Safety features of your vehicle
There is a child restraint symbol
located on the lower portion of each
side of the rear seatbacks. Thesesymbols indicate the position of the
lower anchors for child restraints soequipped. On each side of the rear seat,
between the cushion and backrest,are located a pair of ISOFIX anchor-age points together with a top tethermounting on the shelf behind the
rear seats.During the installation, the seat has
to be engaged at the anchorage-
points in a way you can hear it click-
ing (check by pulling!) and has to be
fixed with the Top Tether-anchor onthe belonging point on the shelf
behind rear seats. The installing and the use of a child- seat has to be done according to the
installing-manual, which is added tothe ISOFIX-seat.WARNING
Install the child restraint seat
fully rearward against the seat-
back with the seatback in a ver-
tical position, not reclined.
WARNING
When using the vehicle's "ISOFIX" system to install a
child restraint system in the
rear seat, all unused vehicle
rear seat belt metal latch
plates or tabs must be latched
securely in their seat belt
buckles and the seat belt web-
bing must be retracted behind
the child restraint to prevent
the child from reaching andtaking hold of unretracted
seat belts. Unlatched metal
latch plates or tabs may allow
the child to reach the unre-
tracted seat belts which mayresult in strangulation and a
serious injury or death to the
child in the child restraint.
Do not place anything around the lower anchors. Also makesure that the seat belt is not
caught in the lower anchors.

Air bag inflation conditions
Front air bags
Front air bags are designed to inflate in a frontal collision depending on
the intensity, speed or angles ofimpact of the front collision.

Problems may arise if the sen-
sor installation angles are
changed due to the deforma-
tion of the front bumper, body,
front door or C pillar where
the collision sensors are
installed. We recommend that
the system be serviced by an
authorized Kia dealer.
Your vehicle has been designed to absorb impact
and deploy the air bag(s) in
certain collisions. Installing
aftermarket bumper guards or
replacing a bumper with non-
genuine parts may adversely
affect your vehicles collision
and air bag deployment per-
formance.WARNING
Do not hit or allow any objects to impact the locations where
air bags or sensors areinstalled.
This may cause unexpected
air bag deployment, whichcould result in serious per-
sonal injury or death.
If the installation location or angle of the sensors is altered
in any way, the air bags may
deploy when they should not
or they may not deploy when
they should, causing severe
injury or death.
Therefore, do not try to per-
form maintenance on or
around the air bag sensors.
We recommend that the sys-
tem be serviced by an author-
ized Kia dealer.

Trunk unlock (3)
Non-powered trunk.
1. Press the trunk unlock button formore than 1 second.
2. The hazard warning light will blink twice to indicate that the trunk is
unlocked.
✽✽ NOTICE
 After unlocking the trunk, the trunk will lock automatically unless
it is opened within 30 seconds.
 Once the trunk is opened and then closed, the trunk will lock auto-
matically.
 The word "HOLD" is written on the button to inform you that you
must press and hold the button.
Power trunk
1. Press the trunk unlock button for more than 1 second.
2. The hazard warning light will blink and chime will sound twice to indi-
cate the trunk is unlocked andopened.

 Once the trunk is opened and then closed, the trunk will lock auto-
matically.
 The word "HOLD" is written on the button to inform you that you
must press and hold the button.
Restrictions in handling keys
When leaving keys with parking lot
and valet attendants, the following
procedures will ensure that your
vehicle’s trunk and glove box com-
partment can not be opened in your
absence.
To activate the trunk lock system so
that the trunk can only be opened
with the mechanical key, perform the
following:
1. Press and hold the release button and remove the mechanical key
from the smart key.

Anti-lock Brake System(ABS) Warning Light
This warning light illuminates:
Once you set the Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position.
- It illuminates for approximately 3seconds and then goes off.
When there is a malfunction with the ABS (The normal braking sys-
tem will still be operational without
the assistance of the anti-lock
brake system).
In this case, we recommend that
you have the vehicle inspected by

Electronic
Brake force Distribution(EBD) System Warning Light
These two warning lights illuminate at
the same time while driving:

Driving the vehicle with a warn-
ing light ON is dangerous. If the

level is low.

dealer.

Non-operational conditions of parking assist system
Parking assist system may not
operate normally when:
1. Moisture is frozen to the sensor. (It will operate normally when mois-
ture melts.)
2. Sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as snow or water, or
the sensor cover is blocked. (It will
operate normally when the materi-
al is removed or the sensor is no
longer blocked.)
3. Sensor is stained with foreign mat- ter such as snow or water.
(Sensing range will return to nor-
mal when removed.)
4.The parking assist button is off.
There is a possibility of parking assist system malfunction when:
1. Driving on uneven road surfaces such as unpaved roads, gravel,
bumps, or gradient.
2. Objects generating excessive noise such as vehicle horns, loud motor-
cycle engines, or truck air brakes
can interfere with the sensor.
3. Heavy rain or water spray.
4. Wireless transmitters or mobile phones present near the sensor.
5. Sensor is covered with snow.
Detecting range may decrease when:
1. Outside air temperature is extremely hot or cold.
2. Undetectable objects smaller than 1 m and narrower than 14 cm in
diameter.
The following objects may not be
recognized by the sensor:
1. Sharp or slim objects such as ropes, chains or small poles.
2. Objects, which tend to absorb sen- sor frequency such as clothes,
spongy material or snow.

Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
The ABS continuously senses the
speed of the wheels. If the wheels
are going to lock, the ABS system
repeatedly modulates the hydraulic
brake pressure to the wheels.
When you apply your brakes under
conditions which may lock the wheels,
you may hear a “tik-tik’’ sound from the
brakes, or feel a corresponding sensa-
tion in the brake pedal. This is normal
and it means your ABS is active.
In order to obtain the maximum ben-
efit from your ABS in an emergencysituation, do not attempt to modulate
your brake pressure and do not try to
pump your brakes.Press your brake pedal as hard as
possible or as hard as the situation
warrants and allow the ABS to con-
trol the force being delivered to the
brakes.

NOTICE
A click sound may be heard in the
engine compartment when the vehi-
cle begins to move after the engine is
started. These conditions are normal
and indicate that the anti-lock brake
system is functioning properly.
Even with the anti-lock brake sys- tem, your vehicle still requires suf-
ficient stopping distance. Always
maintain a safe distance from the
vehicle in front of you.
Always slow down when cornering. The anti-lock brake system cannot
prevent accidents resulting from
excessive speeds.
On loose or uneven road surfaces, operation of the anti-lock brake sys-
tem may result in a longer stopping
distance than for vehicles equipped
with a conventional brake system.

On roads where the road sur-face is pitted or has different surface height.
The safety features of an ABS
(or ESC) equipped vehicle
should not be tested by high
speed driving or cornering. This
could endanger the safety of
yourself or others.
WARNING
ABS (or ESC) will not prevent
accidents due to improper or
dangerous driving maneuvers.
Even though vehicle control is
improved during emergency
braking, always maintain a safe
distance between you and
objects ahead. Vehicle speeds
should always be reduced dur-
ing extreme road conditions.
The braking distance for cars
equipped with an anti-lock brak-
ing system (or Electronic
Stability Control system) may be
longer than for those without it
in the following road conditions. During these conditions the
vehicle should be driven atreduced speeds:
Rough, gravel or snow-cov- ered roads.
With tire chains installed.

When you jump start your vehicle
because of a drained battery, the
engine may not run as smoothly and
the ABS warning light may turn on at
the same time. This happens because
of the low battery voltage. It does not
mean your ABS is malfunctioning.
 Do not pump your brakes!
 Have the battery recharged before driving the vehicle.

CAUTION
If the ABS warning light is on
and stays on, you may have aproblem with the ABS. In thiscase, however, your regularbrakes will work normally.
The ABS warning light will stay on for approximately 3 secondsafter the Engine Start/Stop but-ton is ON. During that time, theABS will go through self-diag- nosis and the light will go off ifeverything is normal. If the lightstays on, you may have a prob- lem with your ABS. We recom-mend that you contact anauthorized Kia dealer.
CAUTION
When you drive on a road hav- ing poor traction, such as anicy road, and operate yourbrakes continuously, the ABSwill be active continuously and the ABS warning light may illu-minate. Pull your car over to asafe place and stop the engine.
Restart the engine. If the ABS warning light is off, then yourABS system is normal.Otherwise, you may have aproblem with the ABS. We rec-ommend that you contact an authorized Kia dealer.
