A WARNING
Only switch sport mode on when your driving
abilities and the traffic s ituation permit, be­
cause there is a r isk of slid ing .
- The stabilization function is limited when
sport mode is sw itched on. The driving
wheels could spin and the vehicle cou ld
swerve, espec ially on slick or slippery road
surfaces .
(D Tips
Sport mode cannot be sw itched on if the
cru ise control system* or adaptive cruise con­
trol* is switched on.
Braking
What affects braking efficiency?
New brake pads
During the first 250 miles (400 km), new brake
pads do not possess the ir full braking effect, they
have to be "broken in" first¢.&. . You can com­
pensate for this slightly reduced braking power
by push ing harder on the brake pedal. Avoid
h eavy braking loads during the break-in period .
Operating conditions and driving habits
The brakes on today's automobiles are still sub­
ject to wear , depend ing largely on operating con­
d itions and dr iving habits ¢.&. . On veh icles that
are e ither dr iven most ly in stop-and-go city traf­
fic or are driven hard, the brake pads should be
checked by your authorized Audi deale r more of­
ten than specified in the
Warranty & Mainte­
nance booklet.
F ailure to have your brake pads inspected can result
in reduced brake perform­
ance.
On steep slopes, you should use the braking ef­
fect of the engine. This way, you prevent un nec­
essa ry wea r on the brake system. If you must use
you r brakes, do not hold the brakes down contin­
u ous ly. Pump the brakes at intervals.
Operating noise
Noises may occur when braking depending on the
speed, bra king fo rce and outside conditions such
as temperature and humidity.
Effect of water and road salt
In certain situations, for example after driving
through water, in heavy rain, after overn ight con­
densation or afte r wash ing your car, the brak ing
effect can be reduced by moisture or ic e on the
brake rotors and brake pads. The brakes must be
dried f irst with a few careful brake applications .
At h igher speeds and w ith the windshield wipers
turned on, the brake pads press against the brak e
rotors for a short amount of time. This occurs at
regular intervals without the driver noticing and
provides for better brake response t ime under
wet conditions.
T he effectiveness of the brakes can be reduced
when the vehicle is driven on a sa lt-covered road
and the brakes are not used . Likewise, yo u clean
off accum ulated salt coating from brake discs
and pads with a few cautious applications of the
brake¢ .&..
Corrosion
There may be a tendency fo r dirt to build up on
the brake pads and corrosion to form on the discs .,..

Care and cleaning
-To reduce the risk of cuts, protect yourself
from sharp metal components when was h­
ing the underbody or the inside of the wheel
housings .
- After washing the vehicle, the braking effect
may be delayed due to mo isture on the
brake rotors or ice in the winter . The brakes
must be d ried first w ith a few careful b rake
applications.
(D Note
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exte rior m irrors in
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.
Power folding exte rior m irrors* must on ly
be fo lded in and out us ing the powe r folding
f u nct ion.
- To p revent paint damage , do not wash the
vehicle in di rect sunlight.
- To reduce the risk of damage to the surface,
do not use insec t remov ing sponges, kit chen
sponges or similar items. - Matte finish painted vehicle components:
-To reduce the r isk of damage to the sur-
face, do not use polis hing agents or hard
wax.
- Never use protective wax. It can destroy
the matte finish effect .
- Do not place any stickers or magnetic
signs on vehicle parts painted with matte
finish paint. The paint could be damaged
when the stickers or magnets are re­
moved.
@ For the sake of the environment
Only wash t he ve hicle in facilities spec ially de­
signed for that pu rpose . This will reduce the
r isk of dirty wate r contaminated with o il from
ente ring the sewe r system.

Taking the wheel off/installing the spare
Follow these instructions step-by-step for chang­
ing the wheel.

After you have loosened all wheel bol ts and
raised the vehicle off the ground, remove and re ­
place the whee l as fo llows:

to completely remove the topmost
wheel bolt and set it aside on a
clean surface

from the tool kit hand-tight into the empty bolt

• Use the hexagonal socket in the screwdr iver
handle to screw in and tighten all wheel bolts
slightly .
.. Remove the alignment pin and insert and tight­
en the remaining wheel bol t slight ly like the
rest.
• Turn the jack handle counter -clockw ise to lower
the vehicle unt il the jack is fully released .
• Use the wheel bo lt wrench to t ighten a ll wheel
bolts firmly

wise,
from one bo lt to the ( approx imately) op­
posite one, to keep the wheel centered.

When removing o r installing the wheel, the
rim co uld h it the brake rotor and damage t he
rotor . Work carefully and have a second per ­
son help you .
@ Tips
Never use the he xagonal socke t in the hand le
of the sc rewdriver to loosen or t ighten the
whee l bolts.
- Pull the reversible blade from the screwdr iv­
er before you use the hexagona l socket in
the handle to t urn the whee l bolts .
- When mount ing tires with

pointed the right way

- T he wheel bolts shou ld be clean and easy to
turn. Check for dirt and corrosion on the mating surfaces of both the wheel and the
hub. Remove all dirt from these surfaces be­
fore remounting the wheel.
