and the message appears, there are about 1.9
gal (7 L) of fuel left in the tank.

With gas-discharge lamps* (xenon head­
lights), the high-vo ltage component must

The light/rain sensor is malfunctioning.
The low
beams remain switched on at all times
for safety reasons when the light switch is in the
AUTO position. You can continue to turn the
lights on and off using the light switch. You can
still control all wiper functions that are inde­
pendent of the rain sensor.
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected.
; Damper control
App lies to: vehicles with Audi drive select
R Suspension: malfunction! You may continue
driving
There is an adaptive damper malfunction.
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized

Instruments and indicator lights
¢ Q Turn signals
If the. or B indicator light blinks, a turn sig­
nal is turned on. If both indicator lights are blink­
ing,
the emergency flashers are on.
In
an indicator light blinks twice as fast as usual,
then a turn signal bulb has failed. Replace the
bulb immediately.
CJ! 4f. Rear safety belt
Applies to: vehicles with rear safety belt detection
The respective indicator light will turn on briefly
when a safety belt on the rear seats is fastened
or unfastened.
f!l-If this indicator light turns on briefly, the
safety belt on the rear seat is not fastened.
II-If this indicator light turns on briefly, the
safety belt on the rear seat was fastened.
·-If this indicator light blinks, the safety belt
was unfastened while driving. Above a certain
speed, there will also be a warning tone.

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
System indicator light (MIL)
The system indicator light (MIL) Ill in the instru­
ment cluster is part of the On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD II).
The
warning/indicator light turns on when the ig­
nition is
switched on and turns off once the en­
gine is started and is running in idle at a stable
speed. This indicates that the MIL is functioning
correctly.
If the light does not turn off after starting the
engine or turns on while driving, this may indi­
cate there is a malfunction in the engine. If the
indicator turns on, the catalytic converter may be
damaged. ..,.

Windshield wipers
Switching the windshield wipers on

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
sponding position:

@-interval mode. To increase/decrease the wip­
er intervals , move
the switch @ to the left/right.
In vehicles with a rain sensor*, the wipers turn on
in the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds ap­
proximately 2 mph (4
km/h). The higher the sen­
sitivity
of the rain sensor* is set (switch @ to the
right),
the earlier the windsh ield wipers react to
moisture on the windsh ield. You can deact ivate
the rain sensor mode* in the Infotainment sys­
tem, which switches the intermittent mode on.
Select
in the Infotainment system: I MENU! bu t­
ton> Vehicle > left control button >Driver assis­
tance > Rain sensor > Off.

tion longer, the wipers switch from slow wiping
to fast wiping .

the windshield To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one af­
terwipe
after several seconds in temperatures
above
39 °F (4 °C). You can switch this function
off by moving the lever to position ® within 10
seconds after the afterwipe . The afterwipe func­
tion is reactivated the next time you switch the
ignition on.
Cleaning the headlights* . The headlight washer
system*
only functions when the lights are

switched on. The headlights are automatically

the first time and every fifth time the
lever is moved to position ® ·

- The rain sensor* is only intended to assist
the driver. The driver is still responsib le for
manually switching the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions .
- The windsh ield may
not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, and when
the sun is low, can cause in­
creased glare which increases
the risk of an
accident.

switching on and damage

wiper system .

Worn or dirty windshie ld wiper blades result
in streaking.

Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly .
- The washer fluid nozzles in
the windshield
washer system are heated*
at low tempera­
tures when
the ignition is on.
- When stopping
temporarily, such as at a
traffic light, the speed of the windshield
w ipers automatically reduces by one level.

Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the wiper blades when you see wiper
streaks.
Clean the wiper blades with a soft towel
and glass cleaner.

Installing the wiper blade
.,.. Insert the new wiper blade into the mount on

& WARNING
For safety reasons, the windshield wiper
blades should be replaced once or twice each
year.

- The windshie ld wiper blades must only be
folded away when in the service position!
Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on
the hood or the windshield wiper motor.

You should not drive your vehicle or press
the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away
from the windshield.
The windshield wipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield.
(j) Tips
-You can also use the service position, for ex­
ample,
if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover.
-
You cannot activate the service position
when
the hood is open.
Digital compass

-There is no vehicle stabilization when ESC/
ASR are switched off.
(D Tips
-When the cruise control system is switched
on, ESC/ ASR cannot be switched off or sport
mode cannot
be switched on.
- Malfunctions in the rear spoiler
or the Audi
magnetic ride may make
it impossible to
switch the ESC/ ASR off or to switch sport
mode on.
Brakes
New brake pads
New brake pads do not achieve their full braking
effect during the first 250 mi (400 km) . They
must be "broken in" first. However, you can com­
pensate
for the slightly reduced braking force by
pressing
firmly on the brake pedal. Avoid heavy
braking during the break-in period.
Wear
Brake pad wear depends largely on the way the
vehicle is driven and on operating conditions.
This is especially true
if you are driving frequently
in
the city and on curves or with a sporty driving
style.
Operating noise
Noises may occur when braking depending on the
speed, braking force and outside conditions such
as temperature and humidity.
Effect of water and road salt
In certain situations, for example after driving
through water, in heavy
rain, after overnight con­
densation
or after washing your car, the braking
effect can be reduced by moisture or ice on the
brake rotors and brake pads. The brakes
must be
"dried" first with a few careful brake applica­
tions.
At higher speeds and with the windshield wipers
turned
on, the brake pads press against the brake
rotors
for a short amount of time. This action
which is
not felt by the driver happens at regular
Intelligent Technology
intervals and facilitates a better reaction time for
the brakes in wet weather.
T
he braking effect can also be reduced if you are
driving on salted roads and you do
not apply the
brakes for Long periods of time. The Layer of salt
on the brake rotors and pads must be worn off
first when the brakes are applied.
Corrosion
Leaving the vehicle parked for Long periods of
time, Low mileage and avoiding heavy braking
can contribute
to corrosion on the brake rotors
and
dirty brake pads.
If you usually avoid heavy braking or ifthere is
corrosion present, occasiona l heavy braking
at
high speeds is recommended to clean the brake
rotors and
pads¢.&..
Brake system malfunction
if you notice that the brake pedal travel has sud­
denly gotten Larger, then a brake circuit may have
failed. Drive
to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to have
the problem corrected. On the way there, drive
with reduced speed and keep in mind that a Long
braking distance and increased pressure on the
brake pedal will be necessary.
Low brake fluid level
When the brake fluid Level is Low, malfunctions in
the brake system may occur. The brake fluid Level
is electronically monitored.
Brake booster
The brake booster amplifies the pressure you ap­
ply to the brake pedal. It only works when the en­
gine is running.
A WARNING

Care and cleaning
General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your vehi­
cle's value.
It can also be a requirement when
submitting warranty claims for corrosion damage
and
paint defects on the body .
The necessary care products
can be obtained
from your authorized Audi dealer. Read and fol­
low the instructions for use on the packaging.
A WARNING
-Using cleaning and care products incorrectly
can be dangerous to your health.
-Always store cleaning and care products out
of reach of children to reduce the risk of po i­
so
ning.
@ For the sake of the environment
- Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when buying cleaning agents.
-
Do not dispose of leftover cleaning and care
products
with household trash.
Car washes
The longer that deposits remain on the vehicle,
the more the surface may be damaged. High
temperatures such
as those caused by sunlight
increase the damag ing effect.
Before washing, ri
nse off heavy deposits with
plenty of water.
Stubb orn depos its such
as bird droppings or tree
sap are best removed with plenty of water and a
microfiber cloth.
Also, wash
the underside of your vehicle once
road
salt stops being used for the season.
Pressure washers
When washing your vehicles with a pressure
washer, always
follow the operating instructions
provided
with the pressure washer. This is espe­
cially
important in regard to the pressure and
spraying distance.
Do not direct the stream of
cleaning solution directly onto the side window
seals, doors, luggage
compartment lid or hood,

tires, rubber hoses, insulating material or sen­
sors *.
Keep a distance of at least 16 in (40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a pressure
washer.
Never use rotary nozzles
or high pressure noz­
zles.
The
water temperature must not be above 140 °F
(60 °().
Automatic car washes
Spray off the vehicle before washing.
M a
ke su re that the windows are closed and the
windshield wipers a re off. Follow instructions
from the car was h operato r, espec ially if there
a re accessories attached
to your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
b rushes.
Washing by hand
Clean the vehicle starting from the top and work­
ing down using a soft sponge or cleaning brush.
Use solvent-free cleaning products.
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint by
hand
To avoid damaging the paint when washing, first
remove dust and large particles from your vehi­
cle. Insects, grease spots and fingerprints are
bes t removed
with a special cleaner for matte
finish paint.
Apply th e p roduct using a microfiber cloth. To
avoid damagin g t he paint surface, do not use too
much pressu re.
Rinse the vehicle thorough ly with water. Then

an using a neutral shampoo and a soft micro ­
fiber cloth .

nse the vehicle thoroughly again and let it air
dry. Remove any water residue using a shammy.
A WARNING
-Only wash the vehicle when the ignition is
off and follow the instructions from the car
wash operator
