WARNING
•Pilot Assist is not a collision avoidance system. The driver is always responsiblefor applying the brakes if the system doesnot detect another vehicle.
• Do not use Pilot Assist in demandingdriving conditions such as city driving orother heavy traffic situations, in slipperyconditions, when there is a great deal ofwater or slush on the road, during heavyrain or snow, in poor visibility, on windingroads or on highway on- or off-ramps.
• Pilot Assist uses the vehicle's cameraand radar sensor, which have limitations.
Pilot Assist may deactivate or not function optimally if:
• the lane's side market lines are missing, badly faded or cross each other.
• the division of lanes is not clear, e.g.,when a line divides or merges withanother, at exits or if there are many roadsigns/markers.
• if there are edges or other lines on ornear the lane, e.g., curbs, cracks, repairedareas, sharp shadows, etc.
• the lane is narrow or winding.
• the weather conditions (rain, snow, fog,slush, poor visibility, backlighting, etc).
The driver should also be aware that Pilot Assist has the following limitations:
• High curbs, barriers and temporary obsta- cles (cones, barriers etc) may not bedetected or could be detected incorrectlyas side marker lines, which may create arisk of collision. The driver must ensure asafe distance to these obstacles.
• The camera or radar sensor may not beable to detect objects if there are pot-holes or if there are stationary objectspartially or completely blocking the road.
• Pilot Assist does not "see" pedestrians,animals, etc.
• Pilot Assist's steering capacity is limitedand may not always be able to help thedriver keep the vehicle in the lane.
The driver can always take action to override Pilot Assist.
Steep roads and/or heavy loadsPilot Assist is primarily intended for use on rela-tively level roads. The function may not be able tomaintain the correct time interval to the vehicleahead on when driving down steep hills, when thevehicle is transporting a heavy load or if it is tow-ing a trailer. The driver should be attentive andprepared to apply the brakes in these situations.

Driving on wet or salted roadsProlonged driving on wet or salted roads can affect brake function and increase stopping dis-tance. Be sure to keep a safe distance to thevehicle ahead when driving under these condi-tions.
Brake pad inspection
On vehicles equipped with a jack*, the condition
of the brake pads can be checked by raising thevehicle and performing a visual inspection of thebrake pads.
WARNING
• If the vehicle has been driven immediately prior to a brake pad inspection, the wheelhub, brake components, etc., will be veryhot. Allow time for these components tocool before carrying out the inspection.
• Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in the Park (
P) position.
• Block the wheels standing on the ground, use rigid wooden blocks or large stones.
WARNING
•
Use the jack intended for the vehicle when changing a tire. For any other job,use stands to support the vehicle.
• The jack should be kept well-greased andclean, and should not be damaged.
• Be sure the jack is on a firm, level, non-slippery surface.
• No objects should be placed between thebase of jack and the ground, or betweenthe jack and the attachment bar on thevehicle.
• The jack must correctly engage the jackattachment.
• Never allow any part of your body to beextended under a vehicle supported by ajack.
Instrument panel symbols
SymbolExplanation
Red symbol: Check the brake fluid level. If the level is low, top up andhave the system inspected todetermine the cause of the loss offluid.
Yellow symbol: Time for brake sys- tem service.
Steady glow for 2 seconds when the engine is started: automaticfunction control. Steady glow for more than 2 seconds: there is a fault inthe ABS system. The normal brakesystem will still function but withoutABS brake modulation.

If the fluid level is below the
MIN mark in the
reservoir or if a brake system message is shown in the information display: DO NOT
DRIVE . Have the vehicle towed to a trained
and qualified Volvo service technician and have the brake system inspected.

WARNING
•Do not connect the jumper cable to any part of the fuel system or to any movingparts. Avoid touching hot manifolds.
• Batteries generate hydrogen gas, whichis flammable and explosive.
• Battery fluid contains sulfuric acid. Do notallow battery fluid to contact eyes, skin,fabrics or painted surfaces. If contactoccurs, flush the affected area immedi-ately with water. Obtain medical helpimmediately if eyes are affected.
• Never expose the battery to open flameor electric spark.
• Do not smoke near the battery.
• Failure to follow the instructions for jumpstarting can lead to injury.

Driving with a trailer
When towing a trailer, always observe the legal requirements of the state/province.
• All Volvo models are equipped with energy- absorbing shock-mounted bumpers. Trailerhitch installation should not interfere with theproper operation of this bumper system.
Trailer towing does not normally present any par- ticular problems, but take into consideration:
• Increase tire pressure to recommended full pressure.
• When your vehicle is new, avoid towing heavytrailers during the first 620 miles (1,000 km).
• Maximum speed when towing a trailer:50 mph (80 km/h).
• Engine and transmission are subject toincreased loads. Therefore, engine coolanttemperature should be closely watched whendriving in hot climates or hilly terrain. Use alower gear and turn off the air conditioner ifthe temperature gauge needle enters the redrange.
• If the automatic transmission begins to over-heat, a message will be displayed in the textwindow.
• Avoid overload and other abusive operation.
• Hauling a trailer affects handling, durability,and economy.
• It is necessary to balance trailer brakes withthe towing vehicle brakes to provide a safe stop (check and observe state/local regula-tions).
• Do not connect the trailer's brake systemdirectly to the vehicle's brake system.
• More frequent vehicle maintenance isrequired.
• Remove the ball holder when the hitch is notbeing used.
NOTE
• When parking the vehicle with a trailer on a hill, apply the parking brake before put- ting the gear selector in
P. Always follow
the trailer manufacturer's recommenda- tions for wheel chocking.
• When starting on a hill, put the gear selector in
D before releasing the parking
brake.
• If you use the manual (Geartronic) shift positions while towing a trailer, make surethe gear you select does not put toomuch strain on the engine (using toohigh a gear).
• The drawbar assembly/trailer hitch maybe rated for trailers heavier than the vehi-cle is designed to tow. Please adhere toVolvo's recommended trailer weights.
• Avoid driving with a trailer on inclines ofmore than 15%.

Internet connected vehicle
Connecting to the Internet makes it possible to e.g., use certain navigation services, listen toweb radio, stream music using apps, contact aretailer and download software.
The vehicle can connect to the Internet using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a cell phone connected by acable to the USB socket or via the integratedmodem. When connected, it is possible to share (tether) a Wi-Fi-hotspot to allow other devices to use the connection 4
.

Cleaning the interior
Only use cleaning agents and car care products recommended by Volvo. Clean regularly and fol-low the instructions included with the car careproduct.
CAUTION
• Under no circumstances should gasoline, naphtha or similar cleaning agents beused on the plastic or the leather sincethese can cause damage.
• Take extra care when removing stainssuch as ink or lipstick since the coloringcan spread.
• Use solvents sparingly. Too much solventcan damage the seat padding.
• Start from the outside of the stain andwork toward the center.
• Sharp objects (e.g. pencils or pens in apocket) or Velcro fasteners on clothingmay damage the textile upholstery.
• Clothing that is not colorfast, such asnew jeans or suede garments, may stainthe upholstery.
Fabric upholstery and ceiling linerClean with soapy water or a detergent. For more difficult spots caused by oil, ice cream, shoe pol-ish, grease, etc., use a clothing/fabric stainremover. Consult your Volvo retailer.
Leather
* careVolvo's leather upholstery is manufactured with aprotectant to repel soiling. Over time, sunlight,grease and dirt can break down the protection.Staining, cracking, scuffing, and fading can result. Volvo offers an easy-to-use, non-greasy leather care kit formulated to clean and beautify yourvehicle's leather, and to renew the protectivequalities of its finish. The cleaner removes dirtand oil buildup. The light cream protectantrestores a barrier against soil and sunlight. Volvo also offers a special leather softener that should be applied after the cleaner and protec-tant. It leaves leather soft and smooth, andreduces friction between leather and other fin-ishes in the vehicle. Volvo recommends cleaning, protecting and con- ditioning your vehicle's leather two to four times ayear. Ask your Volvo retailer about Leather CareKit 951 0251 and Leather Softener 943 7429.
Cleaning leather upholstery1. Pour leather cleaner on a damp sponge and
squeeze it until the cleaner foams.
2. Apply the foam to the stain by moving the sponge with circular movements.
3. Dampen the stain thoroughly with the sponge. Let the sponge absorb the stain, do not rub.
4. Dry the stain with soft paper towels or a towel, and allow the leather to dry completely.
Protecting leather upholstery1. Put a small amount of protectant cream on a cloth and apply a thin coating of cream to the upholstery with light circular movements.
2. Allow the leather to dry for 20 minutes. This will help the leather resist staining and pro- tect against sunlight's harmful UV rays.
Cleaning a leather-covered steering wheel
• Remove soil, dust, etc., with a damp sponge and a neutral soap solution.
• Leather should be allowed to breath. Nevercover the steering wheel with a plastic pro-tector.
• Volvo recommends cleaning, protecting andconditioning the steering wheel with Volvo'sLeather Care Kit 951 0251 and LeatherSoftener 943 7429.
If there are stains on the steering wheel: Type 1 (ink, wine, coffee, milk, sweat or blood)
–Use a soft cloth or sponge. Wipe the wheel with a solution with 5% ammonia. For bloodstains, mix approx. 1 cup (2 dl) of water andone ounce (25g) of salt and wipe the stain.
Type 2 (fat, oil, sauces, or chocolate)
1. Same procedure as for type I stains.
2. Finish by rubbing the wheel with absorbent paper or a towel.
