@ Tips
The informat ion in the Service Rem inder re­
mains stored even when the vehicle battery is
disconnected.
On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢..ift in the
instrument cluster is part of the On-Board Diag­
nostic (OBD II) system .
The warning/indicator light illuminates when the
ignition is switched on and goes out after the en­
gine starts and the idle has stabilized. This indi­
cates that the MIL is working properly .
If the light does not go out after the engine is
started, or illuminates while you are driving, a malfunction may exist in the engine system.
If
the light illuminates, the catalytic converter
could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoiding
sustained high speeds and/or rapid accelera­
tions) and have the condition corrected. Contact
your authorized Audi dealer.
If the light illuminates, the electronic speed lim­iter may also be malfunctioning. For more infor­
mation
¢ page 29, Electronic speed limiter.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate ¢
page 200.
Driver in forma tion system
On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the components
of your emission control system. Each monitored
component in your engine system has been as­
s igned a code. In case of a malfunction, the com­
ponent will be identified and the fault stored as a
code in the control module memory.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery system.
If the light illuminates after a refueling, stop the
vehicle and make sure the fuel f iller cap is prop­
erly closed
¢ page 200.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the stor­
ed data can only be displayed using special diag­
nostic equipment (gener ic scan tool for OBD).
In order to connect the special d iagnost ic equip­
ment, push the p lug into the Data L ink Connector
(DLC). The DLC is located to the right of the hood
release
¢ fig. 17.
Your authorized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop can interpret the code and perform the nec­
essary repair.
.&, WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for per­
sonal use. Incorrect usage can cause malfunc­
tions, which can increase the risk of a co lli­
sion!
Electronic speed limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equipped with tires
that are rated for a maximum speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). This is may be less than the maxi­
mum speed of your vehicle . To reduce the risk of .,.

Front passenger's exterior mirror tilt
function*
To help you see the curb when ba cking in to a
pa rking space , the surface of the mirror tilts
slightly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the posit ion for the front passenger's outs ide
mirror.
You can adjust the ti lted mi rror sur fa ce by turn­
ing the knob in the desired direction. When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is sto red and assigned to the
key yo u are using.
The mirror goes back into its o riginal position
once yo u drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or tu rn the ignition off .
A WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex or spherical *)
increase your f ield of view. Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
and fa rther away than when seen in a flat mir­
ror. If you use t his mirro r to est imate distan­
ces of following vehicles whe n cha ng ing
lanes, yo u co uld estimate incor rectly and
c ause an accident .
(D Note
-If the mir ror housing was moved by outs ide
fo rces (such as an impac t when maneuver­
in g), y ou must use the powe r fo ldi ng func­
tion to fold the mirro r all the way out . The
mirror housing must not be moved back in ­
to place by hand beca use this would impa ir
the function of the m irror mechanism.
- If you wash the ve hicle in an automatic car
wash, yo u m ust fold the exte rior m irrors i n
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.

Electrolyte f luid can leak from automa tic di m­
ming mi rrors if the glass is broken . Electro­
lyte fl uid can irritate s kin, eyes and respirato ­
ry system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to electro­
lyte ca n cause irritation to the respiratory
system, especially among people with asth­ ma or other respiratory conditions . Get
fresh air immediately by leaving the vehicle
or, if that is not possible, open windows a nd

is reactivated the next t ime the ignit io n is switch­
ed on.
allroad: The rear wiper automatically switches on
when the reverse gear is engaged and the fro nt
windsh ie ld w ipers are on and in operation .

A WARNING
- T he rain senso r is only intended to assist the
dr iver. The driver is still responsib le for
man ua lly switching the wipers on accord ing
to the visibility conditions.
- T he windshie ld may not be treated wi th wa­
ter -repell ing windsh ield coa ting agents . Un­
favorable conditions, s uch as wetness, dark­
ness, low sun, can result in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possible .

-In the case of frost, check whether the
w indshield wiper blades are frozen to the
w indshield. Switching on the w indshield
w ipers can damage the w iper blades!
- Pr ior to using a car wash, the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched off (lever in
position @). This helps to prevent un inten­
tional switch ing on and damage to the
w indshield wiper system .
(D Tips
-The windshie ld w ipers are switched off
when the ig nit ion is turned off . Act ivate the
w indshield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the w indshield
w iper lever to a ny position.
- Worn or dirty windshie ld w iper blades resu lt
in st reaking. This can affect the rain sensor*
function. Che ck your w indshield w iper
blades reg ularly.
- T he washer f luid noz zles of the w indshie ld
washer system a re heated at low tempera­
t u res when the ign ition is on .
- When s topping tempo rar ily, (e .g . at a t raf­
fic ligh t) the set speed of the winds hield
wipers is a utomatically reduced by one
speed .
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshie ld wipe r blades when they be­
gin to leave st reaks. Use a soft cloth and gla ss
cleaner to clean the windshield wiper blades.

Climate control system
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the veh icle inter ior. It
is the most effective when the windows and sun ­
roof are closed. If there is a build-up of heat in­
side the vehicle, ventilation can help to speed up
the cooling process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost, the
b lower only switches to a higher speed once the
engine coolant has reached a certain tempera­
ture .
Condensat ion from the cooling system can drip
and form a puddle of water under the veh icle.
This is normal and does not mean there is a leak.
P ollutant filt er
The pol lutant filte r removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the a ir.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the intervals specif ied in your Warranty
& Mainte­
nance booklet, so that the a ir cond it ione r can
properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air pollut ion, the filter may need to be changed
more frequently than specified i n your Aud i War­
ranty
& Maintenance booklet. If in doubt, ask
your author ized Audi Service Advisor for advice.
Ke y cod ed setting s
The climate control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use .
.8, WARNING
Reduced visib ility is dangerous and can ca use
accidents.
- For safe dr iv ing it is very impo rtan t that all
windows be free of ice, snow and condensa­
t ion .

- Complete ly familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating and
ventilation system and espec ially how to de­
fog and defrost the wi ndows .
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer sys­
tem in freezing weather until you have
warmed the windshield first, using the heat­ ing and vent ilation system. The washer solu­
tion may freeze on the windshield and re­
duce visibi lity.
(D Note
- If you suspect that the air conditioner has
been damaged, sw itch the system off to
avoid further damage and have it inspected
by a q ualified dealership.
- Repa irs to the Aud i air cond itioner requ ire
special techn ica l know ledge and spec ial
tools. Contact an a uthorized Audi dealer fo r
assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reduc ing the amo unt of fuel you use, you
also reduce the amount of pollutants emitted
into the a ir.
(D Tips
- Keep t he a ir intake slots (in front of the
windshield) free from ice, snow and debr is
in orde r to maintain the prope r funct ion of
the climate control system .
- The energy management sys tem may sw itch
the seat heating* o r rea r window defroster
off temporarily. These systems are available
again as soon as the energy balance has
been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing on
the luggage compartment cover, ensure
that the openings are not covered.

Automatic transmissio n
A WARNING
-Always adapt your driving to the traffic flow.
- Only use the Launch Control Program when road and traffic conditions allow it and oth­
er drivers will not be endangered or an­
noyed by your driving and the veh icle's ac­
celeration .
- Please note that the dr iving wheels can spin
and the vehicle can break away whe n sport
mode/offroad mode is switched on, espe­
ci al ly when the road is slippery.
- Once you have accelerated, you should
switch spo rt mode/off road mode off by
pre ssing the
l.$ OFFI b utton .
@ Tips
- The transmiss ion temperature may increase
s ignificantly after us ing the Launch Con trol
P rogram. If that happens, the p rogram may
not be available for a few minutes. It w ill be
available again after a cool-down period.
- When a ccele rating using the Lau nch Control
program, all veh icle parts are subject to
heavy loads . This can resul t in inc reased
wear .
Transmission malfunction
Applies to veh icles: w ith multitronic/5 tronic/tiptronic
rm Transmission: P ress brake pedal and select
gear again.
Press the brake pedal and se lect the des ired se ­
lector lever position again. You can then continue
driving .
rm Transmission overheating: Please drive con­
s e rv atively .
The transm ission tempe rature has increased s ig­
n ifican tly due to the spo rty d riv in g manne r. D rive
i n a less sporty ma nner until the temperature re­
turns to the normal range and the indica tor ligh t
switches of.
rm Transmi ssion malfunction: You can continue
driving
There is a system malfunct ion in the transm is­
sion . You may continue driving . D rive to your au-

fun ctionality
There is a system malfunction in the transmis­
s io n. The transm ission is switc hing to eme rgency
mode. This mode only s hift s into ce rtain gears or
will no longer sh ift a t all. The eng ine may sta ll.
Drive to your authori zed A udi dealer or qualified
repair facility immediate ly to have the ma lfunc­
t ion co rrected .
rm ffl Transmi ssion malfunction: No rever se
You can continue driving
S tronic transm iss ion: The re is a sys tem ma lfunc­
tion in t he transm ission. The tr ansmission is
swi tching to emergency mode. This mode o nly
shi fts into certain gears or w ill no longer sh if t at
a ll. T he engine may stal l. You cannot engage the
reverse gear. Dr ive to your authorized Audi dea ler
or qualified repair facility immediately to have
the malfunct ion corrected.
DD Tran smission malfunction: Stop vehicle and
shift to pa rk.

Parking System
swings out more than the vehicle rear. Main­
tain plenty of distance from an obstacle so
that your outside mirror or a corner of your
vehicle does not collide with any obstacles -
danger of accident!

The left or right orientation lines and surfaces
will be displayed, depending on the turn sig­
nal being used.
Adjusting the display and warning tones
Applies to vehicles: w ith parking system (rear, with rear view
camera)
The display and warning tones ore adjusted in
the radio or MMI*.

.. Select: ICARI function button> Car systems*
control button > Driver assist > Parking aid.
Display
- Off -when the parking system is switched on,
only audible signals are given.
-On -when the parking system is switched on,
the picture from the rear view camera is dis­
played.
Warning tones
- Rear volume -
rear sensor volume
-Rear frequency -rear sensor frequency
-Music volume while parking -when the park-
ing system is switched on, the volume of the
active audio source is lowered.
The newly adjusted value is briefly heard from
the signal generator. The settings are automati­
cally stored and assigned to the remote control
key.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that the volume and fre­ quency of the warning tones is adjusted so
that you can easily hear the acoustic dis­
tance signal even if the radio is playing, the
air-conditioner blower is on High or there is
a high level of outside noise.

- Check the settings whenever someone else
has driven the vehicle before you.
@ Tips
-The warning tones can also be adjusted di­
rectly from the rear view camera image.
Simply press the Settings* control button.
- Changed settings are activated when park­
ing assist is switched on again.
Error messages
Applies to vehicles: with parking system (rear, with rear view
camera)
If a warning tone is audible for about five sec­
onds when you turn on the ignition, there is a
malfunction in the system. Have the problem
corrected by your authorized Audi dealer .
Keep the sensors in the rear bumper clean and
free from ice so that the acoustic park assist sys­
tem can function properly.

Driving safety
• Fasten your safety be lt and wear it properly . Al­
so instruct your passengers to fasten their safe­
ty belts properly

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of
the vehicle, the driver as well as the driver 's abili­
ty to concentrate on the rood without being dis ­
tracted .
The driver is responsible for the safety of the ve­
h icle and all of its occupants. If your ability to
drive is impaired, safety risks for everybody in the
veh icle increase and you also become a hazard to
everyone else on the road
Q ,&. . Therefore :
• Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers
or by using a cellular telephone .
• NEVER drive when your driving ability is im­
paired (by medications, alcohol, drugs, etc.) .
• Observe all traff ic laws, rules of the road and
speed limits and plain common sense .
• AL WAYS ad just you r speed to road, traffic and
weathe r cond itions.
• Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not d rive
for more than two ho urs at a stretch .
• Do NOT drive when you are tired, under pres ­
s u re or when you are stressed .
A WARNING
Impaired driv ing safety increases the risk of
ser ious personal injury and death whe never a
vehicle is being used .

Proper seating position for the driver
The proper driver seating position is important
for safe, relaxed driving.

For your own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an acc ident, we recommend
that you adjust the drive r's seat to the following
pos ition:
• Ad just the driver's seat so that you can easily
push the pedals all the way to the floor while
keeping your knee(s) slightly bent

• Ad just the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position so that your back comes in
full contac t with it when you dr ive.
• Ad just the steer ing wheel so that t here is a d is­
t ance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between the
steer ing whee l and your breast bone

If not possible, see your authorized A udi dealer
about adaptive equipment.
• Ad just the steering wheel so that the steering
wheel and airbag cover points at your chest and
not at yo ur face .
• Grasp the top of the steer ing wheel with your
elbow(s) sligh tly bent.
• App lies to veh icles with adjustable hea d re­
s trai nts: Adjus t the head restraint so the upper
edge is as even as possible with the top of your
head . If that is not possible, try to ad just the
head restraint so that it is as close to this pos i­
tion as possible .
• Fasten and wear safety belts correctly
