approximately the first 15 minutes when
the engine is cold is recommended. The
amount of time until the engine is warm de­
pends on the outside temperature. Check
the engine oil temperature* if necessary

-Auxiliary headlights and other accessories in
front of the cooling-air intake impair the
cooling effect of the coolant . This increases
the risk of the engine overheating during
high outside temperatures and heavy en­
gine load.
- The front spoiler also he lps to distr ibute
cooling air correct ly wh ile driving. If the
spo iler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the engine over ­
heating will increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa­
cility for assistance.
@ Tips
Diesel engines: due to the high efficiency of
these engines, the engine may not always
reach operating temperature in cold outside
temperatures. This is normal and not a cause
for concern.

the additional information in the instrument

In addition to the indicator lights in the display,
there are addit ional ind icators in the tachometer .
They blink or turn on to indicate functions or mal­
functions . Messages @ may also appear briefly
with some indicator lights. A warning tone
sounds at the same time.
If there is more than one malfunction, the indica ­
tor lights will turn on one after the other for a short time.
The ind icator lights and messages in the display
can be covered by other d isplays . In cases where
the indicator light @ is hidden, the central ind i­
cator light © will remain visib le until the mal­
function is corrected.

Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly as a funct ion
check when you sw itch the ignition on. These sys­
tems are marked with a./ in the following tab les.
If one of these ind icator lights does not turn on,
there is a malfunction in that system .
Your vehicle has either a monochrome display or
a multicolored disp lay, depending on vehicle
equipment. In a monochrome display, the indica­

Instruments and indicator lights
If the indicator light blinks and the message ap­
pears, there is not enough braking power to se­
cure the vehicle. The brakes have overheated. The
veh icle could roll away even on a small incline.

A WARNING
- Never open the hood if you can see or hear
steam or coolant escaping from the engine
compartment. This inc reases the risk of
burns. Wait until you no longer see or hea r
steam or coolant escaping.
- The engine compartment in any veh icle can
be a dangerous area. Stop the engine and

allow it to cool befo re working in the engine
compartment. Always follow the informa­
tion found in ¢

dicator. Always check the oil level regularly.
D Alternator/battery
• Alternator fault : battery is not being charg­
ed
There is a ma lfunction in the a lternator or the ve­
hicle electrical system.
Drive to an authorized A udi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility immediate ly. Because the ve­
hicle battery is dra ining, turn off all unnecessary
electrical equ ipment such as the MMI. See your
authorized Aud i dealer or authorized Audi Serv ice
Facil ity if the battery cha rge level is too low.
(•) Low battery charge: Battery will be charged
while driving
The starting ability may be impaired .
If this message turns off after a litt le whi le, t he
battery ch a rged enough while driv ing.

Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
Different systems could be installed.
- manual climate control system* or
- automatic climate control system*
- Plug-in hybrid drive* climate control

The climate control system* cools and removes
humidity from the air in the vehicle interior. It is
the most effective when the windows and panor­
ama sunroof* are closed.
If there is a build-up of
heat inside the vehicle, ventilation can help to
speed up the cooling process. For this reason, the
windows and panorama sunroof can be opened from the outside .

Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the air .
Key recognition
You can store various settings for the manual and
automatic
climate control system* and assign
them to the key being used.
A WARNING
Poor visibility can lead to accidents.
- For safer driving, keep all windows free of
ice, snow and fog.
- Become familiar as quickly as possible with
the correct use and function of the cl imate
control system, especially with the defrost­
ing and defogg ing function.
- When the temperature is below freezing,
only use the windshield washer system after

the windshield has been warmed by the cli­
mate control system. The washer fluid could
freeze on the windshield and impair visibili­
ty.
Cl) Note
- If you suspect that the climate control sys­
tem is damaged, switch the system off to
prevent further damage and have it checked
by an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility.
- Repairs to the Audi climate control system
require special technical knowledge and
special tools. See an authorized Aud i dealer
or authorized Aud i Service Facility .
@ For the sake of the environment
Reducing the amount of fuel used also re­
duces the amount of pollutants that enter the
air.
(D Tips
- To prevent interference with the heating
and cooling output and to prevent the win­
dows from fogging over, the a ir intake in
front of the windshie ld must be free of ice,
snow or leaves.
- Condensation from the cooling system* can
dr ip and form a puddle of water unde r the
vehicle. This is norma l and does not mean
there is a leak.
- Th e energy management system may switch
the seat heating* or rear window defroster
off temporarily. These systems are available
again as soon as the energy supply has been
restored.
- The f lows through the vents under the rear
window. Make sure the openings are not
covered when placing clothing on the lug­
gage compartment cover .

The functions are controlled using three dials and
buttons . The LED in a button will light up when
the function is switched on.

Manual climate control system*
For a comfortable temperature, we recommend :
- in warmer times of the year, set the tempera-
ture so that it is only a few degrees below the
outside temperature .
- set the blower at a moderate speed
- don't direct the air flow directly on the passen- gers

The cooling mode only functions with the blower
turned on . The air is not cooled and humidity is
not removed when cooling mode is switched off.
This can cause fog on the windows. The cooling
mode switches off automatically when there are
cold outside temperatures.

To prevent the windows from fogging over, the b lower should a lways run at a low speed. When
the w indows are fogged, we recommend using a

The dial adjusts the temperature and the blower
speed . Press the buttons to turn the functions on
or off. The LED in a button wi ll light up when the

Automatic climate control system
We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and
se tti ng the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C). The au­
tomatic climate control system automatically
maintains a temperature once it has been set.
The air temperature coming from the vents, the
b lower speed, and the a ir distribution are also
automatically adjusted. In all heating mode func­
tions except
defrost, the blower only switches to
a higher speed once the eng ine coolant has
reached a ce rtain temperature .

You should not use the recirculation mode for
an extended period since no fresh ai r is drawn
i n . With the air-conditioning* switched off,
the w indows can fog up, whic h increases the

IA/C l Switching the cooling mode on and off
The cooling system is turned on and off with the
IAJC I button. The air is not coo led and humidity is
not removed when cooling mode is switched off .
This can cause fog on the windows. The cooling
mode switches off automatically when there are
cold outside temperatures.
I AUTO I Switching automatic mode on and off
The automatic mode is turned on using the
IAUTOI button. AUTO mode switches off once a
button in the climate control system is pressed.
Automatic mode maintains a constant tempera­
ture inside the vehicle. Air temperature, a irflow
and air distribution are controlled automatically.
When automatic mode is active, pressing the
IAUTOI button b rief ly act ivates the "Eco"
mode*
1> . I n "Ec o" mode*, all settings are low-
e red slightly to save fu el. When in "Eco" mode*,

Eco is shown in the display. To exit "Eco" mode*,
press the
I AUTOI button again.
I• I • I Setting the temperature
The temperature can be adjusted individually for
the driver and front passenger using the dials.
Temperatures between 60 °F ( +16 °C) and 84 °F
(+28 °C) can be set. If outside of this range, LO or
HI will appear in the climate control system dis­
p lay. In both settings, the climate control runs
with constantly at the maximum cooling or heat­ ing level. The temperature is not regulated.
Synchronization: by pressing the IAUTOI button
for two seconds, the temperature setting for the
driver's side is transferred to the front passeng­
er's side. This applies a temperature change to
the front passenger's side.
~ Adjusting the blower
To prevent the windows from fogging over, the b lower should a lways run at a low speed. You can
adjust the volume of air generated by the blower
to your preference. To have the blower regulated
automatically, press the IAUTO ! button .
Adjusting the air distribution
The air distribution is adjusted with the~, U!J
and ~ buttons. To have the air distribution regu­
lated automatically, press the
IAUTOI button.

ty sensor that is designed for diesel and gaso­

circulated and filtered. This prevents the unfi l­
tered air outside the vehicl e from enter ing the
vehicle interior. We recommend switching recir­
cu lation mode on when driving through a twnnel
or when sitting in traffic¢ .&..
