
Many states and provinces haverestrictions for the use of remote start.Check your local and state or provinciallaws for specific requirements regardingremote start systems.
The remote start system will not work if:
•the ignition is on
•the alarm system is triggered
•you disable the feature
•the hood is open
•the transmission is not in P
•the vehicle battery voltage is too low
•the service engine soon indicator is on.
Remote Starting the Vehicle
Note:You must press each button withinthree seconds of each other. Your vehiclewill not remote start and the horn will notsound if you do not follow this sequence.
The label on your transmitter details thestarting procedure.
To remote start your vehicle:
1. Press the lock button to lock all thedoors.
2. Press the remote start button twice.The exterior lamps will flash twice.
The horn will sound if the system fails tostart.
Note:If you remote start your vehicle withan integrated keyhead transmitter, you mustswitch the ignition on before driving yourvehicle. If you remote start your vehicle withan intelligent access transmitter, you mustpress the START/STOP button on theinstrument panel once while applying thebrake pedal before driving your vehicle.
The power windows will not work duringthe remote start and the radio will not turnon automatically.
The parking lamps will remain on and thevehicle will run for 5, 10, or 15 minutes,depending on the setting.
Extending the Vehicle Run Time
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 with the vehicle stillrunning to extend the run time for anotherremote start duration. If the duration is setto last 10 minutes, the duration will extendby another 10 minutes. For example, if thevehicle had been running from the firstremote start for five minutes, the vehiclewill continue to run now for a total of 20minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after a vehicle shutdown.
Turning the Vehicle Off After RemoteStarting
Press the button once. Theparking lamps will turn off.
You may have to be closer to thevehicle than when starting due to groundreflection and the added noise of therunning vehicle.
You can disable or enable the remote startsystem through the information display.See (page 89).

USING MYKEY WITH REMOTE
START SYSTEMS
MyKey is not compatible with non
Ford-approved, aftermarket remote startsystems. If you choose to install a remotestart system, see an authorized dealer fora Ford-approved remote start system.
MYKEY TROUBLESHOOTING
Potential causesCondition
· The key used to start the vehicle does nothave admin privileges.I cannot create a MyKey.
· The key used to start the vehicle is the onlyadmin key. There always has to be at leastone admin key.· SecuriLock passive anti-theft system isdisabled or in unlimited mode.
· The key in the ignition does not have adminprivileges.I cannot program the configurable settings.
· There are no keys programmed to thevehicle. See Creating a MyKey (page 52).
· The key used to start the vehicle does nothave admin privileges.I cannot clear the MyKeys.
· No MyKeys are created. See Creating aMyKey (page 52).
· Purchase a new key from your authorizeddealer.I lost the only admin key.

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING
You can use the power door lock controlor the remote control to lock and unlockyour vehicle.

The power door lock control is on the driverand front passenger door panels.

Unlocking the Doors (Two-StageUnlock)
Press the button to unlock thedriver door.
Press the button again withinthree seconds to unlock all doors. The turnsignals will flash.
Press and hold both the lock and unlockbuttons on the remote control for fourseconds to disable or enable two-stageunlocking. Disabling two-stage unlockingallows all vehicle doors to unlock with onepress of the button. The turn signals willflash twice to indicate a change to theunlocking mode. The unlocking modeapplies to the remote control and keylessentry keypad.
Locking the Doors
Press the button to lock all thedoors. The turn signals willilluminate.
Press the button again within threeseconds to confirm that all the doors areclosed. The doors will lock again, the hornwill sound and the turn signals willilluminate if all the doors are closed.
Mislock
If any door is open or if the hood is open onvehicles with an anti-theft alarm or remotestart, the horn will sound twice and thelamps will not flash.
Smart Unlocks (If Equipped)
This feature helps to prevent you fromlocking yourself out of your vehicle if yourkey is still in the ignition.
When you open the driver door and lockyour vehicle with the power door lockcontrol, all the doors will lock then unlockif your key is still in the ignition.
Your can still lock your vehicle with the keyin the ignition by:
•using the manual lock on the door
•locking the driver door with a key
•using the keyless entry keypad
•using the lock button on the remotecontrol
Autolock and Autounlock (If Equipped)
The autolock feature will lock all the doorswhen:
•all doors are closed, and
•the ignition is on, and
•you shift into any gear putting yourvehicle in motion, and
•your vehicle attains a speed greaterthan 12 mph (20 km/h).

The autolock feature will unlock all thedoors when:
•autolock has locked the doors
•you stop the vehicle and switch theignition off or to accessory mode, and
•you open the driver door within 10minutes.
Note:The doors will not autounlock if youhave electronically locked them beforeopening the driver door.
Enabling or Disabling
You can enable or disable these featuresin the information display or yourauthorized dealer can do it for you. See(page 89).
Note:You can enable or disable theautolock and autounlock featuresindependently of each other.
Illuminated Entry
The interior lamps and select exteriorlamps will illuminate when you unlock thedoors with the remote entry system.
The illuminated entry system will turn offthe lights if:
•the ignition is on
•you press the remote control lockbutton, or
•after 25 seconds of illumination.
The dome lamp will not turn on if thecontrol is set to the off position.
The lights will not turn off if:
•you turn them on with the dimmercontrol, or
•any door is open.
Battery Saver
The battery saver turns off the interiorlamps 30 minutes after you switch theignition off if a door is open and the domelamp switch is on. It turns off the interiorlamps after 10 minutes if the dome lampswitch is off.
KEYLESS ENTRY (If Equipped)
SECURICODE™ KEYLESS ENTRYKEYPAD
The keypad is located near the driverwindow.
Note:If you enter your entry code too faston the keypad, the unlock function may notwork. Re-enter your entry code more slowly.
You can use the keypad to lock or unlockthe doors without using a key.
For vehicles without intelligent access, youcan operate the keypad with thefactory-set 5-digit entry code. The code islocated on the owner’s wallet card in theglove box and is available from anauthorized dealer. You can also create upto five of your own 5-digit personal entrycodes.
For vehicles with intelligent access, you donot need to enter a 5-digit entry code.Press any button on keyless entry keypadonce to unlock all doors.
Note:You must have an intelligent accesskey within 3 ft (1 m) of your vehicle.

Programming a Personal Entry Code
To create your own personal entry code:
1. Enter the factory-set code.
2. Press 1·2 on the keypad within fiveseconds.
3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Youmust enter each number within fiveseconds of each other.
4. Press 1·2 on the keypad to savepersonal code 1.
The doors will lock then unlock to confirmthat programming was successful.
To program additional personal entrycodes, repeat Steps 1-3, then for Step 4:
•press 3·4 to save personal code 2
•press 5·6 to save personal code 3
•press 7·8 to save personal code 4
•press 9·0 to save personal code 5.
You may also program a personal entrycode through the information display.
Tips:
•Do not set a code that uses five of thesame number.
•Do not use five numbers in sequentialorder.
•The factory-set code will work even ifyou have set your own personal code.
Recalling Memory Positions (IfEquipped)
The programmed entry codes will recalldriver memory positions as follows:
•Entry code 1 will recall driver 1 memorypositions.
•Entry code 2 will recall driver 2 memorypositions.
Note:Personal entry codes 3, 4 and 5 willnot recall memory positions.
Erasing a Personal Code
1. Enter the factory-set 5-digit code.
2. Press and release 1·2 on the keypadwithin five seconds.
3. Press and hold 1·2 for two seconds.You must do this within five secondsof completing Step 2.
All personal codes will erase and only thefactory-set 5-digit code will work.
Anti-Scan Feature
The keypad will go into an anti-scan modeif you enter the wrong code seven times(35 consecutive button presses). Thismode disables the keypad for one minuteand the keypad lamp will flash.
The anti-scan feature will turn off after:
•one minute of keypad inactivity
•pressing the unlock button on theremote control
•switching the ignition on.
Displaying the Factory Set Code
Note:You will need to have twoprogrammed passive anti-theft keys for thisprocedure.
To display the factory-set code in theinformation display:
1.Insert a key into the ignition and switchthe ignition on for a few seconds.
2.Switch the ignition off and remove thekey.
3. Insert the second key into the ignitionand switch the ignition on.
The factory-set code will display for a fewseconds.
Note:The code may not display until afterany other warning messages first display.

To Unlock the Driver Door
Enter the factory-set 5-digit code or yourpersonal code. You must press eachnumber within five seconds of each other.The interior lamps will illuminate.
Note:All doors will unlock if you disablethe two-stage unlocking mode. SeeLocking and Unlocking (page 56).
To Unlock All Doors
Enter the factory-set code or your personalcode, then press 3·4 within five seconds.
To Lock All Doors
Press and hold 7·8 and 9·0 at the sametime (with the driver door closed). You donot need to enter the keypad code first.
Vehicles With Intelligent Access
Press any button on keyless entry keypadonce to unlock all doors.

TAILGATE LOCK
The tailgate lock can help prevent theft ofthe tailgate.
Insert the ignition key into the tailgate lock.Turn it to the right to lock the tailgate. Turnit to the left to unlock the tailgate.
REMOVING THE TAILGATE
WARNING
Always properly secure cargo toprevent shifting cargo or cargo fallingfrom vehicle, which could result incompromised vehicle stability and seriouspersonal injury to vehicle occupants orothers.
You can remove the tailgate for moreloading room.
Note:Skip to Step 4 if your vehicle doesnot have a rearview camera.
1. Locate and disconnect the rearviewcamera in-line connector. It is underthe pickup box on the right-hand sideof the vehicle near the spare tire.
2. There is a tethered cap on the wireassembly. Install it on the in-lineconnector that remains under thepickup box.
3. Partially lower the tailgate. Carefullyfeed the tailgate harness up throughthe gap between the pickup box andthe bumper and place it out of the wayunder the pickup box.
4. Lower the tailgate.
5. Use a screwdriver to gently pry thespring clip on each connector past thehead of the support screw. Disconnectthe cable.
6. Disconnect the other cable.

7. Lift the tailgate to a 45-degree anglefrom horizontal.
8. Lift the right side off its hinge.
9.Lift the tailgate to an 80-degree anglefrom horizontal.
10.Remove the tailgate from the left sidehinge by sliding it to the right.
Reverse the steps to reinstall the tailgate.
TAILGATE STEP (If Equipped)
To reduce the risk of falling:
•Only operate the step when yourvehicle is on a level surface.
•Only operate the step in areas withsufficient lighting.
•Always open the step panel to widenthe step.
•Always use the grab handle whenclimbing on the step.
•Do not use the step with bare feet.
•Make sure the step is clean before use.
•Keep the step load, you plus the load,below 350 lb (159 kg).
Opening the step
Note:Make sure to close and fully latch thestep before moving your vehicle. Never drivewith the step or grab handle open.
1. Lower the tailgate.
2.Pull the yellow lever on the grab handleto the unlock position.
3. Raise the handle upright until you feelit latch and see the lever in the lockposition. You only need to use the leverwhen releasing the grab handle.
4. Rotate the center molding to unlatchthe step. Pull it toward you to extendit.
5.Open the step panel to widen the step.
Note:Do not tow with the step or grabhandle.
Replace the slip resistance tape or grabhandle molding if it appears worn ordamaged.
Closing the step
1. Close the step panel then lift and fullyclose the step into the tailgate.
