SRS Air Bags
Do not place luggage or other objects under the front seats:
Placing luggage or other objects under the front seats is dangerous. The components
essential to the supplemental restraint system could be damaged, and in the event of
a side collision, the appropriate air bags may not deploy, which could result in death
or serious injury. To prevent damage to the components essential to the supplemental
restraint system, do not place luggage or other objects under the front seats.

Do not operate a vehicle with damaged air bag/seat belt pretensioner system
components:
Expended or damaged air bag/seat belt pretensioner system components must be
replaced after any collision which caused them to deploy or damage them. Only a trained
Authorized Mazda Dealer can fully evaluate these systems to see that they will work in
any subsequent accident. Driving with an expended or damaged air bag or pretensioner
unit will not aff ord you the necessary protection in the event of any subsequent accident
which could result in serious injury or death.

Do not remove interior air bag parts:
Removing any components such as the front seats, front dashboard, the steering wheel
or parts on the front and rear window pillars and along the roof edge, containing air bag
parts or sensors is dangerous. These parts contain essential air bag components. The air
bag could accidentally activate and cause serious injuries. Always have an Authorized
Mazda Dealer remove these parts.

Properly dispose of the air bag system:
Improper disposal of an air bag or a vehicle with live air bags in it can be extremely
dangerous. Unless all safety procedures are followed, injury could result. Have an
Authorized Mazda Dealer safely dispose of the air bag system or scrap an air bag
equipped vehicle.

CAUTION
 


¾ To assure proper deployment of the front air bag and to prevent damage to the sensor in
the front seat cushion:
 


¾ Do not place sharp objects on the front seat cushion or leave heavy luggage on them.



¾ Do not spill any liquids on the front seats or under the front seats.




¾ To allow the sensors to function properly, always perform the following:




¾ Adjust the front seats as far back as possible and always sit upright against the
seatbacks with seat belts worn properly.
 


¾ If you place your child on the front passenger seat, secure the child-restraint system
properly and slide the front passenger seat as far back as possible (page 2-25 ).
NOTE
 


y The system requires about 10 seconds to alternate between turning the front passenger
front and side air bags and seat belt pretensioner system on or off.
 


y The front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light may turn on repeatedly if luggage
or other items are put on the front passenger seat, or if the temperature of the vehicle's
interior changes suddenly.
 


y The front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light may turn on for 10 seconds if the
electrostatic capacity on the front passenger seat changes.
 


y The air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system warning light might turn on if the front
passenger seat receives a severe impact.
 


y If the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light does not turn on after installing
a child-restraint system on the front passenger seat, fi rst, re-install your child-restraint
system according to the procedure in this owner's manual. Then, if the front passenger air
bag deactivation indicator light still does not turn on, install the child-restraint system on
the rear seat and consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
 


y If the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light turns on when an occupant
is seated directly in the front passenger seat, have the passenger re-adjust their posture
by sitting with their feet on the fl oor, and then re-fastening the seat belt. If the front
passenger air bag deactivation indicator light remains turned on, move the passenger to
the rear seat. If sitting in the rear seat is not possible, slide the front passenger seat as far
back as possible. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.

The timing in which the system switches the headlights changes under the\
following
conditions. If the system does not switch the headlights appropriately, manually switch
between high and low beams according to the visibility as well as road and traffi c
conditions.
 y When there are sources of light in the area such as street lamps, illuminated signboards,
and traffi c signals.

y When there are refl ective objects in the surrounding area such as refl ective plates and
signs.

y  When visibility is reduced under rain, snow and foggy conditions.
y When driving on roads with sharp turn or hilly terrain.
y When the headlights/rear lamps of vehicles in front of you or in the opposite lane are dim
or not illuminated.

y When there is suffi cient darkness such as at dawn or dusk.
y When the luggage compartment is loaded with heavy objects or the rear passenger seats
are occupied.

y When visibility is reduced due to a vehicle in front of you spraying water from its tires
onto your windshield.

radar sensor (front) may not be able to
detect vehicles ahead or obstructions
correctly and each system may not
operate normally.
 


y The rear surface of a vehicle
ahead does not refl ect radio waves
effectively, such as an unloaded
trailer or an automobile with a
loading platform covered by a soft
top, vehicles with a hard plastic
tailgate, and round-shaped vehicles.
 


y Vehicles ahead with low vehicle
height and thus less area for
refl ecting radio waves.




y Visibility is reduced due to a vehicle
ahead casting off water, snow, or
sand from its tires and onto your
windshield.
 


y The luggage compartment is loaded
with heavy objects or the rear
passenger seats are occupied.
 


y Ice, snow, or soiling is on the front
surface of the front emblem.
 


y During inclement weather such as
rain, snow, or sand storms.
 


y When driving near facilities or
objects emitting strong radio waves.
 


y Under the following conditions, the
radar sensor (front) may not be able to
detect vehicles ahead or obstructions.
 


y The beginning and end of a curve.



y Roads with continuous curves.



y Narrow lane roads due to road
construction or lane closures.
 


y The vehicle ahead enters the radar
sensor's blind spot.
 


y The vehicle ahead is running
abnormally due to accident or
vehicle damage.
 


y Roads with repeated up and down
slopes
 


y Driving on poor roads or unpaved
roads.
 


y The distance between your vehicle
and the vehicle ahead is extremely
short.
 


y A vehicle suddenly comes close such
as by cutting into the lane.
 


y To prevent incorrect operation of the
system, use tires of the same specifi ed
size, manufacturer, brand, and tread
pattern on all four wheels. In addition,
do not use tires with signifi cantly
different wear patterns or tire pressures
on the same vehicle (Including the
temporary spare tire).
 


y If the battery power is weak, the system
may not operate correctly.
 


y When driving on roads with little
traffi c and few vehicles ahead or
obstructions for the radar sensor to
detect, Smart Brake Support/Smart City
Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) Warning
Light (amber) temporarily illuminates,
however, this does not indicate a
problem.

Cleaning the Upholstery and
Interior Trim
Vinyl
Remove dust and loose dirt from vinyl
with a whisk broom or vacuum cleaner.
Clean vinyl with a leather-and-vinyl
cleaner.
Leather
*
Remove dust and sand fi rst using a
vacuum cleaner or other means, then wipe
dirt off using a soft cloth with a leather
cleaner or a soft cloth soaked in mild soap.
Wipe off the remaining cleaner or soap
using a cloth soaked in clean water and
wrung out well.
Remove moisture with a dry, soft cloth
and allow the leather to further dry in a
well-ventilated, shaded area. If the leather
gets wet such as from rain, also remove
moisture and dry it as soon as possible.
NOTE
 


y Because genuine leather is a natural
material, its surface is not uniform and
it may have natural scars, scratches,
and wrinkles.
 


y To maintain the quality for as long as
possible, periodical maintenance, about
twice a year, is recommended.
 


y Sand and dust on the seat surface may
damage the overcoat of the genuine
leather surfaces and accelerate wear.
 


y Greasy soiling on genuine leather may
cause molding and stains.
 


y Rubbing hard with a stiff brush or cloth
may cause damage.
 


y Do not wipe the leather using alcohol,
chlorine bleach, or organic solvents
such as thinner, benzene, or gasoline.
Otherwise, it may cause discoloration
or stains.
 


y If the seats get wet, promptly remove
moisture with a dry cloth. Remaining
moisture on the surface may cause
deterioration such as hardening and
shrinkage.
 


y Exposure to direct sunlight for long
periods may cause deterioration and
shrinkage. When parking the car under
direct sunlight for long periods, shade
the interior using sunshades.
 


y Do not leave vinyl products on the seats
for long periods as they may affect
the leather quality and coloring. If the
cabin temperature becomes hot, the
vinyl may deteriorate and adhere to the
genuine leather.
Fabric and Synthetic Leather
Allowing the material to remain dirty
makes it hard to clean later and may cause
stains or discoloration. Clean as soon as
possible.
Fabric
1. Clean the soiled area by lightly dabbing
it with a soft cloth soaked in a mild
detergent (approx. 5%) diluted with
water.
2. Wipe off the remaining detergent using
a cloth soaked in clean water and
wrung out well.
CAUTION
Use only recommended cleaners
and procedures. Others may aff ect
appearance and fi re-resistance.
