Interior lighting control
General notes
In order to prevent the vehicle's battery from
disc harging, the interior lighting functions are
automatical lydeactivated after some time
unless the SmartKey is inposition 2in the
ignit ion lock.

The interior lighting automatically switches
on ifyou:
Runlock the vehicle
Ropen a door
Rremove the SmartKey from the ignit ion lock
The interior lightis activated for a short while
when the SmartKey is removed from the igni-
tion lock. You can activate th isdelayed switch-off using the on-board computer
(
Ypage 234).
Manual interior lighting control
XTo switch
the interi orlighti ng on: set the
switch to the cposition.

switch to the |or (if the door isclosed)
to the center posit ion.
XTo switchthe reading lamps on/off:
press the pbutton.
Crash-responsive emergency lighting
The interior lighting isactivated automatical ly
if the vehicle isinvolved inan acc ident.

XLock and then unlock the vehicle using the Sm artKey.
Replacing bulbs
GDANGER
Xenon bulbs carry ahigh voltage. You can get
an electric shock if you remove th ecover of
th eXenon bulb and touch th eelectrical con-
tacts .Ther eis aris kof fatal injury.
Never touch th epart sor th eelectrical con-
tacts of th eXenon bulb. Always hav ewor kon
th eXenon bulbs carrie dout at aqualified spe-
cialist workshop.
The front and rear lamps of your vehicle are
equipp edwith either Xenon or LED bulbs. Do
not replace the bulbs yourself. Contact a
qualif ied specialist workshop which has the
necessary specialist knowledge and tools to
carry out the work required.
Bulbs and lamps are an important aspect of
vehicle safety. You must therefore make sure

that these function correctly at all times.
Have the headlamp setting checked regularly.
Windshield wipers
Switching the windshield wipers
on/off
!
Do not operate the windshield wipers
when the windshield is dry, as this could
damage the wiper blades. Moreover, dust
that has collected on the windshield can
scratch the glass if wiping takes place when
the windshield is dry.
If it is necessary to switch on the windshield
wipers in dry weather conditions, always
use washer fluid when operating the wind-
shield wipers.
!If the windshield wipers leave smears on
the windshield after the vehicle has been
washed in an automatic car wash, wax or
other residues may be the reason for this.
Clean the windshield using washer fluid
after washing the vehicle in an automatic
car wash.
!Intermittent wiping with rain sensor: due
to optical influences and the windshield
becoming dirty in dry weather conditions,
the windshield wipers may be activated
inadvertently. This could then damage the
windshield wiper blades or scratch the
windshield.
For this reason, you should always switch
off the windshield wipers in dry weather.

XSwitch on the ignition.
XTurn the combination switch to the corre-
sponding position.
In the ÄorÅ position, the appropriate
wiping frequency is set automatically accord-
ing to the intensity of the rain. In the Å
position, the rain sensor is more sensitive
than in the Äposition, causing the wind-
shield wiper to wipe more frequently.
If the wiper blades are worn, the windshield
will no longer be wiped properly. This could
prevent you from observing the traffic condi-
tions.
iThe vehicle is equipped with the MAGIC
VISION CONTROL wipe/wash system. The
washer fluid is fed through the wiper
blades; when the screen is wiped with
washer fluid î, the water is emitted
directly from the blades.

Replacing the wiper blades
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If the windshield wipers begin to move while
you are changing the wiper blades, you could be trapped by the wiper arm. There is a risk of
injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
ignition before changing the wiper blades.
!To avoid damaging the wiper blades,
make sure that you touch only the wiper
arm of the wiper.
!Never open the hood if a windshield wiper
arm has been folded away from the wind-
shield.
Never fold a windshield wiper arm without a
wiper blade back onto the windshield.
Hold the windshield wiper arm firmly when
you change the wiper blade. If you release
the windshield wiper arm without a wiper
blade and it falls onto the windshield, the
windshield may be damaged by the force of
the impact.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the wiper blades changed at a qualified
specialist workshop.
!Always position the windshield wiper
arms vertically before folding them away
from the windshield. By doing so, you will
avoid damage to the hood.
Changing the windshield wiper blades
Moving the wiper arm to a vertical posi-
tion
On vehicles without KEYLESS-GO:
XTurn the SmartKey to position 1or 2in the
ignition lock.
XSet the windshield wiper to position °.
XWhen the wiper arms have reached the ver-
tical position, turn the SmartKey to position
0 and remove it from the ignition lock.
XFold the wiper arm away from the wind-
shield until it engages.
On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO:
XSwitch off the engine.
XRemove your foot from the brake pedal.
XSet the windshield wiper to the °posi-
tion.
XPress the Start/Stop button repeatedly
until the windshield wiper starts.
XWhen the wiper arms have reached a ver-
tical position, press the Start/Stop button.
XFold the wiper arm away from the wind-
shield until it engages.
Removing a wiper blade
XTo bring the wiper blade into position to
be removed: hold the wiper arm firmly with
one hand. With the other hand, turn the
wiper blade in the direction of arrow =
beyond the point of resistance.
The wiper blade engages in the removal
position with an audible click.
XTo remove a wiper blade: firmly press
release knob ;and pull the wiper blade
upwards :.

Installing the wiper blades
XPush the new wiper blade in the direction ofarrow :onto the wiper arm until lug ;
engages.
XPush the wiper blade out of the removal
position in the direction of arrow =beyond
the point of resistance.
The wiper blade disengages with an audible
click and is freely movable again.
XMake sure that the wiper blade is seated
correctly.
XFold the wiper arm back onto the wind-
shield.

MAX COOL maximum cooling
The MAX COOL function is only available in
vehicles for the USA.
MAX COOL is only operational when the
engine is running.

The indicator lamp in the button lights up.
XTo deactivate: press theÙbutton.
The indicator lamp in the button goes out.
The previously selected settings are
restored.
When you activate MAX COOL, climate con-
trol switches to the following functions:
Rmaximum cooling
Rmaximum airflow
Rair-recirculation mode on
Defrosting the windows
Windows fogged up on the inside
XActivate the ¿cooling with air dehu-
midification function.
XActivate the Ãmode button.
XIf the windows continue to fog up, activate
the¬ "Windshield defrosting" function.
iYou should only select this setting until
the windshield is clear again.
Windows fogged up on the outside
XActivate the windshield wipers.
XPress the _button repeatedly until the
P orO symbol appears in the dis-
play.

Rear window defroster
General notes
The rear window defroster has a high current
draw. You should therefore switch it off as
soon as the rear window is clear. Otherwise,
the rear window defroster switches off auto-
matically after several minutes.
If the battery voltage is too low, the rear win-
dow defroster may switch off.

The Active Driving Assistance package con-
sists of DISTRONIC PLUS (
Ypage 182), Active
Blind Spot Assist (
Ypage 214) and Active
Lane Keeping Assist (
Ypage 217).
Active Blind Spot Assist
General notes
Active Blind Spot Assist uses a radar sensor
system to monitor the side areas of your vehi-
cle which are behind the driver. A warning
display in the exterior mirrors draws your
attention to vehicles detected in the moni-
tored area. If you then switch on the corre-
sponding turn signal to change lanes, you will
also receive an optical and audible collision
warning. If a risk of lateral collision is detec-
ted, corrective braking may help you avoid a collision. To support the course-correcting
brake application, Active Blind Spot Assist
also uses the forward-facing radar sensor sys-
tem.
Active Blind Spot Assist supports you from a
speed of approximately 20 mph (30 km/h).
For Active Blind Spot Assist to assist you
when driving, the radar sensor system must
be operational.
Important safety notes
Active Blind Spot Assist is only an aid. It may
fail to detect some vehicles and is no substi-
tute for attentive driving.
GWARNING
Active Blind Spot Assist does not react to:
Rvehicles overtaken too closely on the side,
placing them in the blind spot area
Rvehicles which approach with a large speed
differential and overtake your vehicle
