•There are even circumstances
under which contact with the steer
ing wheel air bag can cause fatal
injuries, especially if the occupant is
positioned excessively close to the
steering wheel.
Noise and smoke
When the air bags inflate, they make
a loud noise and they leave smoke
and powder in the air inside of the
vehicle. This is normal and is a result
of the ignition of the air bag inflator.
After the air bag inflates, you may
feel substantial discomfort in breath
ing due to the contact of your chest
with both the seat belt and the air
bag, as well as from breathing the
smoke and powder.
Open your doors
and/or windows as soon as possible
after impact in order to reduce dis
comfort and prevent prolonged expo
sure to the smoke and powder.
Though smoke and powder are non
toxic, it may cause irritation to the
skin (eyes, nose and throat, etc.). If
this is the case, wash and rinse with
cold water immediately and consult
with the doctor if the symptom per
sists.
•To avoid severe personal injury
or death caused by deploying air
bags in a collision, the driver
should sit as far back from the
steering wheel air bag as possi
ble. The front passenger should
always move their seat as far
back as possible and sit back in
their seat.
•Air bag inflates instantly in an
event of a collision, passengers
may be injured by the air bag
expansion force if they are not in
a proper position.
•Air bag inflation may cause
injuries including facial or bodily
abrasions, injuries from broken
glasses or burns.
When the air bags deploy, the air
bag related parts in the steering
wheel and/or instrument panel
and/or in both sides of the roof
rails above the front and rear
doors are very hot. To prevent
injury, do not touch the air bag
storage areas internal compo
nents immediately after an air bag
has inflated.

Curtain air bag (if equipped)
The actual air bags in the vehicle may differ
from the illustration.
Curtain air bags are located along
both sides of the roof rails above the
front and rear doors.

or prevent the effectiveness of

•Do not install any accessories

•Do not place any objects over
the air bag or between the air
bag and yourself.
•Do not place any objects (an
umbrella, bag, etc.) between the
front door and the front seat. Such
objects may become dangerous
projectiles and cause injury if the
supplemental side impact air bag
inflates.
•To prevent unexpected deploy
ment of the side impact air bag
that may result in personal injury,
avoid impact to the side impact
sensor whenthe ignition switch
is on.

SRS Care
The SRS is virtually maintenance
free and so there are no parts you
can safely service by yourself. If the
SRS air bag warning light does not
illuminate, or continuously remains
on, we recommend that the system
be inspected by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
We recommend that the any work on
the SRS system, such as removing,
installing, repairing, or any work on
the steering wheel, the front passen
ger's panel, front seats and roof rails
be performed by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer. Improper handling
of the SRS system may result in seri
ous personal injury.

mend that the system be replaced
by an authorized HYUNDAI deal
er.
•Do not tamper with or discon
nect SRS wiring, or other com
ponents of the SRS system.Doing so could result in injury,
due to accidental inflation of the
air bags or by rendering the
SRS inoperative.
•If components of the air bag sys
tem must be discarded, or if the
vehicle must be scrapped, certainsafety precautions must be
observed. An authorized
HYUNDAI dealer knows these
precautions and can give you
the necessary information.Failure to follow these precau
tions and procedures could
increase the risk of personal
injury.
•If your car was flooded and has
soaked carpeting or water on
the flooring, you shouldn't try tostart the engine; we recommend
that you contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
•Modification to SRS compo
nents or wiring, including the
addition of any kind of badges to
the pad covers or modifications
to the body structure, can
adversely affect SRS perform
ance and lead to possible injury.
•For cleaning the air bag pad
covers, use only a soft, dry cloth
or one which has been mois
tened with plain water. Solvents
or cleaners could adversely
affect the air bag covers and
proper deployment of the sys
tem.
•No objects should be placed
over or near the air bag modules
on the steering wheel, instru
ment panel, and the front pas
senger's panel above the glove
box, because any such object
could cause harm if the vehicle
is in a crash severe enough to
cause the air bags to inflate.

Roof rack (if equipped)
If the vehicle has a roof rack, you can
load cargo on top of your vehicle.
Information
If the vehicle is equipped with a sun
roof, be sure not to position cargo onto
the roof rack in such a way that it
could interfere with sunroof operation.
•When carrying cargo on the roof
rack, take the necessary precau
tions to make sure the cargo does
not damage the roof of the vehicle.
•When carrying large objects on the
roof rack, make sure they do not
exceed the overall roof length or
width.

Distribute the load as evenly as

be higher when items are loaded
onto the roof rack. Avoid sudden
starts, braking, sharp turns, abrupt
manoeuvres or high speeds that
may result in loss of vehicle control
or rollover resulting in an accident.
•Always drive slowly and turn cor
ners carefully when carrying items
on the roof rack. Severe wind
updrafts, caused by passing vehi
cles or natural causes, can cause
sudden upward pressure on items
loaded on the roof rack. This is
especially true when carrying
large, flat items such as wood pan
els or mattresses. This could
cause the items to fall off the roof
rack and cause damage to your
vehicle or others around you.
•To prevent damage or loss of
cargo whilst driving, check fre
quently before or whilst driving to
make sure the items on the roof
rack are securely fastened.

Antenna
Roof antenna
Ty p e A Your car uses a roof antenna to
receive both AM and FM broadcast
signals. This antenna is a removable
type. To remove the antenna pole,
turn it counterclockwise.
To install the antenna pole, turn it
clockwise. Type B (if equipped) Along with AM and FM broadcast sig-
nals, the shark fin antenna will receive
the transmit data.

• Before entering a place with a
low height clearance, be sure
that the antenna is removed.
• Be sure to remove the antenna before washing the vehicle in an
automatic car wash or it may be
damaged.

it is important that it is fully tight- ened and adjusted to the upright
position to ensure proper recep-
tion. But it could be removed
when parking the vehicle.
Installation of aftermarket antenna
may result in water leakage, wind
noise, rattling & improper radio

the antenna available with an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer. Information
Some models do not have audio (plas-
tic blanking cover) system, and will
not supply radio main cable. Thus if
you want to insert Aftermarket audio
or OEM audio to listen radio broad-
