CAUTION
 ¾ When driving off -road in areas where there is grass or foliage, it is recommended that the
Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system be turned off .




¾ Always use tires for all wheels that are of the specifi ed size, and the same manufacturer,
brand, and tread pattern. In addition, do not use tires with signifi cantly diff erent wear
patterns on the same vehicle as the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system may not
operate normally.
 


¾ The laser sensor (front) includes a function for detecting a soiled windshield and informing
the driver, however, depending on the conditions, it may not detect plastic shopping bags,
ice or snow on the windshield. In such cases, the system cannot accurately determine a
vehicle ahead and may not be able to operate normally. Always drive carefully and pay
attention to the road ahead.

N O T E
 


y The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system will not operate if the driver is deliberately
performing driving operations (accelerator pedal and steering wheel).
 


y The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system will operate under the following conditions. 



y The engine is running.
y “Forward Smart City Brake Support Malfunction” is not displayed in the multi-
information display.
 


y The vehicle speed is between about 4 to 30 km/h (2 to 18 mph).



y The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system is not turned off.



y The DSC is not malfunctioning. 



y The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) detects a vehicle ahead by emitting a near-infrared
laser beam and receiving the beam reÀ ected off the reÀ ector of the vehicle ahead, and
then using it for the measurement. Consequently, the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS)
may not operate under the following conditions:
 


y ReÀ ection of the laser is poor due to the shape of the vehicle ahead.



y The vehicle ahead is signi¿ cantly dirty.



y Under bad weather condition, such as rain, fog and snow.



y The window washer is being used or the windshield wipers are not used when it's
raining.
 


y The windshield is dirty.



y The steering wheel is turned completely left or right, or the vehicle is accelerated
rapidly and comes close to the vehicle ahead.
 


y Trucks with low loading platforms and vehicles with an extremely low or high pro¿ le.



y Vehicles with certain shapes such as a vehicle carrier.

Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) *
Your vehicle is equipped with a Forward Sensing Camera (FSC). The Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC) is positioned near the rearview mirror and used by the following systems.
 


y High Beam Control System (HBC)



y Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)



y Smart Brake Support (SBS)

The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) determines the conditions ahead of the vehicle while
traveling at night and detects traf¿ c lanes. The distance in which the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC) can detect objects varies depending on the surrounding conditions.

¾ Do not apply accessories, stickers or fi lm to the windshield near the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC).
  If the area in front of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens is obstructed, it will cause
the system to not operate correctly. Consequently, each system may not operate normally
which could lead to an unexpected accident.
 


¾ Do not disassemble or modify the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
 Disassembly or modifi cation of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) will cause a malfunction
or mistaken operation. Consequently, each system may not operate normally which could
lead to an unexpected accident.
 


¾ Heed the following cautions to assure the correct operation of the Forward Sensing Camera
(FSC).
 


¾ The direction of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) has been fi nely adjusted, therefore
do not change the installation position or remove the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
 


¾ Be careful not to scratch the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens or allow it to get dirty.



¾ Do not remove the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cover.



¾ Do not place objects on the dashboard which refl ect light.



¾ Always keep the windshield glass around the camera clean by removing dirt or fogging.
Use the windshield defroster to remove fogging on the windshield.
 


¾ Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer regarding cleaning the interior side of the
windshield around the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
 


¾ Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer before performing repairs around the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC).
 


¾ The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is installed to the windshield. Consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer for windshield repair and replacement.
 


¾ When performing repairs around the rearview mirror, consult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer.
 


¾ Do not hit or apply strong force to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) or the area
around it. If strong force is applied, stop using the Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane
Departure Warning System (LDWS), the High Beam Control System (HBC), and the Smart
Brake Support (SBS) and consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
 


¾ The direction in which the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is pointed has been fi nely
adjusted. Do not change the installation position of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
or remove it. Otherwise, it could result in damage or malfunction.

y In the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot detect target objects
correctly, and each system may be unable to operate normally.
 


y The height of the vehicle ahead is low.



y You drive your vehicle at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.



y Headlights are not turned on during the night or when going through a tunnel. 



y In the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) may not be able to detect
target objects correctly.
 


y When driving next to walls with no patterning (including fences and longitudinally
striped walls).
 


y The taillights of the vehicle ahead are turned off.



y A vehicle is outside the illumination range of the headlights.



y The vehicle is making a sharp turn, or ascending or descending a steep slope.



y Entering or exiting a tunnel.



y Heavy luggage is loaded causing the vehicle to tilt.



y Strong light is shone at the front of the vehicle (back light or high-beam light from on-
coming vehicles).
 


y There are many light emitters on the vehicle ahead.



y When the vehicle ahead is not equipped with taillights or the taillights are turned off at
nighttime.
 y The vehicle ahead has a special shape. For example, a vehicle towing a trailer house
or a boat, or a vehicle carrier carrying a vehicle with its front pointed rearward.

because the rear view parking camera is equipped with a speci¿ c lens.




y Some optionally installed vehicle accessories may be picked up by the camera. Do not
install any optional parts that can interfere with the camera view, such as illuminating
parts or parts made of reÀ ective material.




y It may be dif¿ cult to see the display under the following conditions, however, it does not
indicate a malfunction.
 


y In darkened areas.



y When the temperature around the lens is high/low.



y When the camera is wet such as on a rainy day or during periods of high humidity.

y When the camera lens reÀ ects sunlight or headlight beams.

* “Keyless System Malfunction” is displayed
This message is displayed if the advanced keyless entry & push button start system has a
problem.
Contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
CAUTION
If the message is indicated, or the push button start indicator light (amber) fl ashes, the
engine may not start. If the engine cannot be started, try starting it using the emergency
operation for starting the engine, and have the vehicle inspected at an Authorized
Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
Refer to Emergency Operation for Starting the Engine on page 4-10 .
“Ignition is On” is displayed
This message is displayed when the driver's door is opened without switching the ignition
off.
“Key Not Detected” is displayed
This message is displayed when any of the following operations is performed with the key
out of the operational range or placed in areas inside the cabin where it is dif¿ cult for the
key to be detected.
y The push button start is pressed with the ignition switched off
y The ignition is switched on
y All doors are closed without switching the ignition off

* If any malfunction occurs in the keyless entry system, it illuminates continuously.
CAUTION
If the key warning indicator light illuminates or the push button start indicator light

at an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.

* This light illuminates if there is a malfunction in the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM). Have
your vehicle inspected by an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
N O T E
If the vehicle is driven on a road with less traf¿ c and few vehicles that the radar sensors can
detect, the system may pause. However, it does not indicate a malfunction.
