Detachable trailer hitch
Volvo recommends the use of Volvo trailer hitches that are specially designed for the vehi-cle.
Ball holder

Installing the ball holder1. If necessary, remove the cotter pin from the locking bolt and slide the locking bolt out of the hitch assembly.
2. Slide the ball holder into the hitch assembly. 3. Align the hole in the ball holder with the one
in the hitch assembly.
4. Slide the locking bolt through the hitch assembly/ball holder.
5. Insert the cotter pin in the hole at the end of the locking bolt.
Removing the ball holder1. Remove the cotter pin from the locking boltand slide the locking bolt out of the ballholder/hitch assembly.
2. Pull the ball holder out of the hitch assembly.
NOTE
A cover for the hitch assembly is also included in the kit.

WARNING
When not in use, the detachable trailer hitch should always be kept in its compartment inthe foam block under the cargo compartmentfloor (see the illustration).

Ignition modes
The vehicle's ignition can be put in various modes (levels) to make different functions availa-ble.
The vehicle's ignition has 3 modes: 0, I, and II
that can be used to operate various functions without starting the engine. The following tableshows examples of which functions are availablein the respective modes.

Loading modeUse the buttons in the cargo compartment to raise or lower the vehicle to make loading orunloading easier or when attaching a trailer.
Parking the vehicleWhen parking, be sure that there is adequatespace above and below the vehicle since itsground clearance may vary, e.g., depending onthe ambient temperature, how the vehicle is loa-ded, if loading mode is being used or the drivemode selected after the engine is started. The level may also be adjusted for a certain time after the vehicle has been parked to compensatefor possible height adjustments due to tempera-ture changes in the pneumatic suspension whenthe vehicle has cooled.
TransportWhen transporting the vehicle on a ferry, train ora tow truck, it may only be secured (lashed)around the tires, not using any other chassiscomponents. Changes in the pneumatic suspen-sion may occur during transport that could nega-tively affect the lashing and result in damage.

NOTE
•If you overfill the tire, release air by push- ing on the metal stem in the center of thevalve. Then recheck the pressure withyour tire gauge.
• Some spare tires require higher inflationpressure than the other tires. Consult thetire inflation pressure table or the inflationpressure placard.

When changing wheels to another dimension, always follow Volvo's instructions.
When changing to tires of another
dimension
If you mount tires with a dimension other thanthe factory-installed tires, contact an authorizedVolvo retailer to update the vehicle's software.This may also be necessary when changing fromsummer to winter tires, or vice versa.

Tools in the cargo compartment
Tools for e.g., changing wheels, etc. are located under the cargo compartment floor.
The foam block under the cargo compartment floor contains the towing eyelet, the tool for removing plastic wheel bolt covers, the jack * and
the lug wrench *. There is also a storage space for
the tool used to remove locking wheel bolts.

Jack
The jack is used to raise the vehicle, for example when mounting winter wheels, etc.
WARNING
• The jack must correctly engage the jack attachment.
• Be sure the jack is on a firm, level, non-slippery surface.
• Never allow any part of your body to beextended under a vehicle supported by ajack.
• Use the jack intended for the vehiclewhen changing a tire. For any other job,use stands to support the vehicle.
• Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in the Park (
P) position.
• Block the wheels standing on the ground, use rigid wooden blocks or large stones.
• The jack should be kept well-greased andclean, and should not be damaged.
• No objects should be placed between thebase of jack and the ground, or betweenthe jack and the attachment bar on thevehicle.
CAUTION
•
When not in use, the jack
* should be kept
in its storage compartment under the cargo compartment floor.
• The jack provided with your vehicle isintended to be used only in temporary sit-uations such as changing wheels in theevent of a flat tire. Only the jack thatcame with your particular model shouldbe used to lift the vehicle. If the vehicleneeds to be lifted more frequently or for aprolonged period, using a garage jack orhoist is recommended. Always follow thisdevice

WARNING
Current legislation prohibits the use of the "Temporary Spare" tire other than as a tem-porary replacement for a punctured tire. Itmust be replaced as soon as possible by astandard tire. Road holding and handling maybe affected with the "Temporary Spare" inuse. Do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h).
CAUTION
The vehicle must not be driven with wheels of different dimensions or with a spare tire otherthan the one that came with the vehicle. Theuse of different size wheels can seriouslydamage your car's transmission.
CAUTION
The vehicle must never be driven with more than one temporary spare wheel.
The spare tire is located under the floor of the cargo compartment. A retaining bolt holds thespare tire and foam block containing tools inplace.
Accessing the spare tire1. Lift the rear edge of the cargo compartment
floor.
2. Unscrew the retaining bolt.
3. Lift out the foam block holding the tools. 4. Lift out the spare tire.

Wheel bolts
The wheel bolts hold the wheel in place.
CAUTION
Wheel bolts should be tightened to 103 ft. lbs. (140 Nm). Over-tightening could damagethe threads.
Only use wheels/rims that have been tested and approved by Volvo and are included in Volvo'sproduct range. Use a torque wrench to checkthat the wheel bolts are tightened correctly.

The start battery is located in the cargo compartment
There are two versions of the start battery, depending on the vehicle model.

The H8 AGM is held in place by a strap. Ensure that this strap is pulled taut.
H8 AGM battery with strap
There is no strap for the H7 AGM battery.
H7 AGM battery
• When replacing the start battery or support battery in a vehicle with Start/Stop, anAbsorbed Glass Mat (AGM) must be used.
• When replacing the start battery, a new bat-tery with the same specifications and dimen-sions must be used. The battery should onlybe replaced by a trained and qualified Volvoservice technician.

Fuses The fuses help protect the vehicle's electrical components from overloading or short circuits.
WARNING
Never use metal objects or fuses with higher amperage than those stated on the lists offuses. Doing so could seriously damage oroverload the vehicle's electrical system.
If an electrical component fails to function, this may be due to a blown fuse. If the same fuseblows repeatedly, this indicates a problem withthe component, which should be inspected by atrained and qualified Volvo service technician.

Replacing fuses The fuses help protect the vehicle's electrical components from overloading or short circuits.
Fuse replacement1. See the list of fuse boxes for their locations.
2. Pull the fuse straight out and examine it from
the side to see if the curved metal wire in the fuse is intact.
3. If the wire is broken, insert a new fuse of the same color and amperage (written on thefuse).
