Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev­
olutions per minute (RP/11).
The beginning of the red zone in the tachometer
indicates the maximum permitted engine speed
for all gears once the engine has been broken in
and when it is warm. You should select the "D/
S" (Drive) selector lever position or take your foot
off the accelerator pedal before reaching this
area .
It is best to avoid high engine speeds, even when
driving in tiptronic mode

Vehicles with plug-in hybrid drive* have a power
meter instead of a tachometer. A digital tachom­
eter can be displayed in the driver information
system

The distance driven is shown in miles "mi" or kilo­
meters "km" . The measurement units (miles

I kilometers "km") can be changed in the
MMI. For more information, refer to your MMI
operating instructions .
Odometer/trip odometer
@-The odometer shows the total distance that
the vehicle has been driven .
®-The trip odometer shows the distance that
the vehicle has been driven since the last time
the tr ip odometer was reset . It can be used to
measure short distances. The last digit indicates
1/ 10 m iles or 100 meter increments.
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by press­ ing the
10.01 button c::;, page 10, fig. 3.
Malfunction indicator
If there is a malfunction in the instrument clus­
ter,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer display.
Have the malfunction corrected as soon as possi­
ble.

- When you switch off the ignition or open
the driver's door, the odometer is displayed

Outside temperature display

The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the driver information system.
This protects the engine from overheating.
The engine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have released the accelerator ped­
al once.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the
[m indicator
light also turns on. Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam­
ple when downshifting. Drive to an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility im­
mediately to have the malfunction corrected.
~ Engine oil level (min .)
II Check oil level
You may continue driving for the time being.
Check the engine oil level as soon as possible
¢page 240.
-If the engine oil level is too low, add engine oil
qpage242.
- If the engine oil level is correct and the indica­
tor light still turns on, drive at low engine
speed to an authorized Audi dealer or author­

The headlights only work when the ignition is
sw itched on . The headlights turn off automati­
cally when the engine is switched on or when the
ignit ion is switched off . Only the side-marker
lights stay on .
A warning symbol w ill appear in the driver infor­
mat ion disp lay if the system is not functioning
correctly ¢page 25.

ing and acce lerating so that the headlights do
not cause g la re for oncoming traffic .
Audi adaptive light*
The adaptive light only functions when the ligh t
swi tch is in the AU TO pos it ion. Yo u can de activate
adaptive ligh t in the M MI

Lights and Vision
.,. Press the~ button to switch the emergency
flashers on or off.
You can indicate a lane change or a turn whe n the
emergency f lashers are sw itched on by using the
turn signal lever. The emergency flashers stop
temporarily .
The emergency flashers also work when the igni ­
tion is turned off.

if:
- You are the last car in a traff ic jam so that
a ll other vehicles appro ach ing from be hind
can see yo u, or if
- You r vehicle has bro ke n down or you are
having an eme rgency, or if

Turn signal and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight fla sher.

" Always read and follow the instructions prov id­
ed by the roof rack manufacturer when instal­
ling the roof rack system .
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the roof,
you must observe the followi ng:
- Only use roof racks approved for your vehicle.
These approved roof racks are the basis for a
complete roof rack system. Additional attach­
ments o r carrier systems are needed to trans­
po rt luggage and sports equ ipment. We recom­
mend using roof racks from the Aud i orig inal
accessor ies program.
- When ins tall ing the roof rack, make sure it is
o nly mounted on the designated locations on
the roof

- We recommend that you keep the installation
inst ruct ions for your roof rac k system togethe r
with yo ur Ow ner's li teratu re in the vehicle.

When should th e roof rack be removed?
- Before goi ng through an automatic car wash (it
is best to ask the car wash operator for advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fuel consumpt ion,
w ind no ise and to g uard aga inst theft.
_& WARNING
- Use of an unapproved roof rack or incorrect
mounting of an approved roof rack can
cause the roof rack or the items attached to
it to fall off the roof onto the road.
- Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle can
cause a crash and personal injury.
- On ly mount the roof rack on the designated
locations on the roof

- The roof rack system must be insta lled ex­
actly according to the i nstr uctions provided.
- When drivi ng with a roof rack system,
changes to the center of gravity and wind
resistance can change the vehicle handling
and lead to a co llision. Always adapt yo ur
driving and your speed to the current condi­
tions.

- Your vehicle warranty does not cove r any
damages to the vehicle caused by using roof
racks or mounting structures not approved
by Audi for yo ur vehicle . The same applies to
damage resulting from incorrect roof rack
ins tallation.
- Always check the roof rack mountings and hardwa re before each trip and du ring a t rip
to ma ke sure eve ry t hing is securely tight­
ened. If necessa ry, retighte n the mountings
and che ck the entire sys tem from time to
t ime.
- After mou nting a roof rac k system, o r when
yo u transport ob jects on the roof o f your
ve­
hicle, the he ight of the vehicle is natura lly
increased. Be careful when driving under
low bridges or in parking garages for exam­
ple. This could cause damage to the load
and
even the vehicle itself.
- Make sure the open rear lid and the sun­
roof" do not come into contact w it h the roof
rack.

The functions described below activate automati­
cally depending on the driving style.
Full acceleration (boost)
The boost funct ion is act ivated by pressing the
accelerator pedal farther down (kick-down). The

vehicle is powered by both the gasoline eng ine
and the e lectric motor when in fu ll acce leration.
Boost is only ava ilable for a short time because it
uses a large amount of energy. Availability de ­
pends on the high-voltage battery charge level.
Coasting
The gasoline engine switches off and disengages
at speeds up to approximate ly 112 mph
(180 km/h) if the acce lerator pedal is not press­
ed and the D position is selected. Driving conser­
vatively like this can reduce fuel consumption .
Energy recovery (recuperation)
When braking, the electric motor will act as a
generator creating electric energy that is then
stored in the high-voltage battery . This also oc­
curs when the vehicle is coasting or driving down­
hill.
If the brakes are applied early and evenly, the electric motor w ill brake the vehicle @
¢page 101 , fig. 88. By doing this , a large
amount of the kinetic energy is recovered and
may be stored as e lectric energy in the high -volt ­
age battery . The conventional brakes are also ac­
tivated when the brakes are pressed very hard.
The strength of recuperation can depend on the
following factors:
- If you are in tiptronic mode

- If the sport driving mode 5 was selected.

-To reduce the risk of overheating during op­
eration, do not place the Audi e-tron charg­
in g system in d irect sunlight for long peri­
ods of time.
- If the temperature inside the control unit
rises above 176 °F (80 °C), the charg ing
process will stop automatically until the
temperature decreases back down to the normal range .
