When installing a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.●
Do not allow children to play with the seat belt. If the seat belt becomes twisted
around a child’s neck, it may lead to chokin g or other serious injuries that could result
in death.
If this occurs and the buckle cannot be unfa stened, scissors should be used to cut the
belt. ●
Ensure that the belt and plate are securely locked and the seat belt is not twisted. ●
Shake the child restraint system left and right, and forward and backward to ensure
that it has been securely installed. ●
After securing a child restraint system, never adjust the seat. ●
When a booster seat is installed, always en sure that the shoulder belt is positioned
across the center of the child’s shoulder. The belt should be kept away from the child’s
neck, but not so that it could fall off the child’s shoulder. ●
Follow all installation instructions provided by the child restraint system manufacturer.●
When securing some types of child restraint systems in rear seats, it may not be possi-
ble to properly use the seat belts in positi ons next to the child restraint without inter-
fering with it or affecting se at belt effectiveness. Be sure your seat belt fits snugly
across your shoulder and low on your hips. If it does not, or if it interferes with the child
restraint, move to a different position. Failur e to do so may result in death or serious
injury. ●
When installing a child restraint system in the rear center seat, adjust both seat cush-
ions to the same position an d align both seatbacks at th e same angle. The seatbacks
must be adjusted to the sa me angle. Otherwise, the child restraint system cannot be
securely restrained and this may cause death or serious injuries in the event of sudden
braking, sudden swerving or an accident. ■
When installing a booster seat
To prevent the belt from going into ALR lock mode, do not fully extend the shoulder
belt. ALR mode causes the belt to tighten on ly. This could cause injury or discomfort to
the child. ( P. 3 4 )■
Do not use a seat belt extender
If a seat belt extender is used when instal ling a child restraint system, the seat belt will
not securely hold the child restraint system, which could cause death or serious injury
to the child or other passengers in the event of sudden braking, sudden swerving or an
accident.

To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door open ing and an occupant falling out, resulting in
death or serious injury. ●
Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked. ●
Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even if the
inside lock buttons ar e in locked position.●
Set the rear door child-protector locks wh en children are seated in the rear seats.■
When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehicle is on an incline,
whether there is enough space for a door to open and whether a strong wind is blow-
ing. When opening or closing the door, hold the door handle tightly to prepare for any
unpredictable movement.

When folding down the rear seatbacks and when the rear seatbacks are folded
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.●
Do not fold down the rear seatbacks while driving. ●
Stop the vehicle on level ground, apply the parking brake and shift the shift lever to P.●
Do not allow anyone to sit on a folded re ar seatback or in th e luggage compartment
while driving. ●
Do not allow children to enter the luggage compartment. ■
When operating the rear seatback
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.●
Keep other passengers from being hit by the rear seatback. ●
Do not put your hands between the seats or near the moving parts, or let any part of
your body get caught. ●
Power seat: Do not let children operate the rear seatback. Other passengers may get
caught in the seat. ●
Power seat: Check that there are no passengers sitting in a seat before folding it
down. Do not let passengers sit in the seat while it is being folded down.■
Seat adjustment
To reduce the risk of sliding under the lap belt during a co llision, do not recline the seat
more than necessary.
If the seat is reclined excessively, the lap be lt may slide past the hips and apply restraint
forces directly to the abdomen, or your ne ck may contact the shoulder belt, increasing
the risk of death or serious inju ry in the event of an accident.
Adjustments should not be ma de while driving as the seat may unexpectedly move and
cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. ■
After returning the rear seatback to the upright position
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.●
Make sure that the rear seatback is secure ly locked in position by lightly pushing it
back and forth. ●
Check that the seat belts are not twisted or caught between or behind in the rear
seatback.
