nal is also given.

-Always observe the warnings in
¢ page 203, before open ing the hood and
checking the brake fluid.
- Driving with low brake fluid is a safety haz­
ard. Stop the car and get professional assis­
tance .
- If the
1111 (USA models)/ . (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicato r light turns on to­
gethe r with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regu lating function may
have fa iled . Functions that stabilize the ve ­
hicle are no longer available . Th is could
cause the vehicle to swerve and increase the ris k of sliding . Stop the car and get profes­
sional ass is tance.
- If the brake warning/indicator ligh t does
not go out afte r a few seconds and the par k­
ing brake i5 relea5ed, or light5 up wh ile you
are driving, the fluid level in the brake fluid
reservoir is too low. If yo u be lieve that it is
safe to do so, proceed immediately at low
speed to the nearest authorized Audi dealer
or qualif ied repa ir facility and have the
brake system inspected.
- Always keep in m ind that after several brake
applications, you w ill need greater pressure
on the b rake pedal to stop your veh icle . Do
not rely on strained brakes to respond with
maximum stopp ing power in cr itical s itua­
tions. You must a llow for increased brak ing
distances. The extra dist ance used up by
fading bra kes co uld lead to an accident.
PARK/ C®) Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors the elec ­
tromechanical parking brake .
If the indicator light -(USA models) •
(Canada mode ls) t urns on , the park ing brake was
set .

Lights and Vision
-In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference between the inside and outs ide. They will
clear short ly after sw itching them on. This
does not affect the service life of the light­ i ng.
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering column
is used to operate the turn signals and the high
beam as well as the headlight flasher.

• Move the lever briefly until you meet resistance
and release it to flash three t imes.
• Move the lever (up or down) until you meet re­
s istance and hold it there to determine the
flashing time for the tu rn signals.

• Push the lever forward to switch on the high
beam (veh icles with high beam assist*
c:> page44).
• Pull the lever back towards you to sw itch off
the h igh beam.

• Pull the lever toward the steering wheel to use
the headlight flasher.

A camer a on the rearv iew mirror mou nt can de­
tect light sources from other road users. The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
o n the positio n of vehicles driving ahead and on­
coming vehicles, the vehicle speed and other en ­
vironmental and traffic cond itions.
Activ ating headlight assistant
Requirement: the AUTO light sw itch posit ion
must be selected and t he headlight assistant
must be sw itched on in the Infotainment system
c:> page45. "'

~ To activate the headlight assistant, tap the lev ­
er forward (!). The
112 indicator light appears
in the instrument cluster disp lay and the head­
light assistant is switched on/off automatically .
The
El indicator light also turns on if the high
beams are switched on .
Switching the high beams on/off manually
If the high beams did not switch on/off automat­
ically as expected, you may switch them on or off
manually instead:
~ To switch the high beams on manually, tap the
l ever forward (!). The
El indicator light turns
on.
~ To switch the high beams off manually, pull the
lever back@. The headlight assistant is deacti­
vated .
Operating the headlight flasher
~ To operate the headlight flasher when the
headlight assistant is activated and h igh beams
are switched off, pull the lever back@. The
headlight assistant remains active .
Messages in the instrument cluster display
r!IJ Audi adaptive light: system fault!
Headlight assist: System fault
Drive to an authorized Aud i dealer or authorized
Aud i Service Facility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected. You can still switc h the
high beams on or off manually.
Headlight assist: Unavailable. No camera view
The camera view is blocked, for example by a
sticker or debris.
The sensor is located between the interior rear­
view mirror and the windshield. Therefore, do not p lace any st ickers in this area on the windshie ld.
A WARNING
Headlight ass istant is only intended to assist
the driver . The dr iver is still responsible for
controll ing the headlights and switching
them manually depending on light and visibil­
i t y cond itions.
It may be necessary to operate
them manually in situations such as:
Lights and Vision
-In adverse weather conditions such as fog,
heavy rain, blowing snow or spraying water.
- On roads where oncoming traffic may be
partially obscured, such as expressways.
- When there are road users that do not have
suff icient lighting, such as b icyclers or
veh icles with dirty tail lamps.
- In tight curves and on steep slopes.
- I n poorly lit areas.
- With strong reflectors, such as signs.
- If the area of the w indshield near the sensor
is fogged over, dirty, icy or covered with a
sticker.
Adjusting the exterior lighting
The settings are adjusted in the MMI .
~ Select: !CAR ! function button> (Car) " systems
control button > Vehicle settings> Exterior
lighting .
Automatic headlights
You can adjust the following settings in the Au­
tomatic headlights
menu:
Headlights activation time -You can adjust if the
headlights switch on
Early , Med . or Late accord­
ing to the sensit ivity of the light sensor.
Audi adaptive light* -You can switch adaptive
light
On and Off .
Automatic high beams*
You can switch t he h igh beam assist on and off.
Daytime running lights
USA models:
You can switch the daytime running
lights
on and off .
Canada models:
The function cannot be turned
off. It is activated automatically each time the ig­
nition is switched on. This menu item is shown
"greyed out" .
Coming home, Leaving home
The coming home function illuminates the area
outside the vehicle when you switch the ignition
off and open the driver's door. To turn the func-
tion on, select
Lights when leaving car> On. .,.

If there are pedestrians or wild animals in an
area in front of you r vehicle that is classified as
critical, the system will direct your attention to
this :
- Pedestrians or wild animals are highlighted in
red and the corresponding symbol. or.

The area classified as critical is based on the vehi­
cle speed and the steering wheel angle. Pedes­
trian and wild animal warning encourages you to
pay more attention.
If the night vision assist image is replaced by an­
other display (such as the on-board computer),
the red indicator light . or. will appear if
there is a pedestrian or wild animal warning

If the head-up display* is switched on and the
night vision assist content is activated, . or.
will appear in the head-up display*.
Marking light*
To direct the driver's attention to a pedestrian,
the headlights can flash on the pedestrian three
times in a row when there is a pedestrian warn­
ing.
This happens at speeds above approximately
35 mph (60 km/h) when you are traveling out­
side of well-lit areas and when flashing the head­ lights will not create glare for a vehicle detected
in the oncoming lane . The marker light* is con­
trolled by the high beam assist*

Night vision assist

The following situations may affect the function
of the night vision assist system:
- Poor visibility such as snow, rain, fog or heavy
spray
- Dirty lens on the night vision assist camera
Make sure the night vision assist camera
c::;, fig. 111 is not covered by stickers, deposits or
any other obstructions because that can affect
the camera function . For information on clean­
ing, refer to
c::;, page 193.
Pedestrian and wild animal detection depends on
the difference in temperature between the per­
son/wild animal and the background area. Pedes­
trians/wild animals may not be detected if the difference is too small. Pedestrian and wild ani­
mal marking and the marker light* are deactivat­
ed at temperatures above approximately 77 °F
(25 °C) and when it is light outside . When the
night vision assistant image is selected in the in­
strument cluster display, the
II symbol appears
in the upper right.
A WARNING
Pay attention to traffic and the area around
your vehicle when night vision assist is switch­
ed on. The driver is always responsible for cor­
rectly assessing the traffic situation.
- Night vision assist can only warn about peo­
ple and wild animals located within the visu­
al range of the infrared camera. The visual
range corresponds to the image in the in­
strument cluster display .
