Lights and Vision
Instrument illumination
The brightness of the instrument cluster and the
center console can be adjusted .

Requirement: the light must be switched on.
~ Press the knob to release it .
~ Turn the knob toward"-" or"+" to reduce or in­
crease the brightness.
~ Press the knob again to return it to its original
position.
(D Tips
The needles and gauges in the instrument cluster illuminate when the headlights are off
and the ignition is switched one. The illumina­
tion reduces automatically and eventually
turns off as brightness outside decreases.
This function reminds the driver to turn the
headlights on at the appropriate time.

Turn the knob to the desired position:

Front passenger's exterior mirror tilt
function*
To help you see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts
slightly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger's outside mirror.
You can adjust the tilted mirror surface by turn­ ing the knob in the desired direction . When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) or turn the ignition off.
.&, WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex) enlarge the
field of vision. However, they make objects in the mirror appear smaller and further away.
Your may estimate incorrectly when you use
these mirrors to gauge your distance from the
vehicles behind you when changing lanes -ac­
cident risk!
(D Note
- Applies to vehicles with power folding out­
side mirrors*: if the mirror housing was
moved by outside forces (such as an impact
when maneuvering), you must use the pow­ er folding function to fold the mirror all the
way out. You will hear a loud noise when the
mirrors are latched back in place. The mirror
housing must not be moved back into place
by hand because this would impair the func­
tion of the mirror mechanism.

Power seat adjustment
Applies to vehicles: with power adjustable seats

@-moving the seat up/down : press the button
up/down. To adjust the front seat cushion, press
t he fron t button up/down. To adjust the rear seat
cushion, press the rear button up/down .

© -adjusting the backrest angle : press the but­
ton forward/back.
@ -lengthening/shortening the upper thigh sup­
port* : lift the grip handle.
A WARNING
- Only adjust the front seat with when the ve­
hicle is stationary. Otherwise, this increases
the risk of an accident
- The power adjustment for the front seats al­
so works with the ignition switched off or
with the ignition key removed. For this rea­
son, children should never be left unattend­
ed in the vehicle - they could be injured!
- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height. Unsupervised or careless seat ad­
justment can pinch fingers or hands causing
injuries .
- The front seat backrests must not be re­
clined too far back when driving, because
this impairs the effectiveness of the safety
belts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of injury.
Seats and storage
-To reduce the risk of injury during sudden
braking or in a collision, the driver and front
passenger should not have their backrests in
the reclined position while driving or riding .
The safety belts and airbag system can pro­
vide the greatest protection possible when
the backrests are in the upright position and
the safety belts are worn correctly. The
more a backrest is reclined, the greater the
risk of injury due to an incorrect seating po­
sition and safety belt position.
Front center armrest
Applies to vehicles: with front center a rm rest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several
l e ve ls.

.,. To bring the armrest back down, raise it out of
the top notch and fold it back down. Then
lift
the armrest to the desired position, if necessa­
ry.
Please note that the driver 's ability to move his or
arm may be restricted when the armrest is folded
down. Because of this, the armrest should not be
folded down during city driving .
The armrest can slide forward and back.
There is a storage compartment under the arm­
rest .

Removing the head restraints

Installing the head restraints
To install the head restraints , the backrest must

A WARNING
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat . Install the head restraint again imme­
diately once the child seat is removed. Driv­

Cigarette lighter

.,. Remove the cigarette lighter when it pops out.
The cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source when it is absol utely necessary.
A WARNING
The cigarette lighter only works when the ig­
ni tion is switched on. Inco rrect usage can lead
to serious inj uries or burns. To reduce the ris k
of injuries, never leave children unattended in
the vehicle with the vehicle key .
(D Note
- To red uce the risk of damage to the sockets,
only use plugs that fit correctly .
- T he ciga rette lighte r socket should only be
used as a powe r source fo r electr ical acces­
sories for a short pe riod of time. The sock­
ets* in the vehicle should be used for longe r
use of power supply .
(D Tips
The vehicle battery dra ins when accessories
are tu rned on but the engine is off.

The 12 volt socket can be used for electrical ac­ cessories. The power consumption at the outlet
m ust not exceed 120 watts.
A WARNING
The socket works only when the ignition is
switched on. Incorrect usage can lead to seri­
ous injur ies or burns. To reduce the risk of in­
jur ies, never leave children unattended in the
vehicle with the vehicle key.
(D Note
- To prevent damage to the socket, only use
the correct type of plugs.

- Never connect devices that generate electri­
cal power such as solar pane ls or a battery
charger to the 12 vo lt socket. They can dam­
age the vehicle e lectrica l system.
(D Tips
The vehicle battery drains when accessories
are turned on but the eng ine is off.

A WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can increase the risk of acci­
dents and injuries.
- Never drive with containers that contain hot
liquid such as coffee or tea. The hot liquid
could spill and cause burns during a colli­
sion, sudden braking or other vehicle move­
ment. Spilled hot liquid can also increase
the risk of accidents and injuries.
- Only use soft containers in the cup holders .
Hard cups and glasses can increase the risk
of injury during a collision.
- Never use the cup holder or the adapter as
an ashtray - this is a fire hazard.
(D Note
Beverage containers in the cup holders should
always have a lid . Otherwise, beverages could
spill and cause damage to vehicle equipment
or stain the seat covers.
Glove compartment

Opening/closing
.. To open the glove compartment, pull the han­
dle in the direction of the arrow.

upward until it clicks into place .
The glove compartment can be locked using the
vehicle key .
A WARNING
Always leave the lid on the glove compart­
ment cover closed while driving to reduce the
risk of injury.
Seats and storage
Additional storage compartments
There are additional storage compartments,
compartments and holders at other locations in
the vehicle:
- In the upper part of the glove compartment.
- In the center console under the center arm -
rest* .
- On the back of the right front seat . The com­
partment* can hold a maximum weight of 2 lbs
(1 kg) .
- Garment hooks on the B -pillar

A WARNING ,~ -- Do not place any objects on the instrument
panel. Objects that are not stored securely
can slide around in the vehicle while driving ,
when accelerating or braking or when turn­
ing.
- Make sure that objects cannot fall out of the
center console storage compartment or oth­
er compartments and into the footwell
while driving. These objects could prevent
you from braking or accelerating during
sudden braking maneuvers.
- Garments hung on the hooks must not ob­
struct the driver's view . The garment hooks
are only designed for light objects. Do not hang any garments with hard, sharp or
heavy objects in the pockets on the garment
hooks . These objects could injure vehicle oc­
cupants during sudden braking or in a colli­
sion -especially if the airbags deploy .
-Always keep the glove compartment closed
while driving to reduce the risk of injury dur­
ing a collision or heavy braking .
- Read and following the WARNINGS in
¢ page 204, Important safety instructions
on the side airbag system.
- Hang garments so that they do not obstruct
the driver's view .
- The garment hooks should only be used for
light articles of clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp-edged objects in the pockets
that could interfere with the side airbags
unfolding and cause injuries in the event of
a collision.

Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
Different systems could be installed.
- manual climate control system* or
- automatic climate control system*
- Plug-in hybrid drive* climate control

The climate control system* cools and removes
humidity from the air in the vehicle interior. It is
the most effective when the windows and panor­
ama sunroof* are closed.
If there is a build-up of
heat inside the vehicle, ventilation can help to
speed up the cooling process. For this reason, the
windows and panorama sunroof can be opened from the outside .

Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the air .
Key recognition
You can store various settings for the manual and
automatic
climate control system* and assign
them to the key being used.
A WARNING
Poor visibility can lead to accidents.
- For safer driving, keep all windows free of
ice, snow and fog.
- Become familiar as quickly as possible with
the correct use and function of the cl imate
control system, especially with the defrost­
ing and defogg ing function.
- When the temperature is below freezing,
only use the windshield washer system after

the windshield has been warmed by the cli­
mate control system. The washer fluid could
freeze on the windshield and impair visibili­
ty.
Cl) Note
- If you suspect that the climate control sys­
tem is damaged, switch the system off to
prevent further damage and have it checked
by an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility.
- Repairs to the Audi climate control system
require special technical knowledge and
special tools. See an authorized Aud i dealer
or authorized Aud i Service Facility .
@ For the sake of the environment
Reducing the amount of fuel used also re­
duces the amount of pollutants that enter the
air.
(D Tips
- To prevent interference with the heating
and cooling output and to prevent the win­
dows from fogging over, the a ir intake in
front of the windshie ld must be free of ice,
snow or leaves.
- Condensation from the cooling system* can
dr ip and form a puddle of water unde r the
vehicle. This is norma l and does not mean
there is a leak.
- Th e energy management system may switch
the seat heating* or rear window defroster
off temporarily. These systems are available
again as soon as the energy supply has been
restored.
- The f lows through the vents under the rear
window. Make sure the openings are not
covered when placing clothing on the lug­
gage compartment cover .

- The seat is damp or wet.
A WARNING
Individua ls with reduced sensitivity to pain or
temperature could develop burns when using
the seat heating function. To reduce the risk
of injury, these individuals should not use
seat heat ing .
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements in
the seats, do not kneel on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat.
(D Tips
- The setting for the seat heating on the driv­
er's side is ass igned to the key that is in use .
- If the front passenger 's seat heat ing is
turned on, it will not turn on again automat­
ically if more than 10 m inutes have passed
between sw itch ing the ign ition off and
switch ing it on again.
Auxiliary heater
A pp lies to vehicles: with diesel e ng in e
In cool outside temperatures, the electr ic auxi li­
ary heater helps the vehicle interior to wa rm
mo re quickly. The a uxiliary heater swi tches on
and off automatically accord ing to the vehicle
heating settings.
The "auxiliary heater " function can be sw itched
on and off in the MMI. Select: the
I MENU I button
> Car > S ystem s* contro l but ton > AC > Au xilia ry
heat er (fuel ).

Engine preheater

T he engine preheater s lowly warms the engine
coolant using a heating element when the vehicle
is parked. For this function, the cable provided
must be connected to a 120 Volt socket that is
protected from water and t hat is grounded a nd
equipped with a GFI circu it breaker, for example
in a ga rage. The engine reaches operating tem­
perature much more quickly afte r sta rting when
t h e coolant is preheated . This reduces fuel con­
s u mption and exha ust emissions dur ing the
warm-up phase.
Preheat ing the engine can take up to 3 hours de­
pend ing on the temperature o utside.
Connecting the engine preheat er
- Only use the connector cable provided and a
suitable extension cord, if necessary .
- All cables and connectors that are used must not be damaged
~ li::,. .
-Open the cover(!).
- Plug the connector cable into the socket @.
- If necessary, plug the connector cable into the
extension cord. Only use highly durab le exten­
sion co rds that are class 12 or better and can
be properly grounded to a three-prong wall
socket with a GFI circuit breaker and that are
not longe r than 100 feet (30 meters) .
- Plug the connector cable or extension cord into
a grounded 120 Volt wall socket that is pro­
tected by a GFI circuit breaker and that is pro­
tected against rain and other moisture. Never p lug the engine preheater into a conventiona l .._

hands in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
t ions to reduce the risk of injury if the airbag
deploys.
- Never hold the steer ing whee l in the

nificantly incr eas es the risk of inju ry to the

whe n starting the engine in diesel veh icles in
colder temperatu res. Therefore, yo u must hold
t h e b rake pedal down until the eng ine starts . T he
i ndicato r ligh t turns on wh ile the engine is pre­
heating

The preheating time depends on the coolant
temper ature and o utside temperature. The glow

1 second when the engine is warm or

means you can start the engine
