Overview
The socket is located between the front seats.Information Observe the following when connecting:
▷Do not use force when plugging the con‐
nector into the USB interface.▷Do not connect devices such as fans or
lights to the USB interface.▷Do not connect USB hard drives.▷Do not use the USB interface for recharg‐
ing external devices.

Cargo cover
Information WARNING
Loose objects in the car's interior can be
thrown into the car's interior while driving, e.g.
in the event of an accident or during braking
and evasive maneuvers. There is risk of inju‐
ries. Secure loose objects in the car's inte‐
rior.◀
General information The cargo cover is in two parts. This can be re‐
moved to load bulky luggage.
Removing
Rear cover1.Detach the retaining straps at the tailgate.2.Pry cover up a bit, arrow 1, and pull out of
the brackets toward the back, arrow 2.
Front cover
1.Push cover out of the bracket upward on
both sides, arrow 1.2.Pull cover out of the bracket toward the
rear on both sides, arrow 2.
Installing
Proceed in the reverse order to reinstall. The
cargo covers must snap audibly into place on
their respective holders.
Cargo floor panel
General information
The cargo floor panel can be removed to stow
unwieldy luggage.

▷On steep downhill grades, use Hill Descent
Control HDC, refer to page 122.▷Avoid that the chassis bottom coming in
contact with the ground.
The ground clearance is no more than 7.8
inches/20 cm and can vary according to
the vehicle's load.▷When wheels continue to spin, depress the
accelerator so that driving stability control
systems can distribute the driving force to
the wheels. Activate DTC Dynamic Trac‐
tion Control if available.
After a trip on poor roads
After a trip on poor roads, check wheels and
tires for damage to maintain driving safety.
Clear heavy soiling from the body.
General driving notes
Closing the tailgate WARNING
An open tailgate protrudes from the vehi‐
cle and can endanger occupants and other
traffic participants or damage the vehicle in the
event of an accident, braking or evasive ma‐
neuvers. In addition, exhaust fumes may enter
the vehicle interior. There is risk of injuries or
risk of property damage. Do not drive with the
tailgate open.◀
If driving with the tailgate open cannot be
avoided:
▷Close all windows and the glass sunroof.▷Greatly increase the air flow from the vents.▷Drive moderately.
Hot exhaust system
WARNING
During driving operation, high tempera‐
tures can occur underneath the body, e.g.
caused by the exhaust gas system. If combus‐
tible materials, such as leaves or grass, come
in contact with hot parts of the exhaust gas
system, these materials can ignite. There is
risk of injuries or risk of property damage.
Do not remove the heat shields installed and
never apply undercoating to them. Make sure
that no combustible materials can come in
contact with hot vehicle parts in driving opera‐
tion, idle or during parking. Do not touch the
hot exhaust system.◀
Mobile communication devices in thevehicle
WARNING
Vehicle electronics and mobile phones
can influence one another. There is radiation
due to the send operations of mobile phones.
There is risk of injuries or risk of property dam‐
age. If possible, in the car's interior use only
mobile phones with direct connections to an exterior antenna in order to exclude mutual
disturbance and deflect the radiation from the
car's interior.◀
Hydroplaning On wet or slushy roads, a wedge of water can
form between the tires and road surface.
This phenomenon is referred to as hydroplan‐
ing. It is characterized by a partial or complete
loss of contact between the tires and the road
surface, ultimately undermining your ability to
steer and brake the vehicle.
Driving through water CAUTION
When driving too quickly through too
deep water, water can enter into the engine
compartment, the electrical system or the
transmission. There is risk of property damage.
When driving through water, do not exceed the
maximum indicated water level and the maxi‐

LoadingBecause roof racks raise the vehicle's center
of gravity when loaded, they have a major ef‐
fect on vehicle handling and steering re‐
sponse.
Therefore, note the following when loading
and driving:▷Do not exceed the approved roof/axle
loads and the approved gross vehicle
weight.▷Be sure that adequate clearance is main‐
tained for tilting and opening the glass
sunroof.▷Distribute the roof load uniformly.▷The roof load should not extend past the
loading area.▷Always place the heaviest pieces on the
bottom.▷Secure the roof luggage firmly, e.g., tie
with ratchet straps.▷Do not let objects project into the opening
path of the tailgate.▷Drive cautiously and avoid sudden acceler‐
ation and braking maneuvers. Take corners

Bulb replacement, exterior tail lights
General information

Turn signal: 21-watt bulb, P21WLL.
Outer brake lamp: 21 watt bulb, P21WLL.
Removing the exterior tail lamp1.Open the tailgate.2.Remove the fastening using the screw
driver from the onboard vehicle tool kit, ar‐
row 1.
Remove cover, arrow 2.3.Loosen both nuts, arrow 1, of the outer tail
lamp.
Carefully pull out the tail lights toward the
front, arrow 2, from the body. Ensure that
the wiring is not damaged.4.Pull the plug out of the bulb holder and

Replacing the bulbs1.Loosen the three fasteners, arrow 1, on the
bulb holder.
Remove the bulb holder from the tail lamp,
arrow 2.2.Press the nonworking bulb gently into the
socket, turn counterclockwise and remove.▷Upper bulb: turn signal▷Lower bulb: brake light3.Proceed in the reverse order to insert the
new bulb and attach the bulb holder. Make
sure that the bulb holder engages in all fas‐
teners.
Installing the tail lamp
1.Connect the plug and mount the wiring on
the tail lamp, arrow 1.2.Place the tail lamp with the tab, arrow 2, on
the mounting point of the body and push
onto both of the threaded bolt.3.Press on the tail lights until flush and
tighten both of the nuts. Mount the cover.Lights in the tailgate

Response Center which serve to deter‐
mine the necessary rescue measures. E. g.
the current position of the vehicle, if it can
be established.▷If the LED is flashing green, but the BMW
Response Center can no longer be heard
via the speaker, you can nevertheless still
be heard at the BMW Response Center.
Initiating an Emergency Request
automatically
Under certain conditions, an Emergency Re‐
quest is automatically initiated immediately af‐
ter a severe accident. Automatic Collision Noti‐
fication is not affected by pressing the SOS
button.
Warning triangle
The warning triangle is located on the inside of
the tailgate.
Move the warning triangle sideways and re‐
move it.
First-aid kit InformationSome of the articles have a limited service life.
Check the expiration dates of the contents
regularly and replace any expired items
promptly.
Storage The first-aid kit is located in the cargo area on
the left in the storage compartment.
Jump-starting
General information
If the battery is discharged, the engine can be
started using the battery of another vehicle
and two jumper cables. Only use jumper ca‐
bles with fully insulated clamp handles.
Information DANGER
Contact with live components can lead to
an electric shock. There is risk of injuries or
danger to life. Do not touch any components
that are under voltage.◀
To prevent personal injury or damage to both
vehicles, adhere strictly to the following proce‐
dure.
Preparation CAUTION
In the case of body contact between the
two vehicles, a short circuit can occur during
jump-starting. There is risk of property dam‐
age. Make sure that no body contact occurs.◀1.Check whether the battery of the other ve‐
hicle has a voltage of 12 volts. This infor‐
mation can be found on the battery.2.Switch off the engine of the assisting vehi‐
cle.3.Switch off any electronic systems/power
