Locking
The glove compartment can be locked with an
integrated key to separately secure the trunk
lid, refer to page 41, e.g.
This prevents access to the glove compartment
and to the trunk.
After the glove compartment is locked, the re‐
mote control can be handed over, such as at a
hotel, without the integrated key.

Breakable objects, e.g., glass bottles, can
break in the event of an accident. Broken glass
can be scattered in the vehicle's interior. There
is a a risk of injury. Do not stow any breakable

Pulsation of the brake pedal and sounds from
the hydraulic circuits indicate that ABS is in its
active mode.
Objects in the area around the pedals WARNING
Objects in the driver's floor area can limit
the pedal distance or block a depressed pedal.
There is risk of an accident. Stow objects in the
vehicle such that they are secured and cannot
enter into the driver's floor area. Use floor mats
that are suitable for the vehicle and can be
safely attached to the floor. Do not use loose
floor mats and do not layer several floor mats.
Make sure that there is sufficient clearance for
the pedals. Ensure that the floor mats are se‐
curely fastened again after they were removed,
e.g., for cleaning. ◀
Driving in wet conditions When roads are wet, salted, or in heavy rain,
press brake pedal ever so gently every few miles.
Ensure that this action does not endanger other
traffic.
The heat generated in this process helps dry
the brake discs and pads.
In this way braking efficiency will be available
when you need it.
Hills WARNING
Light but consistent brake pressure can
lead to high temperatures, brakes wearing out
and possibly even brake failure. There is risk of
an accident. Avoid placing excessive stress on
the brake system. ◀
WARNING
In idle state or with the engine switched
off, safety-relevant functions are restricted or
not available anymore, e.g., braking effect of
the engine or braking force and steering sup‐port. There is risk of an accident. Do not drive in
idle state or with the engine switched off. ◀
Drive long or steep downhill gradients in the
gear that requires least braking efforts. Other‐
wise the brakes may overheat and reduce
brake efficiency.
You can increase the engine's braking effect by
shifting down, going all the way to first gear, if
needed.
Brake disc corrosion Corrosion on the brake discs and contamina‐
tion on the brake pads are furthered by:▷Low mileage.▷Extended periods when the vehicle is not
used at all.▷Infrequent use of the brakes.
Corrosion will built up when the maximum
pressure applied to the brake pads during brak‐
ing is not reached - thus discs don't get
cleaned.
Corrosion buildup on the brake discs will cause
a pulsating effect on the brakes in their re‐
sponse - generally that cannot be corrected.
Condensation under the parked vehicle When using the automatic climate control, con‐
densation water develops collecting under‐
neath the vehicle.
Ground clearance CAUTION
If ground clearance is insufficient, there
might be contact with the front or rear spoiler
for example when driving over curbs or enter‐
ing into underground car parking garages.
There is a risk of property damage. Ensure that
there is sufficient ground clearance available. ◀

RefuelingVehicle features and op‐
tions
This chapter describes all standard, country-
specific and optional features offered with the
series. It also describes features that are not necessarily available in your car, e. g., due to
the selected options or country versions. This
also applies to safety-related functions and sys‐
tems. The respectively applicable country provi‐
sions must be observed when using the respec‐
tive features and systems.
Information Observe the fuel recommendation, refer to
page 184, prior to refueling.
ATTENTION
With a range of less than 30 miles/50 km
it is possible that the engine will no longer have
sufficient fuel. Engine functions are not ensured
anymore. There is a risk of damage to property.
Refuel promptly. ◀
Fuel lid
Opening1.Grasp the fuel filler flap at the rear edge
and open it.2.Turn the fuel cap counterclockwise.3.Place the fuel cap in the bracket attached
to the fuel filler flap.
Closing
1.Fit the cap and turn it clockwise until you
clearly hear a click.2.Close the fuel filler flap.
WARNING
The retaining strap of the fuel cap may be
jammed and crushed during closing. In this
case, the lid cannot be correctly closed and fuel
vapors or fuel can escape. There is a risk of in‐
jury or a risk of property damage. Pay attention
that the retaining strap is not jammed or
crushed when closing the lid. ◀

Changing run-flat tires
For your own safety, only use run-flat tires. No
spare tire is available in the case of a flat tire.
A dealer’s service center will be glad to answer
additional questions at any time.
Repairing a flat tireSafety measures▷Park the vehicle as far away as possible
from passing traffic and on solid ground.▷Switch on the hazard warning system.▷Secure the vehicle against rolling away by
setting the parking brake.▷Turn the steering wheel until the front
wheels are in the straight-ahead position
and engage the steering wheel lock.▷Have all vehicle occupants get out of the
vehicle and ensure that they remain out‐
side the immediate area in a safe place,
such as behind a guardrail.▷If necessary, set up a warning triangle at an
appropriate distance.
Mobility System
The concept
With the Mobility System, minor tire damage
can be sealed temporarily to enable continued
travel. To accomplish this, sealant is pumped
into the tires, which seals the damage from the
inside.
The compressor can be used to check the tire
inflation pressure.
Information
▷Follow the instructions on using the Mobi‐
lity System found on the compressor and
sealant container.▷Use of the Mobility System may be ineffec‐
tive if the tire puncture measures approx.
1/8 in/4 mm or more.▷Contact a dealer’s service center or another
qualified service center or repair shop if the
tire cannot be made drivable.▷If possible, do not remove foreign bodies
that have penetrated the tire.▷Pull the speed limit sticker off the sealant
container and apply it to the steering
wheel.▷The use of a sealant can damage the TPM
wheel electronics. In this case, have the
electronics checked at the next opportunity
and have them replaced if needed.
DANGER
If the exhaust pipe is blocked or ventila‐
tion is insufficient, harmful exhaust gases can
enter into the vehicle. The exhaust gases con‐
tain carbon monoxide, an odorless and color‐
less but highly toxic gas. In enclosed areas, ex‐
haust gases can also accumulate outside of the
vehicle. There is danger to life. Keep the ex‐
haust pipe free and ensure sufficient ventila‐
tion. ◀
Storage
The Mobility System is located under the cargo
floor panel.

Filling the tire with sealant
1.Shake the sealant container.2.Pull filling hose completely out of the cover
of the sealant bottle. Do not kink the hose.3.Slide the sealant container into the holder
on the compressor housing, ensuring that it
engages audibly.4.Screw the filling hose of the sealant con‐
tainer onto the tire valve of the nonworking

5.With the compressor switched off, insert
the plug into the power socket inside the
vehicle.6.With operating readiness switched on or
the engine running, switch on the compres‐
sor.
Let the compressor run for max. 10 minutes to
fill the tire with sealant and achieve a tire infla‐
tion pressure of approx. 2.5 bar.
While the tire is being filled with sealant, the
tire inflation pressure may sporadically reach
approx. 5 bar. Do not switch off the compressor
at this point.
ATTENTION
The compressor can overheat during ex‐
tended operation. There is a risk of damage to
property. Do not run the compressor for more
than 10 min. ◀
If a tire inflation pressure of 2 bar is not
reached:
1.Switch off the compressor.2.Unscrew the filling hose from the wheel.3.Drive forward and back to distribute the
sealant in the tire.4.Inflate the tire again using the compressor.
If a tire inflation pressure of 2 bar cannot be
reached, contact your dealer’s service cen‐
ter or another qualified service center or re‐
pair shop.
Stowing the Mobility System
1.Remove the connection hose of the sealant
container from the wheel.2.After pressing the red unlock button on the
compressor, remove the sealing container.3.Wrap the empty sealant container in suita‐
ble material to avoid dirtying the trunk.4.Stow the Mobility System back in the vehi‐
cle.
Distributing the sealant
Immediately drive approx. 5 miles/10 km to en‐
sure that the sealant is evenly distributed in the
tire.
Do not exceed a speed of 50 mph/80 km/h.
If possible, do not drive at speeds less than
12 mph/20 km/h.
To correct the tire inflation pressure
1.Stop at a suitable location.2.Screw the connection hose of the compres‐

The engine compartment accommodates
moving components. Certain components in
the engine compartment can also move with
the vehicle switched off, e.g., the radiator fan.

area of moving parts. Keep articles of clothing
and hair away from moving parts. ◀

There are protruding parts, e.g., locking
hook, on the inside of the hood. There is a a
risk of injury. If the hood is open, pay attention
to protruding parts and keep these areas

An incorrectly locked hood can open
while driving and restrict visibility. There is risk
of an accident. Stop immediately and correctly
close the hood. ◀
WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when opening
and closing the hood. There is a a risk of injury.
Make sure that the area of movement of the
hood is clear during opening and closing. ◀
ATTENTION
Folded-away wipers can be jammed
when the hood is opened. There is a risk of
damage to property. Make sure that the wipers
with the wiper blades mounted are folded
down onto the windshield before opening the
hood. ◀
