 While driving, the function setting screen is not displayed even if you operate the multi- information meter switch. Shows the distance and number of months until the next periodic inspection.Refer to “Service reminder” on page 5-103. Shows the engine coolant temperature. If the coolant becomes hot, “ ” will blink. Pay careful attention to the engine coolant temperature display while you are driving. Shows the approximate driving range (how many more miles or kilometers you can drive) with the current fuel level. When thisdriving range falls below 30 miles (50 km), “- --” is displayed. Refuel as soon as possible.
This displays the average speed from the last reset to the present.There are 2 types of mode settings as follows. For details on how to change the average speed display setting, refer to “Changing thefunction settings (With ignition switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-105.
 When the average speed is being dis- played, if you hold down the multi-infor- mation meter switch, the average speed displayed at that time is reset. When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position from the “ACC” or “LOCK” position, the mode settingchanges automatically from manual to auto. Switching to auto occurs automatically. Ifswitching to manual mode is done, how-ever, the data from the last reset is dis- played.  When the average speed is being dis- played, if you hold down the multi-infor-mation meter switch, these calculations will be reset to zero.  When the ignition switch has been set to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position for about 4 hours or more, the average speed dis- play will automatically reset.

CAUTION If the engine is overheating, “ ” will blink. In this case, the bar graph is on the red zone. Immediately park the vehicle in a safe placeand take the required measures. Refer to “Engine overheating” on page 8-4.
Driving range display
NOTE
 The driving range is determined based on the fuel consumption data. This may vary depending on the driving conditions and hab- its. Treat the distance displayed as just a rough guideline.  When you refuel, the driving range display is automatically updated.However, if you only add a small amount of fuel, the correct value will not be displayed. Fill to a full tank whenever possible.  When your vehicle is stopped on an extremely steep hill, the driving range valuemay change. This is due to the movement of fuel in the tank and does not indicate any problem.  The display setting can be changed to the preferred units (miles or km).Refer to “Changing the function settings (With ignition switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-105.

In this case, you cannot select outside air and turn the air conditioning off.

When the mode selection dial or blower speed selection dial has been set to the “AUTO” position or when the tempera- ture control dial has been set to the mini-mum temperature, the air conditioning switch is automatically controlled.  Disable automatic air conditioning con- trol:The air conditioning switch is not auto- matically controlled, unless the air condi- tioning switch is used.  Changing the settings: Press the air conditioning switch for about10 seconds or longer. When the setting has changed, the system will beep and the indicator light will flash.• When the setting has changed from enabled to disabled, the system will beep three times and theindicator will flash three times. • When the setting has changed from dis- abled to enabled,the system will beep two times and the indicator light will flash three times.

In normal conditions, use the system in the AUTO mode and follow these procedures: 1. Set the blower speed selection dial to the “AUTO” position.

If you drive your vehicle with a low battery charge, after the engine has been started by using jumper cables, the engine may misfire. This can cause the anti-lock braking systemwarning light to blink on and off. This is only due to the low battery voltage. It is not a problem with the brake system. If this hap-pens, fully charge the battery and ensure the charging system is operating properly.

When the engine has overheated, the infor- mation screen in the multi-information dis-play will be interrupted and the engine coolant temperature warning display will appear. The screen will then change to theengine coolant temperature display screen and “ ” will flash. If this happens: 1. Stop the vehicle in a safe place. Turn on the hazard warning flashers. 2. With the engine still running, carefullyraise the engine hood to vent the engine compartment. 3. Check that the cooling fan is running. Ifthe fan is not turning, stop the engine immediately and contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facil-ity of your choice for assistance. 4. If you see steam or spray coming from under the hood, turn off the engine.
5. If you do not see steam or spray coming from under the hood, leave the engine on until the bar graph for the engine coolant temperature warning display on the multi-information display goes down. When it is in the middle of the normal zone, you can start driving again. If the bar graphstays in the red zone, turn off the engine. 6. When you do not see any more steam or spray, open the hood. Look for obvious leaks, such as a split radiator hose. Be careful as components will be hot. Anyleak source must be repaired. 7. If there is no obvious leak source, check the coolant level in the reserve tank. Ifthere is none, or if it is too low, slowly add coolant. 8. If the reserve tank needs coolant, you willprobably also need to add coolant to the radiator. Do not loosen or remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooleddown.
 Remove all the caps before charging the battery.  Electrolyte (battery acid) is corrosive diluted sulphuric acid. If electrolyte comesin contact with your hands, eyes, clothes, or the painted surface of your vehicle, thoroughly flush with water. If electrolytegets in your eyes, flush them immediately and thoroughly with water, and get prompt medical attention. Always wear protective clothing and gog- gles when working near the battery. Keep the battery out of the reach of chil- dren.
