Noise and smoke
When inflated, the air bags make a
loud noise and leave smoke and
powder in the air inside the vehicle.
This is normal and is a result of the
ignition of the air bag inflator. After
the air bag inflates, you may feel sub-
stantial discomfort in breathing due
to the contact of your chest with both
the seat belt and the air bag, as well
as from breathing the smoke and
powder.Open your doors and/or
windows as soon as possible after
impact in order to reduce discom-
fort and prevent prolonged expo-
sure to the smoke and powder.
Though smoke and powder are non-
toxic, it may cause irritation to the
skin (eyes, nose and throat, etc). If
this is the case, wash and rinse with
cold water immediately and consult a
doctor if the symptom persists.WARNING
To avoid severe personal injury or death caused by
deploying air bags in a colli-
sion, the driver should sit as
far back from the steering
wheel air bag. The front pas-
sengers should always move
their seats as far back as pos-
sible and sit back in their seat.
Air bags inflate instantly in the event of a collision, and pas-
sengers may be injured by the
air bag expansion force if they
are not in a proper position.
Air bag inflation may cause injuries including facial or
bodily abrasions, injuries
from broken glasses or burns.
WARNING
When the air bags deploy, the
air bag related parts in the
steering wheel and/or instru-
ment panel and/or in both sides
of the roof rails above the front
and rear doors are very hot. To
prevent injury, do not touch the
air bag storage area’s internal
components immediately after
an air bag has inflated.

If your vehicle is equipped with a
sunroof, you can slide or tilt your
sunroof with the sunroof control lever
located on the overhead console (1).
The sunroof can only be opened,
closed, or tilted when the ignition
switch is in the ON position.
✽ ✽
NOTICE
• In cold and wet climates, the sun-
roof may not work properly due to
freezing conditions.
• After a vehicle is washed or in a rainstorm be sure to wipe off any
water that is on the sunroof before
operating it.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
The sunroof cannot tilt when it is in
the slide position but can be slid
while in a tilt position.
PANORAMIC SUNROOF (IF EQUIPPED)
CAUTION
Do not continue to pull or push
the sunroof control lever afterthe sunroof is fully opened, closed, or tilted. Damage to themotor or system componentscould occur.
WARNING
Never adjust the sunroof or roller blind while driving. This
could result in loss of control
and an accident that may
cause death, serious injury, or
property damage.
If you would like to carry items on the roof rack using a cross
bar, do not operate the sunroof.
When carrying cargo on the roof rack, do not load heavy
items above the sunroof or
glass roof.
All occupants of the vehicle must wear their seat belts at
all times. Seat belts and child
restraints reduce serious or
fatal injuries for all occupants
in the event of a collision or
sudden stop.

Outside rearview mirror
Be sure to adjust the mirror angles
before driving.
Your vehicle is equipped with both
left-hand and right-hand outside
rearview mirrors. The mirrors can be
adjusted remotely with the remote
switch. The mirror heads can be fold-
ed back to prevent damage during an
automatic vehicle wash or when
passing through a narrow street.WARNING - Rearview
mirrors
The right outside rearview mirror is convex. Objects seen
in the mirror are closer than
they appear.
Use your interior rearview mirror or direct observation to
determine the actual distance
of following vehicles when
changing lanes.
CAUTION
Do not scrape ice off the mirrorface; this may damage the sur-face of the glass. If ice shouldrestrict the movement of the mir-ror, do not force the mirror foradjustment. To remove ice, use adeicer spray, or a sponge or softcloth with very warm water.
CAUTION
If the mirror is jammed with ice,do not adjust the mirror by force.Use an approved spray de-icer(not radiator antifreeze) torelease the frozen mechanism ormove the vehicle to a warmplace and allow the ice to melt.
WARNING
Do not adjust or fold the outside
rearview mirrors while the vehi-
cle is moving. This could result in
loss of control, and an accident
which could cause death, seri-
ous injury or property damage.

Windshield wipersWhen the wiper blade is not in a nor-
mal position, place the ignition switch
in the ON position. The wiper blade
will return to the normal position.
Following are cases a wiper blade
may be in an abnormal position.
- The wiper blade may be positioned
abnormally when in an automatic
vehicle wash. (Ignition switch in the
OFF position)
- The wiper blade may be positioned abnormally when moved by force.
- The passenger's side wiper is on top of the driver's side wiper.
(Normal position : The driver's side
wiper must be on top of the pas-
senger's side wiper.)CAUTION
When washing the vehicle, setthe wiper switch in the OFF (O)position to stop the auto wiperoperation.
The wiper may operate and bedamaged if the switch is set inthe AUTO mode while washingthe vehicle.
Do not remove the sensor coverlocated on the upper end of thepassenger side windshieldglass. Damage to system partscould occur and may not be cov-ered by your vehicle warranty.

Features of your vehicle
When there is a problem with the
motor to operate the wiper blades,
the wiper blades will stop and acti-
vate the Fail Safety Function in the
ignition switch ON position or while
driving. Fail Safety Function will
operate as follows:
- HI or Mode 2 (5 minutes) →LO or
Mode 1 (5 minutes) →INT or Mode
--- (5 minutes) → OFF or O (Stop)CAUTION
If wipers do not return to normal
position, you should remove thewax, water repellent, oil and otherdebris into windshield and thencheck wiper operation again.
CAUTION
After remove the overload con-dition, if the problem of wiperblades or operating the motorremains, have the system bechecked by an authorized Kiadealer.
❈ ❈ Overload condition
- In a rainy day when driving through a long tunnel
- When wax car wash - Water-repellent coating (coated glass)
- Cleaning the windshield cleaners
- Excessive blade wear etc.

In a rainy day if the windshield glass
gets dry when driving through a long
tunnel, the wiping velocity may
reduce to protect the motor and
blade. It will return to its normal state,
after passing through the tunnel.
In case of overload the wiper motor
that the function adjusts speed auto-
matically in vehicle. This feature pre-
vents damage to the wiper motor and
blade. In case of removal overload
conditions, it will return to its normal
position. By the pressure of the wind
at high speed wiper blades can be
moved upwards. This prevents dam-
age due to wiper motor overload by
the pressure of the wind.
Operating the wiper blade and wiper
switch operates normally, it will
return to its normal position. When the operation of the passen-
ger’s side wiper blade is limited by
accumulated snow on the cowl top
cover, operating angle of the driver’s
side wiper blade will be reduced to
avoid collision between the wiper
blades. Operating under a reduced
angle, the driver's side blade stop
position will be different.✽ ✽
NOTICE
If you do not remove the snow
and/or ice before using the wiper
and washer, it may damage the
wiper and washer system.
