Problems with the engine
ProblemPossible causes/consequences andMSolutions
The engine does not
start. The starter motor
can be heard.RThere is a malfunction in the engine electronics.
RThere is a malfunction in the fuel supply.
Before attempting to start the engine again:
XTurn the Smartkey back to position 0in the ignition lock.
or
XPress the Start/Stop button repeatedly until all indicator lamps in
the instrument cluster go out.
XTry to start the engine again (Ypage 128). Avoid excessively long
and frequent attempts to start the engine as these will drain the
battery.
If the engine does not start after several attempts:
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.
The engine does not
start. You cannot hear
the starter motor.The on-board voltage is too low because the battery is too weak or
discharged.
XJump-start the vehicle (Ypage 294).
If the engine does not start despite attempts to jump-start it:
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.
The starter motor was exposed to a thermal load that was too high.
XAllow the starter motor to cool down for approximately two minutes.
XTry to start the engine again.
If the engine still does not start:
XConsult a qualified specialist workshop.
The engine is not running
smoothly and is misfir-
ing.There is a malfunction in the engine electronics or in a mechanical
component of the engine management system.
XOnly depress the accelerator pedal slightly.
Otherwise, non-combusted fuel may get into the catalytic converter
and damage it.
XHave the cause rectified immediately at a qualified specialist work-
shop.
The coolant temperature
gauge shows a value
above 248 ‡ (120 †).The coolant level is too low. The coolant is too hot and the engine is no
longer being cooled sufficiently.
XStop as soon as possible and allow the engine and the coolant to
cool down.
XCheck the coolant level (Ypage 276). Observe the warning notes
as you do so and add coolant if necessary.

Outside temperature display
You should pay special attention to road condi-
tion swhen temperatures are aroun dfreezing
point.

play indicates th etemperature measured and
does no trecord th eroad temperature.
The outside temperature display is in th emulti-
function display (
Ypage 198).
The multifunction display shows changes in th e
outside temperature wit h adelay.
Coolant temperature display

Let an overheate dengin ecool down before
opening th ehood. If there is afir ein th e
engin ecompartment, keep th ehoo dclosed

If the Auto. Mirror Foldingfunction is
switched on, the multifunction display shows
the vehicle's exterior mirror in orange.
XPress the abutton to save the setting.
If you have switched on the Auto. MirrorFoldingfunction and you fold in the exterior
mirrors by pressing button :, the exterior mir-
rors will not fold out automatically (
Ypage 104).
You can then only fold out the exterior mirrors
using button :.
Restoring the factory settings
XPress the=or; button on the steering
wheel to select the Sett.menu.

Factory Settingsubmenu.

If you have selected Yesand confirmed, the

For safety reasons, the Day Lights

XPress =or; on the steering wheel to
select the AMGmenu.
Upshift indicator: upshift indicatorUP=
indicates that the engine has reached the
overrevving range when in the manual drive
program.
Engine oil temperature: if the engine is at
normal operating temperature, the multifunc- tion display shows oil temperature ?in
white.
If the multifunction display shows oil temper-
ature ?in blue, the engine is not yet at nor-
mal operating temperature. Avoid driving at
full engine output during this time.
If the conditions for the ECO start/stop func-
tion are fulfilled and the vehicle is stationary,
the menu shows status indicator B.
