a
standstill - there is risk of an accident!1)
In some countries, the function may not be available.

Route guidance
Introduction to the subject
A route is created by starting route guidance to a destination. Additional inter-
mediate destinations can be added to the route.
The route guidance takes place as follows
▶ Through graphical driving instructions in the Infotainment display screen and
in the display of the instrument cluster.
▶ With navigation announcements.
Infotainment tries to allow for continued guidance even if the navigation data
is incomplete or there is no data at all for the given area.
The route is recalculated each time if you ignore driving recommendations or
change the route.
CAUTION
The nav. announcements provided may vary from the actual situations, e.g.
due to out-of-date navigation data.

Starting and stopping the engine
Introduction
This chapter contains information on the following subjects:
Electronic immobiliser and steering lock
199
Switch on/off ignition
200
Starting/stopping the engine
200
Problems with the engine start - vehicles with starter button
201
Depending on equipment fitted, it is possible to switch the ignition on/off and
start/stop the engine with the key in the ignition or using the starter button .
WARNING■
Never switch off the engine before the vehicle is stationary – risk of acci-
dent!■
The ignition must always be switched during the journey when the en-
gine is idling. Otherwise, the steering may lock - danger of an accident!
■
Do not withdraw the ignition key from the ignition lock until the vehicle
has come to a stop » page 205, Parking . Otherwise, the steering may lock -
danger of an accident!
■
Never leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running - there is a
risk of theft, accident etc.!
■
Never run the engine in an enclosed space (e.g. in garages) - there is the
danger of poisoning and death!
CAUTION
■ Only start the engine when the engine and the vehicle are stationary - there
is a danger of starter and engine damage!■
Do not push-start the engine – there is a risk of damaging the engine and
the catalytic converter! The battery from another vehicle can be used as a
push-start aid.
■
On vehicles with the starter button, pay attention to where the key is loca-
ted. The system can recognize the valid key, even if it has been accidentally
left on the vehicle roof - there is danger of loss or damage to the key!
NoteDo not warm up the engine while the vehicle is stationary. If possible, start
your journey as soon as the engine has started. The engine will reach its oper-
ating temperature faster.
Electronic immobiliser and steering lock
Read and observe
and on page 199 first.
The electronic immobiliser (hereinafter referred to as immobiliser) makes it
more difficult for someone to attempt to steal or use your vehicle without au-
thorisation.
Immobilizer
The immobilizer enables the engine start exclusively using the original vehicle
keys.
Malfunction of the immobilizer
If the immobiliser components in the key fail, it is not possible to start the en-
gine. A message appears in the display of the instrument cluster to explain
that the immobiliser is active.
To start, use the other vehicle key or seek help from a specialist garage.
Steering lock - lock
›
On vehicles with ignition lock, remove the key and turn the steering wheel
until the steering lock engages.
›
On vehicles with a starter button, switch off the ignition and open the driv-
er's door. If the driver's door is opened and the ignition is switched off after-
wards, the steering is only locked automatically after the vehicle has been
locked.
Steering lock - unlock
›
On vehicles with ignition lock, insert the key into the ignition and turn on the
ignition. If this is not possible, move the steering wheel slightly back and
forth and thereby unlock the steering lock.
›
On vehicles with starter button, get into the car and close the driver's door.
Under certain circumstances, the steering lock can be unlocked only when
the ignition is switched on or the engine is started.
WARNINGNever let the vehicle roll with locked steering lock - there is a risk of acci-
dent!199Starting-off and Driving
