1. ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL*Adjusts your vehicle speed to a set gap
between you and the vehicle in front of you
in the same lane. You can select from one
of four GAP settings. Refer to the Cruise
Control chapter of your Owner’s Manual
for more information.
Note: Driving aids do not replace the need
to watch where the vehicle is moving
and brake where necessary. Refer to your
Owner’s Manual for safety information,
more details and limitations.
2. LEFT VEHICLE
INFORMATION DISPLAY
Displays information about various systems
on your vehicle. Use the left, 5-way controls
located on the steering wheel to choose
and confirm settings and messages. Refer
to the Information Displays chapter in your
Owner’s Manual for more information.
3. PADDLE SHIFTERSWith your vehicle in drive (D), the paddle
shifters provide temporary manual control.
They allow you the ability to shift gears
quickly, without taking your hands off the
steering wheel.
You can achieve extensive manual control
by moving the gearshift lever to the sport
(S) position.
• Pull the right paddle (+) to upshift.
• Pull the left paddle (–) to downshift. The instrument cluster displays your
currently selected gear.
Note: The system stays in manual control
until you make another shift selection
(for example, drive [D]).
Refer to the Transmission chapter in your
Owner’s Manual for more information.
4. SERVICE ENGINE
SOON LIGHT
Illuminates briefly when you switch
the ignition on. If the light remains on
or blinks after you start the engine, the
On-Board Diagnostics (OBD-II) system
detects a problem. Drive in a moderate
fashion and contact an authorized dealer
as soon as possible.
5. RIGHT VEHICLE
INFORMATION DISPLAY *
Displays information about various
systems on your vehicle. Use the right,
5-way controls on your steering wheel to
scroll through, highlight and make minor
adjustments within a selected menu.
Refer to your SYNC Supplement for
more information.
6. AUTOWIPERS* To switch this feature on, move the
wiper controls to intermittent wipe. The
autowiper system turns the wipers on only
when moisture is present on the windshield. The wiper speed depends on how much
moisture the system detects and the
sensitivity setting.
Note: Make sure you switch off this feature
before entering a car wash.

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED
1. Set up your owner account at owner.ford.com (U.S.) or
SyncMyRide.ca (Canada). Register by following the on-screen
instructions. After registering you can see which services you
are eligible for.
2. SYNC uses a wireless connection called
Bluetooth® to
communicate with your phone. Turn Bluetooth mode on in your
phone’s menu options. This lets your phone find SYNC. If you
need more details on setting up your phone with SYNC, visit
owner.ford.com (U.S.), SyncMyRide.ca (Canada) or your
phone manufacturer’s website.
PAIRING YOUR CELL PHONE WITH SYNC
In order to use the many features of SYNC, you must first connect
or pair your phone with SYNC.
Note: If you have SYNC 3*, see the pairing instructions on page 10.
To Pair Your Cell Phone for the First Time
1. Make sure that your vehicle is in park (P) and you switch
your ignition and radio on.
2. Press the phone button
. When the display indicates
No Phone Found, press OK.
3. When Add Bluetooth Device? appears in the SYNC display,
press OK.
4. When Find SYNC appears in the display, press OK. When
prompted on your phone’s display, enter the PIN provided by
SYNC into your phone.
5. The display indicates when the pairing is successful.
Note: The system may prompt you to set your phone as the primary
or favorite. The primary phone receives messages and voicemail.
Download your phone book (a requirement to use the full set of
voice commands) and then switch on 911 Assist
®.
Tips
• Make sure you accept the request from SYNC to access
your phone.
• To pair subsequent phones, please refer to Pairing Subsequent
Cell Phones in the SYNC chapter of your Owner’s Manual.
• If you are experiencing pairing problems, try performing a clean
pairing by deleting your services from SYNC, deleting the SYNC
connection from your phone, and then repeating the process.

USING YOUR CELL PHONE WITH SYNC
Note: Enter your phone book contacts with both first and last
names to increase the ability of SYNC to select the correct contact.
Remember to say the contact name exactly as it is listed in your
phone book.
Making a Phone Call
Use SYNC to make a phone call to anyone in your phone book
by pressing the voice button
and when prompted, giving a
voice command.
For example, you could say “Call Jake Smith at home”. SYNC
repeats the command back to you and dials the number.
Note: You can also make phone calls by pressing the voice
button . When prompted, give the voice command “Dial”,
then say the phone number.
Answering Incoming Calls
Whenever you have an incoming call, the name and number
of the person calling appears in your display. Press the phone
button
to answer an incoming call. You can hang up at any
time by pressing and holding the phone button .
USING SYNC TO ACCESS DIGITAL MEDIA
SYNC has a media hub that allows you to access personal media
from your digital devices. Plug in your USB media devices such
as phones and MP3 players and use SYNC to play all of your
favorite music.
Note: SYNC indexes your music; the more stored information you
have on your USB device, the longer it takes SYNC to index.
Using Voice Commands to Play Music
You can use voice commands to access and play music on your
digital media player when it is plugged into your media hub.
1. Plug your media player into your USB port.
2. Press the voice button
. When prompted, say “USB”,
then follow-up by saying a voice command. For a list of
voice commands, say “What can I say?”.

GETTING STARTED, UNDERSTANDING SYNC 3
Use the touchscreen to explore and interact with your vehicle. The
touchscreen works the same way traditional controls, knobs and
buttons do. Press the various areas on your touchscreen to personalize
the many features and settings of your vehicle all in one place. The
system provides easy interaction with your audio, climate, phone,
navigation*, apps and settings. Pairing Your Cell Phone with SYNC 3
Pair your phone to SYNC before using SYNC 3. Make
sure that your vehicle is in park (P) and you switch on
your ignition.
•
Make sure you switch Bluetooth on and that your
device is discoverable through Bluetooth.
• Touch Add Phone on the touchscreen.
• Select SYNC on your device. A six-digit PIN appears on
your device.
• If your device prompts you to enter a PIN, enter the PIN
displayed on the touchscreen. Skip the next step.
• When prompted on your phone’s display, confirm that
the PIN provided by SYNC matches the PIN displayed
on your cellular phone.
• The display indicates when the pairing
is successful.
PHONE
After pairing your phone, you can access
more phone-dependent features:
• Recent call lists.
• Contacts: Sort alphabetically and
choose a specific letter to begin
viewing your entries.
• Phone settings: Pair another phone, and
set ring tones and alerts.
• Text messages.
• Do not disturb: Send all calls to your voice
mail, and all ring tones and alerts set to
silent mode.
Note: Use the voice commands to make
calls. Say “Call James at home” or “Dial
555-1212”. You can use the touchscreen
to place calls as well. Refer to your SYNC
Supplement for complete details.
NAVIGATION*
Press the navigation* icon to set your
destination. Select one of two ways to find
your destination:
• Destination mode lets you key in a
specific address or use a variety of search
methods to locate where you want to go. •
Map mode shows advanced viewing of
2-D city maps, 3-D landmarks and 3-D
city models (when available).
See your SYNC Supplement for details.
Set a Destination
Press Destination on your touchscreen and
then press Search . Enter a street address,
intersection, city or a point of interest (POI).
You can also use voice commands. Say
“Find a point of interest” and then select a
category, such as hotels or restaurants.
After you choose your destination, press
Start. The system uses a variety of screens
and visible prompts to guide you to
your destination.
The navigation map shows your estimated
time of arrival, remaining travel time or the
distance to your destination. Navigation Menu
During active navigation, touch the bottom
of the screen to view the menu, and then
select Screen View.
•
Full Map.
• Highway Exit Info displays on the right
side of the touchscreen. View POI
icons (restaurants, ATMs, etc.) as they
pertain to each exit. You can select a
POI as a waypoint, if you wish.
• Turn List shows all of the available
turns on your current route.
• Traffic List displays SiriusXM Traffic
and Travel Link* information. The
system calculates efficient routes
based on available speed limits,
and traffic and road conditions.

CLIMATE
Access climate control features, including
the temperature, airflow direction,
fan speed and other climate features
for you and your front passenger.
Set Your Temperature*
• Touch the Climate icon on
the touchscreen.
• Use voice commands to change your
settings, like “Climate set temperature
to 72 degrees” and SYNC 3 makes
that adjustment.
• You can also use the
or buttons on
the touchscreen.
AUDIO
No matter how you store your music,
SYNC makes it yours to enjoy when
you’re behind the wheel. Press the Audio
icon on the touchscreen, and from here,
you can easily go between AM/FM,
SiriusXM and other media sources.
Set Your Radio Presets
• Tune to the station. Press and hold one
of the memory preset buttons. The audio
mutes briefly while the system saves
the station, and then the audio returns.
• Two preset banks are available
for AM and three banks for FM. To
access additional presets, tap the
preset button. The indicator on the
preset button shows the bank of
presets you are currently viewing. Bring in Your Own Music
Use SYNC to play all of your
favorite music from phones, flash
drives and other devices.
Plug your device into a USB port,
select Sources and then choose USB
.
Wait for the system to finish indexing
your music to begin listening.
You can even create random playlists
by using the Shuffle function.
APPS
Voice Control Your Smartphone Apps
The system supports the use of
certain types of apps such as Spotify
®
and Glympse® through USB or
Bluetooth-enabled devices.
Each app gives you different
on-screen options depending on the
app’s content. To find new apps, use the
voice command, “Find new apps”.

FRONT SEATS*
Press the or seat icon repeatedly
to cycle through the settings and off. More
lights indicate warmer or cooler settings.
MEMORY FUNCTION*The memory
function allows a
one-touch recall
of personalized
memory features
including the
driver seat, power
mirrors and steering column*. Use the
memory controls on the driver’s door to
program and then recall memory positions.
To program position 1, press and hold 1 until
you hear a tone. Use this same procedure
to set positions 2 and 3 by pressing the
respective buttons. You can now use these
controls to recall the set memory positions.
You can also program your memory seats
to your transmitter. That way, when you
unlock your door with the transmitter, your
memory features automatically move into
your saved position. See the Seats chapter
in your Owner’s Manual for more details.
MOONROOF*The moonroof controls are on the overhead
console and have a one-touch open and
close feature. To stop its movement during
one-touch operation, press the control a
second time.
Moonroof open button:
Press and release to open. The
moonroof stops short of the fully
opened position. To open the
moonroof fully, press and release the
open control again.
Moonroof close button:
Press and release to close. The
moonroof stops short of the fully
closed position. To close the
moonroof fully, press and hold the
close control again.
Moonroof vent button:
Press and release to vent.
Sunshade Controls*
Sunshade open button:
Press and release to open. The
power shade automatically opens
with the moonroof. You can also
open the power shade with the
moonroof closed. The sunshade
stops short of its fully opened
position for the comfort of rear
passengers. To open the sunshade
fully, press the control again.
Sunshade close button:
Press and release to close.
