Under-inflation detection
System which automatically checks the pressures of the tyres while driving.
T he under-inflation detection system
d
oes not replace the need for vigilance
o
n the part of the driver.
This
system does not avoid the need to
c
heck the tyre pressures (including the
s
pare wheel) every month as well as
b
efore a long journey.
Driving
with under-inflated tyres
i
mpairs road holding, extends braking
d
istances and causes premature
t
yre wear, particularly under arduous
c
ondition (high loading, high speed,
lon
g
jo
urney).The
inflation pressures defined for
y
our vehicle can be found on the tyre
p
ressure label.
See
the "Identification markings"
s
ection.
Tyre
pressures should be checked
w
hen the tyres are "cold" (vehicle
s
topped for 1 hour or after a journey of
l
ess than 6 miles (10 km) at moderate
s
peeds).
Other wise
(when hot), add 0.3 bar to
t
he pressures shown on the label.
Driving
with under-inflated tyres
i
ncreases fuel consumption.
The
system monitors the pressures in the four
t
yres, once the vehicle is moving.
It
compares the information given by the four
w
heel speed sensors with reference values,
which must be reinitialised ever y time the
tyre pressures are adjusted or a wheel
changed .
The
system triggers an alert as soon as it
d
etects a drop in the inflation pressure of one
o
r more tyres.
151
The alert is maintained until the system is r einitialised.

reinitialising the system, ensure

The

d

Reinitialisation
It is necessary to reinitialise the system every time one or more tyre pressure is adjusted, and
a
fter changing one or more wheels.
A
label on the middle pillar, left hand side, gives
a
reminder of this.
Safety
Braking assistance systems
Group of supplementary systems which help you to obtain optimum braking in complete
s
afety in emergency situations:
-
a
nti-lock braking system (ABS),
-
e
lectronic brake force distribution (EBFD),
-
e
mergency braking assistance (EBA).Anti-lock braking system
and electronic brake force
distribution
Linked systems which improve the stability and manoeuvrability of your vehicle when braking,
i
n particular on poor or slippery sur faces.
Activation
The anti-lock braking system comes into operation automatically when there is a risk of
w
heel lock.
Normal
operation of the ABS may make itself
f
elt by slight vibration of the brake pedal.
When
braking in an emergency, press
v
ery firmly without releasing the
p
ressure.
Operating fault
If this warning lamp comes on, together with the STOP and ABS
warning
lamps, accompanied by an
a
udible
signal and a message in the screen, it
i
ndicates
a malfunction of the electronic brake
f
orce
distribution which could result in loss of
c
ontrol
of
the vehicle when braking.
You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
When
replacing wheels (tyres and
r
ims), ensure that they conform to the
ma
nufacturer's
r
ecommendations.
If
this warning lamp comes on,
a
ccompanied by an audible signal
a
nd a message in the screen, it
i
ndicates
a malfunction of the anti-lock braking
s
ystem
which could result in loss of control of
t
he
vehicle when braking.
In
either
case, contact a CITROËN dealer or a
q
ualified
w
orkshop.
155
Emergency braking assistance
System which, in an emergency, enables you to obtain the optimum braking pressure more
q
uickly, thus reducing the stopping distance.
Activation
It is triggered by the speed at which the brake pedal is pressed.
The
effect of this is a reduction in the
r
esistance of the pedal and an increase in
b
raking
e
fficiency.
When
braking in an emergency, press
f
irmly without releasing the pressure.
Trajectory control systems
Anti-slip regulation (ASR)
and dynamic stability
control (
d
SC)
The anti-slip regulation (also known as traction control) optimises traction to prevent skidding
o
f the wheels, by acting on the brakes of the
d
riving wheels and on the engine.
The electronic stability control acts on the
brake
of one or more wheels and on the engine
t
o keep the vehicle on the trajectory required
b
y the driver, within the limits of the laws of
p
hysics.Activation
These systems are activated automatically each time the vehicle is started.
They
come into operation in the event of a grip
o
r
t
rajectory
pro
blem.
This
is indicated by flashing of this
w
arning lamp in the instrument panel.
Safety
deactivation
In extremely severe conditions (deep snow, mud...), when it is not possible to move off, it
m
ay be useful to temporarily deactivate the
s
ystems, so that the wheels can spin freely and
r
egain grip.
F
P
ress this button, located on the left below
t
he steering wheel.
Illumination
of the lamp in the button indicates
t
hat the systems are deactivated.
Reactivation
These systems are reactivated automatically each time the ignition is switched back on
o
r from 30 mph (50 km/h) except 1.6 litre
(
THP 150, THP 155 and THP 160) and
R
ACING petrol engines.
F
P
ress this button again to reactivate them
m
anually.
Operating fault
The DSC/ASR systems offer exceptional s afety i n n ormal d riving, b ut
t
his should not encourage the driver to
t
ake extra risks or drive at high speed.
The
correct functioning of these
s
ystems depends on observation of the

nufacturer's

it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a

Operating limits
The system only detects vehicles that are stationary or moving in the same direction as

our vehicle.
It
does not detect small vehicles
(

Front airbags
System which protects the driver and front passenger in the event of a serious front impact
i
n order to limit the risk of injury to the head and
c
hest.
The
driver's airbag is fitted in the centre of the
s
teering wheel; the front passenger's airbag is
f
itted in the dashboard above the glove box.deployment
The airbags are deployed, except the passenger's front airbag if it is deactivated,
i
n the event of a serious front impact applied
t
o all or part of the front impact zone A, in
the
longitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a
h
orizontal plane and directed from the front to
t
he rear of the vehicle.
The
front airbag inflates between the head-
thorax
of the front occupant of the vehicle
a
nd the dashboard to cushion their for ward
m
ovement.
Safety
169
For the airbags to be fully effective, observe the following safety rules:Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on the centre
p
art of the wheel.
Passengers
must not place their feet on the
das
hboard.
Do
not smoke as deployment of the airbags
c
an cause burns or the risk of injury from a
c
igarette or pipe.
Never
remove or pierce the steering wheel or
h
it it violently.
Do
not fit or attach anything to the steering
w
heel or dashboard, this could cause injuries
w
ith deployment of the airbags.
Lateral airbags
Use only approved covers on the seats, compatible with the deployment the lateral a
irbags. For information on the range of seat
c
overs suitable for your vehicle, you can
contact
a CITROËN dealer.
Refer
to the "Accessories" section.
Do
not fix or attach anything to the seat
b
acks (clothing...). This could cause injury
t
o the chest or arms if the lateral airbag is
d
eployed.
Do
not sit with the upper part of the body any
n
earer to the door than necessary.
Curtain airbags
Do not fix or attach anything to the roof. This could cause injury to the head if the
c
urtain airbag is deployed.
If
fitted on your vehicle, do not remove the
g
rab handles installed on the roof, they play
a
part in securing the curtain airbags.
