Never extract the key while
the vehicle is moving. The
steering wheel would be locked as
soon as the steering wheel is turned.
This also applies to cases in which the
vehicle is towed. Under no circum-
stances should after-market opera-
tions be carried out involving steering
system or steering column modifica-
tions (e.g.: installation of anti-theft
device) that could negatively affect
performance and safety, cause the
lapse of the warranty and also result
in vehicle non-compliance with type-
approval requirements.
WARNINGIGNITION DEVICE
The key can be turned to 3 different po-
sitions fig. 9:
❒STOP: the engine is off, the key can be
extracted, the steering is locked. Some
electrical devices (e.g. car radio, central
door locking system, alarm, etc.) are en-
abled.
❒MAR: driving position. All electrical de-
vices work regularly.
❒AVV: engine start.
The ignition device is fitted with a safety
system that forces the driver to return the
ignition key to STOPbefore repeating the
starting operation, if the engine does not
start up.STEERING COLUMN LOCK
Engagement
When the key is at STOP, remove the key
and turn the steering wheel until it locks.
Disengagement
Rock the steering wheel slightly as you
turn the ignition key to MAR.

WARNING
Under no circumstances
should aftermarket opera-
tions involving steering system or
steering column modifications (e.g.:
installation of anti-theft device) be
carried out that could badly affect
performance and safety. This also
causes the warranty to become null
and void and results in vehicle non-
compliance with type-approval re-
quirements.

strument panel.
Direction indicators are switched off au-
tomatically when the steering wheel of the
vehicle is straightened.
If you want the indicator to flash briefly to
show that you are about to change lane,
which requires minimum steering wheel
rotation, move the stalk up or down with-
out clicking into position (unstable posi-
tion). When released, the stalk will return
to its home position.Lane change function
If you want to signal that you are changing
lane, bring the left stalk in unstable posi-
tion for shorter than half a second.
The direction indicator on the selected
side flashes three times and then switch-
es off automatically.“FOLLOW ME HOME”
DEVICE
This device allows the illumination of the
space in front of the vehicle for a preset
time.
Activation
With the ignition key on STOPor re-
moved, pull the stalk towards the steering
wheel within 2 minutes from when the en-
gine is turned off.
At each single movement of the stalk, the
lights stay on for further 30 seconds up to
a maximum of 210 seconds; then the lights
are switched off automatically.
Warning light
3on the instrument pan-
el lights up, and the corresponding mes-
sage appears on the display (see “Warn-
ing lights and messages”), whenever the
stalk is moved. The warning light goes out
when the stalk is operated and stays on
until the device is automatically deactivat-
ed. The time during which the lights stay
on can only be increased by operating the
stalk.
Deactivation
Keep the stalk pulled towards the steer-
ing wheel for more than 2 seconds.

WINDOW WASHING
The right stalk fig. 50controls windscreen
wiper/washer and rear heated window
wiper/washer operation (where provid-
ed).
WINDSCREEN WIPER\WASHER
The device can work only when the igni-
tion key is on MAR.
The right lever can take four different po-
sitions:
Owindscreen wiper off;
≤intermittent;
≥continuous slow;
¥continuous fast.
Move the lever to position A-fig. 50(un-
stable) to limit operation during the time
when the lever is held in this position. The
lever will return to position and the wiper
will be automatically stopped when re-
leased.
With the knurled ring in position
≤the
windscreen wiper will automatically adapt
to the speed of the vehicle.
With windscreen wiper on and reverse
gear engaged, the rear window wiper is
automatically activated.
fig. 50F0T0158m
Do not use the windscreen
wiper to remove layers of
snow or ice from the wind-
screen. In such conditions, the
windscreen wiper may be subjected to
excessive stress and the motor protec-
tion which prevents operation for a few
seconds may trip. If the issue persists,
contact the Fiat Dealership.
“Smart washing” function
Pull the stalk towards the steering wheel
(unstable position) to operate the wind-
screen washer jet.
Keeping the stalk pulled for more than half
a second, with just one movement it is
possible to operate the washer jet and the
wiper at the same time.
The wiper stops working three strokes af-
ter releasing the stalk.
A further stroke after approx. 6 seconds
completes the wiping cycle.
REAR WINDOW WIPER/
WASHER
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The device can work only when the igni-
tion key is on MAR.
Activation
Turn the knurled ring to
'to operate the
rear window wiper as follows:
❒intermittent operation if the wind-
screen wiper is off;
❒synchronised with the windscreen
wiper (but with half stroke frequency);
❒continuous operation with reverse gear
engaged and windscreen wiper on.

FRONT AIRBAGS
The vehicle is provided with front airbags
for the driver and the passenger (for ver-
sions/markets, where provided).
FRONT AIRBAGS
The front airbags on both the driver’s and
passenger’s side (for versions/markets,
where provided) have been designed to
protect the occupants in the event of
head-on crashes of medium-high severity,
by placing the bag between the occupant
and the steering wheel or dashboard.
Non-deployment of the airbags in other
types of collisions (side collisions, rear
shunts, roll-overs, etc.) does not neces-
sarily indicate a system malfunction.
An electronic control unit causes the bag
to inflate in the event of a front crash.
The bag will inflate instantaneously placing
itself between the front occupant’s body
and the structures which could cause in-
jury. It will deflate immediately afterwards.
Driver and passenger front airbags (for
versions/markets, where provided) are
not a replacement of, but complementary
to, the seat belts, which you are recom-
mended to always wear as specified by law
in Europe and most non-European coun-
tries. In the event of a collision, a person not
wearing the seat belt may be thrown for-
ward and come into contact with the bag
before it has fully opened. The protection
offered by the bag is reduced in such a
case.
Front airbags may not be activated in the
following situations:
❒in front collisions against highly de-
formable objects which do not affect
the front surface of the vehicle (e.g.
bumper collision against guard rail, etc.);
❒vehicle penetration under other vehi-
cles or protective barriers (e.g. trucks
or guard rails);
they could not provide any additional pro-
tection compared with seat belts, so their
deployment would be improper. In these
cases non-deployment of the airbag does
not necessarily indicate a system malfunc-
tion.Do not apply stickers or oth-
er objects on the steering
wheel, on the dashboard (in passen-
ger side airbag area) and on the seats.
Do not place objects (e.g. cell phones)
on the passenger’s side dashboard be-
cause these could interfere with cor-
rect deployment of the passenger’s
airbag and cause severe injury to ve-
hicle occupants.
WARNING
The front airbags on the driver’s and pas-
senger’s sides are designed and calibrated
to protect the front seat passengers who
wear safety belts.
The volume of the front airbags at max.
inflation fills most of the space between
the steering wheel and the driver and be-
tween the dashboard and the passenger.
The airbags are not deployed in the event
of front collisions of low severity (for
which the withholding action of the seat
belts is sufficient). Safety belts must always
be worn. In the event of a front crash they
ensure the correct positioning of the oc-
cupant.
