Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge indicates the approx-
imate amount of fuel remaining in the
fuel tank.
The fuel tank capacity is
given in section 8.
The fuel gauge is
supplemented by a low fuel warning
light, which will illuminate when the
fuel tank is near empty. On inclines or curves, the fuel gauge
pointer may fluctuate or the low fuel
warning light may come on earlier
than usual due to the movement of
fuel in the tank.

WARNING- Fuel gauge
Running out of fuel can expose
vehicle occupants to danger.
You must stop and obtain addi-
tional fuel as soon as possible
after the warning light comes
on or when the gauge indicator
comes close to the E level.
CAUTION
Avoid driving with a very low fuel level. If you run out of fuel, itcould cause the engine to mis-fire and result in excessive load-ing of the catalytic converter.

When the smart key is in the vehi-cle, if the engine start/stop button
is turned to the ON position, the
indicator will illuminate until the
engine is started. However, when
the smart key is not in the vehicle,
if the engine start/stop button is
depressed, the indicator will blink
for a few minutes to indicate that
you will not be able to start the
engine.
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and the indica-
tor turns off after 2 seconds, the
system may have a problem. Have
the vehicle checked by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer.
When the battery is weak, if the engine start/stop button is
depressed, the indicator will blink
and you will not be able to start the
engine. However, you may still be
able to start the engine by inserting
the smart key in the smart key
holder. If smart key system related
parts have a problem, the indicator
blinks.Low fuel level warning
light
This warning light indicates the fuel
tank is nearly empty. When it comes
on, you should add fuel as soon as
possible. Driving with the fuel level
warning light on or with the fuel level
below “E” can cause the engine to
misfire and damage the catalytic
converter.
Engine coolant tempera-ture warning light
The warning light shows the temper-
ature of the engine coolant when the
ignition switch is ON.
The warning light illuminates if the
temperature of the engine coolant is
above 248±5.5°F (120±3°C).
Do not continue driving with an over-
heated engine. If your vehicle over-
heats, refer to “Overheating” in the
section 6.

If the engine coolant temperature
warning light illuminates, it indi-
cates overheating that may damage
the engine.

WARNING- Fire
A hot exhaust system can ignite flammable items under
your vehicle. Do not park,
idle, or drive the vehicle over
or near flammable objects,
such as grass, vegetation,
paper, leaves, etc.
The exhaust system and cat- alytic system are very hot
while the engine is running or
immediately after the engine is
turned off. Keep away from the
exhaust system and catalytic,
you may get burned.
Also, do not remove the heat
sink around the exhaust sys-
tem, do not seal the bottom of
the vehicle or do not coat the
vehicle for corrosion control.
It may present a fire risk under
certain conditions.
WARNING - Exhaust
Engine exhaust gases contain
carbon monoxide (CO). Though
colorless and odorless, it is
dangerous and could be lethal if
inhaled. Follow the instructions
on this page to avoid CO poi-
soning.

Your vehicle is equipped with a cat-
alytic converter emission control
device.
Therefore, the following precautions
must be observed:
Use only UNLEADED FUEL for
gasoline engines.
Do not operate the vehicle when there are signs of engine malfunc-
tion, such as misfire or a noticeable
loss of performance.
Do not misuse or abuse the engine. Examples of misuse are
coasting with the ignition off and
descending steep grades in gear
with the ignition off.
Do not operate the engine at high idle speed for extended periods (5
minutes or more).
Do not modify or tamper with any part of the engine or emission con-
trol system. All inspections and
adjustments must be made by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer. Avoid driving with a very low fuel
level. If you run out of gasoline, it
could cause the engine to misfire
and result in excessive loading of
the catalytic converter.
Failure to observe these precautions
could result in damage to the catalyt-
ic converter and to your vehicle.
Additionally, such actions could void
your warranties. Perchlorate Material-special handling

Notice to California Vehicle
Dismantlers :
Perchlorate containing materials,
such as air bag inflators, seatbelt
pretensioners and keyless remote
entry batteries, must be disposed of
according to Title 22 California Code
of Regulations Section 67384.10 (a).
