The ground clearance is very low due to a system
malfunct ion . Wa it until the air suspension sys­
tem has restored norma l ground clea rance. Oth­
erwise, conditions such as an uneven road surface
can lead to vehicle damage.
ii !f Safety systems
The II (USA models) tfll (Canada models) indi­
cator light monito rs the safety systems (e.g. air­
bags, pretensioners) and illuminates for a few
seconds each time you switch the ignition on.
If t he
II (U SA models)/ E,I (Canada models) in­
d icator light does not go out, or if it i llum inates
while you are d riving, or if i t starts to blink , then
there is a ma lfunction somewhere in the system.
If the light does not ill uminate when you switch
the ign ition on, this also means there is a ma l­
function.
A WARNING
If you have a malfunction in the safety sys­
tems, contact your authorized Audi dealer im­
mediately. Othe rw ise the safety systems may
not work properly in an acc ident .

There is a malfunction in the brake booster. The
brake booste r is ava ilab le, but its effectiveness is
r educed. Bra king behavior may be different from
how it normally f un ct ions and the br ake pedal
may vibrate .

;;.I C; Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the bJ indicator light blinks while driving, the
ESP o r ASR (anti-slip regu lation) is actively regu­
l ating .
If the
bJ ind icator light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off. In th is case, you can switch
the ignition off and then on to switch the ESC on again. The indicator light t urns off when the sys ­
tem is functioning fully .
If the
II ind icator light turns on, ESC was
switched off using the
I~ O FFI button

Introduction
Applies to vehicles: with Audi adaptive cruise control
The adaptive cruise contro l system assists the
driver by regulating vehicle speed and helping to
maintain a set distance to the veh icle ahead ,
within the limits of the system. If the system de­
tects a moving vehicle up ahead, adaptive cruise
control can brake and then accelerate your vehi­
cle. This helps to make driving more comfortable
both on long highway stretches and in stop-and­
go traffic.
The braking guard system can warn you about an
impending collision and initiate braking maneu­
vers
c::> page 90.
Adaptive cruise control and braking guard have
technical limitations that you must know, so
please read this section carefully, understand
how the system works and use them properly at
all times.

er be covered by stickers or othe r objects or ob­
structed with dirt, insects, snow or ice that will
interfere with the adaptive cruise control system
and braking guard. For information on cleaning,

modifications made in the front area .
The function of the adaptive cruise control sys­
tem and braking guard is limited under some
conditions:
- Objects can only be detected when they are
w ithin sensor range
c::>page 86, fig. 91.
- Th e system has a limited ability to detect ob­
jects that are a short distance ahead, off to the
side of you r vehicle or moving into your lane .
- Some kinds of vehicles are hard to detect; for
example motorcycles, veh icles with high
ground clearance or overhanging loads may be
detected when it is too late or they may not be
detected at all.
- When driving through curves

A WARNING
Always pay attention to traffic when adaptive
cruise control is switched on and braking
guard is active. As the driver, you are still re­
sponsible for starting and for maintaining
speed and distance to other objects. Braking
guard is used to assist you. The driver must
always take act ion to avoid a collision . The
driver is always respons ible for braking at the
correct time.
- Improper use of adaptive cruise control can cause collisions , other accidents and serious
personal injury.
- Never let the comfort and convenience that
adapt ive cru ise control and braking guard
offe r dist ract you from the need to be alert
to traffic conditions and the need to remain
in fu ll contro l of your ve hicle at all times,
- Always remember that the adaptive cruise
control and braking guard have limits -they
will no t slow the vehicle down or maintain
the set distance when you drive towards an
obstacle or something on or near the road
that is not moving, s uch as vehicles stopped
in a traff ic jam, a stalled or disab led vehicle.
If registered by the radar sensors, vehicles
or obstacles that are not moving can trigger
a co llision warning and if confirmed by the
video camera, an acute co llision warning.

Driving settings
Introduction
Drive select makes it possible to experience d if­
ferent types of vehicle settings in one vehicle.
The driver can select
Comfort, Auto and Dynami c
modes in the Infotainment system to switch be­
tween a sporty and a comfortable driving mode.
In the
Individual mode, the settings can be ad­
justed to your personal preferences. This makes it possible to combine settings such as a sporty
engine tuning with light steering.
A WARNING
-
Improper use of the Audi dr ive select can
cause collisions, other accidents and serious
personal injury.
Description
The follow ing systems are affected by drive se­
lect:
Engine and transmission
Depending on the mode, the eng ine and the
transmission respond quicker or in a more bal­
anced manner to acce lerator pedal movements.
I n the sporty dynamic mode, the transmission
shifts at h igher RPMs.
Air suspension*
The adaptive air suspension/adaptive air suspen­
sion sport*
(Air suspension in the MMI) is an
e lectronically controlled air suspens ion and
damping system. They are adjusted depend ing
on the selected dr iv in g mode, the driver's steer­
ing, braking and acceleration input and the road
surface, vehicle speed and load. A sporty setting
is generally used in vehicles with adaptive air sus­
pension sport*.
The vehicle clearance varies depending on these ­
lected mode and the speed.
The highway setting is activated automatically
when yo u drive above 75 mph (120 km/h) for
mo re than 30 seconds in the
Auto or Dynamic

mode. The ground clea rance is increased auto­
matically if the speed drops below 44 mph (70
km/h) for more than 120 seconds.
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steering ratios. Indirect stee ring that moves
easily, like the steering in comfort mode, is best
suited to long drives on a highway. In contrast,
dynamic mode provides sporty, direct steering.
The following applies to vehicles with dynamic
steering*: the steering ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to maintain optimum
steering effort for the driver at a ll times . This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle con­
trol. At reduced speeds, however, steering is
more direct in order to keep the steering effort as
min imal as possible when the dr iver is maneuver­
i ng the vehicle. At low and average speeds, dy­
namic steering additionally provides more re­
sponsive steering performance.
Sport differential*
As a component of the all wheel dr ive system
(quattro)

distributes the d riving powe r to the rear axle de­
pending on the situation . T he distr ibutio n of
power varies depending on the selected mode,
from ba lanced (comfort) to agile (dynamic). The
goal is a high level of agility and ability to accel­
erate on curves. The vehicle is very responsive to
steering.
Curve light*
The curve light adapts to driving on curves. The
pivoting action and the lighting are also adapted
to the mode.
Adaptive cruise control*
The behav ior when accelerating can be adjusted
from comfortable to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode. Adaptive cruise control also
responds to the driving behavior of the vehicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner . .,..

appears, the steering may be more difficult to
move or more sensit ive tha n usual. The steering
wheel may also be at an angle when driving
stra ight.

function corrected.
kr.ij D ynam ic steering : Ini tializing
If the indicator lig ht ls b link ing and th is message
appears, dynamic steering* is being initialized.
Once you start the engine after this is finished,
the steering wheel will be easy to move. Re-in iti­
alization m ight be necessary if the steering wheel
was moved hard to the left and right wh ile the
ve hicle was not moving . The display turns off if
the initialization was successfu l.

for a short time, you may continue driving .
- The dynamic steering stability systems

Intelligent Technology
All wheel drive (quattro)
Applies to vehicles: with all wheel drive
In all wheel drive, all four wheels are powered.
General informat ion
In all whee l dr ive, the dr iving power is div ided be­
tween all fou r wheels . This happens automatical­
ly depending on yo ur driving behavior as we ll as
the cur rent road conditions . Refer to ¢ page 187,
E lectronic Stabilization Control (ESC).
A center d ifferential d istribu tes the driving power
variab ly to the front and rear axle. It works to­
gether with selective whee l torque contro l, w hich
activates when driving through curves
¢ page 188. With the sport d ifferential*, power
distribution to the rear wheels is variable and can
be adjusted with drive select¢ page 100 .
The all wheel drive concept is designed for high
engine power. Your vehicle is except ionally pow­
erfu l and has excellent driv ing characteristics
both under normal driving conditions and on
snow and ice . Always read and follow safety pre­
cautions ¢

Winter tires
By using all wheel dr ive, your veh icle has good
forward motion with standard tires in w inter con­
ditions. However, in w inter we recommend using
winter or all seaso n tires on all four wheels, be­
ca use this will improve the brak ing effect.
Snow chains
If there are snow chain laws, snow cha ins must
also be used on veh icles w ith all wheel dr ive
¢ page 246 , Snow chains .
Replacing tires
For vehicles with a ll wheel drive, on ly wheels with
the same roll ing circumference should be used.
Avo id whee ls with different tread depths
¢ page 238, New tires or wheels .
Offroad vehicle?
Your Audi is not an offroad vehicle - there is not
enough ground clearance. For this reason, avoid
