NOTICE
If you are not able to pull out the
seat belt from the retractor, firmly
pull the belt out and release it. Then
you will be able to pull the belt out
smoothly.
WARNING - Cargo loading
Make sure the engine is off, the
automatic transaxle is in P
(Park) or the manual transaxle
is in R (Reverse) or 1st, and the
parking brake is securely
applied whenever loading or
unloading cargo. Failure to take
these steps may allow the vehi-
cle to move if the shift lever is
inadvertently moved to another
position.
WARNING - Cargo
Cargo should always be
secured to prevent it from being
thrown about the vehicle in a
collision and causing injury to
the vehicle occupants. Special
care of objects should be taken
when placing them in the rear
seats, since those may hit the
front seat occupants in a frontal
collision.
CAUTION - Rear seat
belts
When returning the rear seat- backs to the upright position,remember to return the rearshoulder belts to their properposition.
WARNING - Uprighting
seat
When you return the seatback
to its upright position, hold the
seatback and return it slowly. If
the seatback is returned with-
out holding it, the back of the
seat could spring forward
resulting in injury caused by
being struck by the seatback.
WARNING
When you return the rear seat-
back to its upright position after
being folded down:
Be careful not to damage the
seat belt webbing or buckle. Do
not allow the seat belt webbing
or buckle to get caught or
pinched in the rear seat. Ensure
that the seatback is completely
locked into its upright position
by pushing on the top of the
seatback. Otherwise, in an acci-
dent or sudden stop, the seat
could fold down and allow
cargo to enter the passenger
compartment, which could
result in serious injury or death.

Closing the hood
1. Before closing the hood, check thefollowing:

3. Lower the hood until it is about 1 ft. (30 cm) above the closed position
and let it drop. Make sure that it

with an obstruction present in
the hood opening may result
in property damage or severe
personal injury.
Do not leave gloves, rags or any other combustible materi-
al in the engine compartment.
Doing so may cause a heat-
induced fire.
Always double check to be sure that the hood is firmly
latched before driving away. If
it is not latched, the hood
could open while the vehicle
is being driven, causing a
total loss of visibility, which
might result in an accident.
Do not move the vehicle with the hood in the raised position,
as vision is obstructed and the
hood could fall or be damaged.

If there is heavy accumulation of
snow or ice on the windshield,
defrost the windshield for about 10
minutes, or until the snow and/or ice
is removed before using the wind-
shield wipers to ensure proper oper-
ation.
✽ ✽NOTICE
• When you operate the wipers, if
your vehicle has a problem in any
part of the wiper operation sys-
tem, the wiper may operate in the
LO mode regardless of the wiper
switch position. In this case, have
your vehicle checked by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer as
soon as possible.
• When the ignition key is removed, the wiper blade sometimes may
move slightly for reducing the
deterioration of the windshield
wipers.
Windshield washers
In the OFF position, pull the lever
gently toward you to spray washer
fluid on the windshield and to run the
wipers 1-3 cycles.
Use this function when the wind-
shield is dirty.
The spray and wiper operation will
continue until you release the lever.
If the washer does not work, check
the washer fluid level. If the fluid level
is not sufficient, you will need to add
appropriate non-abrasive windshield
washer fluid to the washer reservoir. The reservoir filler neck is located in
the front of the engine compartment
on the passenger side.

CAUTION
To prevent possible damage to
the washer pump, do not oper-ate the washer when the fluidreservoir is empty.
WARNING
Do not use the washer in freez-
ing temperatures without first
warming the windshield with
the defrosters; the washer solu-
tion could freeze on the wind-
shield and obscure your vision.

A click sound may be heard in the
engine compartment when the vehi-
cle begins to move after the engine is
started. These conditions are normal
and indicate that the anti-lock brake
system is functioning properly.
Even with the anti-lock brake sys-
tem, your vehicle still requires suf-
ficient stopping distance. Always
maintain a safe distance from the
vehicle in front of you.
Always slow down when cornering. The anti-lock brake system cannot
prevent accidents resulting from
excessive speeds.
On loose or uneven road surfaces, operation of the anti-lock brake
system may result in a longer stop-
ping distance than for vehicles
equipped with a conventional
brake system.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
When you jump start your vehicle
because of a drained battery, the
engine may not run as smoothly and
the ABS warning light may turn on at
the same time. This happens because
of the low battery voltage. It does not
mean your ABS is malfunctioning.
• Do not pump your brakes!
• Have the battery recharged before
driving the vehicle.

CAUTION
If the ABS warning light is on
and stays on, there may be amalfunction of the ABS. In thiscase, your regular servicebrakes will work normally.
The ABS warning light will stay on for approximately 3 secondsafter the ignition switch is ON.During that time, the ABS willgo through self-diagnosis andthe light will go off if everythingis normal. If the light stays on,there may be a malfunctionwith the ABS. Contact anauthorized HYUNDAI dealer assoon as possible.
CAUTION
When you drive on a road with
poor traction, such as an icyroad, and operate your brakescontinuously, the ABS will beactive continuously and theABS warning light may illumi-nate. Pull your car over to asafe place and stop the engine.
Restart the engine. If the ABS warning light is off, then yourABS system is normal.Otherwise, there may be a mal-function with the ABS. Contactan authorized HYUNDAI dealeras soon as possible.
