A WARNING
Whenever working on the ba ttery or on the
electrical system, there is the risk of injury,
accident and even fire. Read and heed the fol­
lowing
WARNINGS:
- Always wear eye protection. Do not let bat­
tery acid or any lead particles get on your
skin or clothing . Shield your eyes. Explosive
gases can cause blindness or other injury.
-
Battery acid contains sul furic acid. Sulfuric
acid
can cause blindness and severe burns.
- Always
wear gloves and eye protection. Do
not tilt the battery because acid could leak
out of the ventilation openi ngs.
- If you
get battery acid in your eyes or on
your skin, immediately rinse with cold wa­
ter for several minutes and get medical at­
tention.
-
If you should ingest any battery acid, seek
medical attention immediately.
-
Do not expose the battery to an open flame,
electric sparks or an open light.
-
Do not smoke.
-Do not interchange the positive and nega-
tive
cables.
-When working on the battery, be sure not to
short-circuit the terminals with tools or oth­
er metal objects. This would cause the bat­
tery to heat up very quickly, which could
lead to damage or explosion and personal
injury.
-
When a battery is charged, it produces hy­
drogen gas which is explosive and could
cause personal injury .
- Always keep
the battery well out of the
reach of children.
- Before work is
done on the electrical sys­
tem, disconnect the negative ground cable.
- Before
performing any work on the electri­
cal
system, switch off the engi ne and igni­
t i
on as well as any electrical equipment. The

negative cabl e on the battery m ust be dis­
connected. If you are just going to replace a
light bulb,
then it is enough to switch off
the lights.
- Before di
sconnecting the battery, switch off
the anti-theft alarm system! Otherwise you
w ill
set off the alarm.
-
When disconnecting the battery, first dis­
connect the negative cabl e and then the
positive cable.
- Before
reconnecting the battery, make sure
all electrical consumers are switched off.
Reconnect
the positive cable first and then
the negative cable. Never interchange the
cables -this could start a fire!
- Never
charge a frozen or a thawed-out bat­
tery. It cou ld explode! If a battery has fro ­
zen,
then i t must be replaced. A discharged
b attery can freeze ove r at 32 °F (O °C).
-Make sure the vent hose is always attached
to the opening on the side of the battery .
- Never
use batteries which are damaged.
There is th e danger of an exp losion! Always
replace a da maged battery .

otherwise, you will damage electronic
components in the e lectrical system.
-If your veh icle is going to stand for a long
period of time without being driven, protect
the battery from "freezing" , otherwise it
will be damaged and will then have to be re­
placed .

Battery replacement
The new battery must have the same specifica­
tions and dimensions as the original equipment
battery .
Intelligent energy management in your vehicle is
responsible for distributing the electrical energy
throughout your vehicle Q page 92. The intelli­
gent energy management system will keep the
engine battery charged better than vehicles with­
out this system. To make sure the additional
electrical energy is available once again after you
have
changed the battery, we recommend that
you install batteries of the same type and manu­
facture only (the same as those insta lled at the
time your vehicle was delivered). Specificat ions
are listed on the battery housing. Your author­
ized dealer must code the battery in the energy
management system to enable you to use the en­
ergy management functions correctly after re­
placing the battery.
The new
battery must have the same capacity,
voltage (12-volts) , amperage, construction and
plug sealing.
When installing the battery, make sure the igni­
tion and all electrical consumers are switched
off.
CD Note
Make
sure the ventilation hose on the side of
the battery is connected, otherwise fumes or
battery acid can leak out.
@ For the sake of the environment
Because
of the problem of proper disposal of
a battery, we recommend your authorized
Audi dealer change the battery for you. Bat­
teries contain sulfuric acid and lead and must
always be disposed of properly in compliance
with all
environmental regulations. Disposing
of vehicle batteries improperly is very danger­
ous to the environment.

The windshield washer reservoir W contains the
cleaning solution for the windsh ield and the
headlight washer system* Q page 238, fig. 184.
The reservoir capacity is found in Q page 299.
To reduce the risk of lime scale deposits on the
spray nozzles, use clean water with low amounts
of calcium. Always add window cleaner to the wa­
ter. When the outside temperatures are cold, an
anti-freezing
agent should be added to the water
so that it does not freeze .
CD Note
- The
concentration of anti-freezing agent
must be adjusted to the vehicle operating
conditions in the respective climate. A con­
centration that is too high can lead to vehi­
cle damage.
-Never add radiator anti-freeze or other addi­
tives to the washer fluid.
-
Do not use a glass cleaner that contains
paint solvents, because this can damage the
paint.

General information
.,.Check your tires regularly for
damage (punctures, cuts, cracks
and bulges). Remove foreign ob­
jects from the tire tread.
.,. If driving over curbs or similar
obstacles, drive slowly and ap­
proach the curb at an angle.

possible.
CD Note
-Please note that summer and
winter tires are designed for
the conditions that are typical
in those seasons. Audi recom­
mends using winter tires dur­
ing the winter months. Low
temperatures significantly de­
crease the elasticity of summ­
er tires, which affects traction

and braking ability. If summer
tires are used in very cold
temperatures, cracks can form
on the tread bars, resulting in
permanent tire damage that
can cause loud driving noise
and unbalanced tires.
-Burnished, polished or
chromed rims must not be
used in winter driving condi­
tions. The surface of the rims
does not have sufficient corro­
sion
protection for this and
could be permanently dam­
aged by road salt or similar
substances.

wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPM S
from functioning properly. Always check the
TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or
more ti
res or whee ls on your veh icle to ensure
that the replacement or alternate tires and
wheels
allow the TPMS to conti nue to functi on
p roper ly .
If the Tire Pressure Monitoring System
indicator appears
The tire pressure indicator in the instrument
cluster informs you if the tire pressure is too low
or
if there is a system malfunction.
Using the ABS sensors, th e tire p ressure monitor­
i n g
system compares the tire tread circumfer­
ence and vibra tion char
acteristi cs of the individ u­
al tires.
If the pressure changes in one or more
tires,
this i s indicated in the Infotainment system
d isp lay
with an ind icator light RI and a message .
If only one tire is affected , the location of that
tire will be ind icated.
The tire pressures must be stored in the Infotain­
ment system again each time the pressu res
change (switching between partial and full load
pressure) or
after changing or replacing a tire on
your veh icle ¢ page 269. The tire pressure moni­
toring system only monitors the tire pressure you
have stored. Refe r
to the tire pressure label for
the recommended tire pressure for your veh icl e
¢page260, fig.195.
Tire tread circumference and vibration character­
istics
can change and cause a tire pressure warn­
i n g if:
-
the tire p ressure in one or more tires is too low.
-
the tire has structural damage .
-
the tire was replaced or the tire pressure was
changed and
it was not stored¢ page 269.
-the spare tire* is installed .
Indicator lights

Check

about one minute and then stays on permanent­

-If the tire pressure indicator appears in the
display, reduce your speed immediately and
avoid any hard steering or brak ing maneu­
vers.
Stop as soon as poss ible and check the
tires and
their pressure .
- The driver is responsible
for maintain ing the
correct tire pressures . You must check the
tire pressures regularly .
-
Under certain condit ions (such as a sporty
driving style, wi
nter condit ions or unpaved
roads), the pressure
monitor indica tor may
be delayed.
-
Do not use run-flat tires on your vehicle . Us­
ing them when not perm itted can lead to
veh icle damage or accidents.

- The tire pressure monitoring system can al­
so stop working when there
is an ESC mal­
func tion.
-
Usi ng snow chains may result in a system
ma lfunction .
- The
tires wit h the identification "AO" or
"RO" ¢ page 2 5 7 have been matched with

Care and cleaning
General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your vehi­
cle's value.
It can also be a requirement when
submitting warranty claims for corrosion damage
and
paint defects on the body .
The necessary care products
can be obtained
from your authorized Audi dealer. Read and fol­
low the instructions for use on the packaging.
A WARNING
-Using cleaning and care products incorrectly
can be dangerous to your health.
-Always store cleaning and care products out
of reach of children to reduce the risk of po i­
so
ning.
@ For the sake of the environment
- Preferably use environmentally-friendly
products when buying cleaning agents.
-
Do not dispose of leftover cleaning and care
products
with household trash.
Car washes
The longer that deposits remain on the vehicle,
the more the surface may be damaged. High
temperatures such
as those caused by sunlight
increase the damag ing effect.
Before washing, ri
nse off heavy deposits with
plenty of water.
Stubb orn depos its such
as bird droppings or tree
sap are best removed with plenty of water and a
microfiber cloth.
Also, wash
the underside of your vehicle once
road
salt stops being used for the season.
Pressure washers
When washing your vehicles with a pressure
washer, always
follow the operating instructions
provided
with the pressure washer. This is espe­
cially
important in regard to the pressure and
spraying distance.
Do not direct the stream of
cleaning solution directly onto the side window
seals, doors, luggage
compartment lid or hood,

tires, rubber hoses, insulating material or sen­
sors *.
Keep a distance of at least 16 in (40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a pressure
washer.
Never use rotary nozzles
or high pressure noz­
zles.
The
water temperature must not be above 140 °F
(60 °().
Automatic car washes
Spray off the vehicle before washing.
M a
ke su re that the windows are closed and the
windshield wipers a re off. Follow instructions
from the car was h operato r, espec ially if there
a re accessories attached
to your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
b rushes.
Washing by hand
Clean the vehicle starting from the top and work­
ing down using a soft sponge or cleaning brush.
Use solvent-free cleaning products.
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint by
hand
To avoid damaging the paint when washing, first
remove dust and large particles from your vehi­
cle. Insects, grease spots and fingerprints are
bes t removed
with a special cleaner for matte
finish paint.
Apply th e p roduct using a microfiber cloth. To
avoid damagin g t he paint surface, do not use too
much pressu re.
Rinse the vehicle thorough ly with water. Then
cl e
an using a neutral shampoo and a soft micro ­
fiber cloth .
R i
nse the vehicle thoroughly again and let it air
dry. Remove any water residue using a shammy.
A WARNING
-Only wash the vehicle when the ignition is
off and follow the instructions from the car
wash operator
to reduce the risk of acci­
dents.

from sharp metal components when wash­
ing th e underbody or the inside of the wheel
housings.
- After
washing the vehicle, the brak ing effect
may be delayed due to moisture on the
brake rotors or ice in the w inter. The brakes
must be dried first w ith a few careful brake
applications.

-If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, yo u must retract the extendable rear
spoiler* if necessary, and fold the exterior
mirrors in to red uce the risk of damage.
Power folding exterior mirrors* must on ly

Care and cleaning
- To red uce the risk of damage to the surface,
do
not use insect removing sponges, kitchen
sponges or s imilar items.

Matte finish painted veh icle components:
-To reduce the risk of damage to the sur-
face, do not use polishing agents or hard
wax.
- Never u
se protective wax. It can destroy
the matte finish effect.
-
Do not place any stickers or magnetic
signs on vehicle parts painted with matte
finish paint. The paint could be damaged
when the stickers or magnets are re­
moved .
@ For the sake of the environment
Only wash the vehicle in facilities sp ec ia ll y de­
signed for that pu rpose. This will reduce the
risk of dirty water contamina ted with oil from
entering the sewer sys tem.

When cleaning and ca ring for individua l vehicle
components, refer to the follow ing tables. The
information contained there is simply recom ­
mendations. For q uestions or for components

A WARNING
The windshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions such as wetness, dark­
ness, or low sun can result in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possib le.
@ Note
-Headlights /tail lights
-Never clean headlights or tail lights with a
dry
cloth or sponge.
-Do not use any cleaning product that con­
tains a lcohol, because they could cause
cracks to form.
-Wheels
- Never use any paint polish or other abra-
sive materials.

-Damage to the protective layer on the
rims such as stone chips or scratches must
be repaired immediately.
-Doo r window s
-Remove snow and ice on windows and ex-
terior mirrors with a plastic scraper. To
avoid scratches, move the scraper only in
one direction a nd not back and forth.
- Neve r remove snow or ice from door win­
dows and mirrors us ing warm o r hot water

se this could cause cracks to form.
- To avoid damage to the rear window de­
fogger, do not apply any stickers on the
heating wires on the inside of the window.

must be free of dirt and dust before pol­

-Remove cosmetics and sunscreen immedi­
ately-these could damage the paint.
-In strument cluster
- Make sure that the instrument cluster is
switched off and has cooled off before
cleaning it.

methods because they could get
sc ratched.
- Make
sure no fluids enter the spaces be­
tween the instrument cluster and the
trim, because that could cause damage.
-Controls
- Make sure that no fluids enter the con-
trols, because this could cause damage.
-Safety belts
-Do not remove the safety belts to clean
them.
-Never clean safety belts or their compo­
nents chemically or with corrosive fluids
or
solvents and never allow sharp objects
to come into contact with the safety belts.
This could cause damage to the belt web­
bing.
-
If there i s damage to the webbing, the
connections, the retractors or the buckles,
have
them replaced by an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility.

Placing your vehicle out
of service
If you would like to take your vehicle out of serv­

longer time, contact your authorized
Audi
dealer or qualified repair facility. They will
advise you
of important measures, such as corro­

on protection, maintenance and storage proce ­
dures. Also follow the in formation about the bat­
