Front seats
Manual adjustment of seats
Applies to: vehicles with manual seat adjustment

A WARNING

- For safety reasons the seat backrests must
always be locked while driving -risk of in­
jury!
- Never run a seat belt through one of the
openings in the backrest. This could cause
the backrest to tip forwards while the vehi­
cle is moving -accident risk!
Multi-function button
Applies to: vehicles with multi-function button
The multi-function button can be used to adjust
the side cushions.

duced by adjusting the side cushions on the
backrest.
@ Note
The air in the side cushions* is released when
you open the driver's door. This makes it eas­
ier to get in and out of the vehicle. The side
cushions are re-inflated as soon as you drive
the vehicle.
Centre armrest
Applies to vehicles with centre armrest

� To adjust the angle, lift the armrest ¢ Fig. 55
until it engages in the desired position.
� To lower the armrest again, lift the armrest
slightly from the top click stop and then fold it
back down. Then raise the armrest to the de­
sired position if necessary.
You can move the armrest backwards or for­
wards.
There is a storage compartment underneath the
armrest.

The tyre pressures should always be checked
when the tyres are cold.
Do not use winter tyres all through the year; they
will increase fuel consumption by up to 10 %.
Avoid carrying unnecessary loads
Every kilo of extra weight will increase the fuel
consumption, so it is worth checking the luggage
compartment occasionally to make sure that no
unnecessary loads are being transported.
Save electrical energy
The engine drives the alternator to generate elec­
tricity. This means that fuel consumption rises
when more power is required for electrical equip­
ment. Switch off electrical equipment when it is
not needed. Electrical equipment which uses a
lot of electricity includes the blower (at a high
setting), the rear window heating and the seat
heating*.
Steering Adjusting the steering wheel position
The height and reach of the steering wheel can
be adjusted as required to suit the driver.

� Then push the lever towards the steering col­
umn until the catch engages.

- Never adjust the position of the steering
wheel when the vehicle is moving - this

- Press the lever upwards so it is secure and
so that the position of the steering wheel
cannot shift unexpectedly while the vehicle
is moving -risk of accident!
Starting and stopping
the engine
Starting the engine -
You can use the !START
ENGINE STOP!
button to
switch on the ignition and start the engine.

Switching the ignition on/off
� To switch the ignition on/off, press the
!START ENGINE STOP!
button without pressing
the clutch pedal (manual gearbox) or brake
pedal (automatic gearbox). Diesel engines are
preheated when the ignition is switched on.�

Download directory
To update the contacts in the MMI, you can
download the contacts from your mobile phone
manu ally. Depending on the mobile phone you
are using, the Bluetooth connection may have to
be disconnected and re-established before you
can update the contacts.
Hiding contacts without a number
If this function is switched on� and if no num­
ber has been stored for a contact, the contact is
displayed greyed out in the direc tory.
Seat belt microphone
Applies to: vehicles with seat belt microphone
The seat belt microphone is ideally positioned
for the best possible communication quality
when using the handsfree system, irrespective of
your height and sitting position.

The seat belt microphone is activated as soon as
you put on the seat belt. Make sure that the mi­
crophones are on the outside of the seat belt

When the driver's seat belt is unbuc kled, the sys­
tem switches from the seat belt microphone to
the roof microphone.
@ Note
- If you switch off* the passenger's airbag,
the passenger's seat belt microphone is de­
activated even if the belt is buckled.
- If the opening for a microphone is dirty, this
can impair the quality of handsfree commu­
nication. In this case, clean the seat belt mi­
crophone using a fine brush.

three times in a row, you will not be able to
enter a password for approximately one mi­
nute. The password can only be reset by an
Audi workshop.

General notes
Safety is the first priority
Your safety is our first priority.
This chapter contains important information,
tips, suggestions and warnings that you should
read and observe for your own safety and the
safety of your passengers.
A WARNING
- The information in this chapter is important
for the driver of the vehicle and the passen­
ger. The other chapters in this manual (and,
where applicable, in the other literature
supplied with the vehicle) contain further
important notes which you should read and
observe for your own safety and that of your
passenger.
- Ensure that the complete vehicle wallet is
always in the vehicle. This is especially im­
portant when you lend or sell the vehicle to
others.
Safety features
The safety features Listed here are part of the ve­
hicle's occupant restraint system. They work to­
gether to help reduce the risk of injury in a wide
variety of accident situations.
Your safety and the safety of your passengers
should not be left to chance. In the event of an
accident, the safety features incorporated in your
vehicle are capable of reducing the risk of injury.
These are just a few of the safety features in your
Audi:
- Seat belts for all seats
- Belt force limiters for all seats
- Belt tensioners for all seats
- Front airbags
- Side airbags in the backrests
- "ISOFIX" anchorages* for "ISO FIX" child seats
on the passenger's seat
-Adjustable steering column

individual safety features are harmonised
to provide you and your passenger with the best
possible protection in accident situations. How­
ever, they can only be effective if you and your
passenger sit in the correct position and adjust
and use the safety equipment properly.
For these reasons, this chapter explains why
these safety features are so important, how they
can protect you, what you need to remember
when using them, and how you and your passen­
gers can gain the most benefit from them. There
are also a number of important safety warnings
which you and your passengers should always ob­
serve in order to minimise the risk of injury.
Safety is everyone's responsibility!
Before every trip
The driver is responsible for the safety of the
passengers and the safe operation of the vehicle
at all times.
For your own safety and the safety of your pas­
senger, always note the following points before
every trip:
.,. Make sure that all lights and turn signals are
working properly .
... Check
the tyre pressures.
... Make sure that all windows are clean and give
good visibility to the outside.
... Secure all luggage and other items carefully
¢page 227.
... Make sure that no objects can interfere with
the pedals.
... Adjust the mirrors and the seat according to
your body height.
.,. Make sure that children are protected with suit­
able safety seats and properly worn seat belts
¢page 223.
... Sit
in the correct position in your seat. Make
sure that your passenger is sitting in the cor­
rect position ¢ page 54.
... Fasten your seat belt correctly. Make sure that

factors can impair your safety?
Safety on the road is directly related to how you
drive, and can also be affected by the passengers
in the vehicle.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the ve­
hicle and all its occupants. If your ability to drive
is impaired in any way, you endanger yourself and
other road users ¢ ,A. Therefore:
""Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers
or by using a mobile phone, etc.
"" Never drive when your driving ability is im­
paired (by medication, alcohol, drugs, etc.).
"" Obey all traffic regulations and speed limits
and always maintain a safe distance to the vehi­
cle in front.
"" Always adjust your speed to suit the road, traf­
fic and weather conditions.
"" Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive
for more than two hours without a stop.
""If possible, avoid driving when you are tired or
stressed.
A WARNING
- Distractions while driving or any kind of im­
pairment to your driving ability increase the
risk of accident and injury.
- Do not place loose objects on the dash pan­
el. These objects could fly around the interi­
or when the vehicle is moving (under accel­
eration or whilst cornering) and distract the
driver -risk of accident! Safe

Correct sitting positions
Correct driving position
The correct driving position is important for safe
driving.

For your own safety, and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
the following driving position.
"" Adjust the driver's seat and steering wheel so
there is a distance of at least 25 cm between
your breastbone and the centre of the steering
wheel¢ Fig. 182.
"" Adjust the height and fore/aft position of the
driver's seat so that you are able to press the
pedals to the floor without fully straightening
your legs¢ A.
"" Adjust the backrest to an upright position so
that your back remains in contact with the up­
holstery.
""Adjust the longitudinal position of the steering
wheel so that your arms are slightly bent and
you can read the dials and instruments easily.
"" Make sure that you can comfortably reach the
top of the steering wheel.
"" Fasten your seat belt correctly ¢ page 230.
"" Keep both feet in the footwell so that you are in
full control of the vehicle at all times.
For detailed information on how to adjust the
driver's seat, see¢ page 54, Front seats.
A WARNING
A driver who is not sitting in the correct posi­
tion or who is not wearing a seat belt can be
fatally injured if the airbag is triggered.

following list shows just some examples of
incorrect sitting positions which can be danger­
ous to all occupants. The list is not complete, but
will help to make you aware of possible dangers
which can be avoided.
Therefore, whenever the vehicle is moving:
- Never stand up in the vehicle.
- Never stand on the seats.
- Never kneel on the seats.
- Never travel with the backrest reclined too far.
- Never lean against the dash panel.
- Never sit on the
front
edge of a seat.
- Never sit sideways.
- Never lean out of the window.
- Never put your feet out of the window.
- Never put your feet on the dash panel.
- Never put your feet on the seat cushion.
- Never ride in the footwell.
- Never travel on a seat without wearing the seat
belt.
- Never climb into the luggage compartment.
A WARNING
Sitting out of position increases the risk of se­
vere injuries.
- Sitting out of position exposes the occu­
pants to potentially fatal injuries if, for in­
stance, the airbags inflate and strike an oc­
cupant who is not seated in one of the prop­
er positions.
- Before starting a trip, sit in the correct posi­
tion and stay in this position as long as the
vehicle is moving. Make sure your passen­
gers are also sitting in the proper positions
and ensure that they remain correctly seat­
ed at all times ¢ page 54, Front seats.
Child seats
Safety notes for using child seats
To reduce the risk of injury in the event of an ac­
cident, children must always use child restraint
systems when travelling in the car.

the manufacturer's instructions and observe any
statutory requirements.
If you use a child seat on the passenger's seat, it
is most important to note the warnings ¢.&..
A WARNING
To avoid serious or fatal injury, children trav­
elling in the vehicle must always be protected
with child restraint systems appropriate to
their height, weight and age.
- Children under 1.50 m tall or younger than
12 must not travel in the vehicle if there are
no suitable child seats. Please observe any
other applicable regulations in the country
in which you are
travelling.
- Babies and children must never travel on an­
other occupant's lap.
- Never allow more than one child to occupy
one child seat.
- Never leave a child without supervision in a
child seat.
- Never allow a child to travel unrestrained or
to stand up or kneel on a seat while the car
is moving. In an accident, the child could be
catapulted through the car, causing possibly
fatal
injuries
to itself and other occupants.
- To ensure proper protection by the child re­
straint, it is important to wear the seat belts
in the correct position ¢ page 232. Always
check that the belt is properly positioned ac­
cording to the instructions provided by the
manufacturer of the child seat. Incorrectly
worn seat belts can give rise to injuries even
in a minor collision.
- If children are out of position when the car
is moving, they are at greater risk of injury
during a sudden braking manoeuvre or in an
accident. This is particularly the case if the
child is travelling on the passenger's seat
and the airbag system is triggered in an ac­
cident. This incorrect sitting position can re­
sult in serious or even fatal injury.
- Make sure there is sufficient clearance in
front of the child sitting in the child seat. If
necessary, adjust the seat position and
backrest angle of the seat in front of the
child seat.
