Please note that this manual applies to all models and explains all equipment,
including options. Therefore, you may find some explanations for equipment
not installed on your vehicle.
All specifications provided in this manual are current at the time of printing.
However, because of the Toyota policy of continual product improvement, we

Depending on specifications, the vehicle shown in the illustrations may differ
from your vehicle in terms of equipment.
Both genuine Toyota and a wide variety of other spare parts and accessories
for Toyota vehicles are currently available in the market. Should it be deter-
mined that any of the genuine Toyota parts or accessories supplied with the
vehicle need to be replaced, Toyota recommends that genuine Toyota parts
or accessories, be used to replace them. Other parts or accessories of
matching quality can also be used. Toyota cannot accept any liability or guar-
antee spare parts and accessories which are not genuine Toyota products,
nor for replacement or installation in volving such parts. In addition, damage
or performance problems resulting from the use of non-genuine Toyota spare
parts or accessories may not be covered under warranty.

NOTICE
■ Avoiding damage to vehicle parts
● Do not turn the steering wheel fully in either direction and hold it there for
an extended period of time.
Doing so may damage the power steering motor.
● When driving over bumps in the road, drive as slowly as possible to avoid
damaging the wheels, underside of the vehicle, etc.
■ If you get a flat tire while driving
A flat or damaged tire may cause the following situations. Hold the steering
wheel firmly and gradually depress the brake pedal to slow down the vehi-
cle.
● It may be difficult to control your vehicle.
● The vehicle will make abnormal sounds or vibrations.
● The vehicle will lean abnormally.

■ When encountering flooded roads
Do not drive on a road that has flooded after heavy rain etc. Doing so may
cause the following serious damage to the vehicle:
● Engine stalling
● Short in electrical components
● Engine damage caused by water immersion
In the event that you drive on a flooded road and the vehicle is flooded, be
sure to have any authorized Toyota deale r or repairer, or another duly quali-
fied and equipped professional check the following:
● Brake function
● Changes in quantity and quality of oil and fluid used for the engine, hybrid
transmission, etc.
● Lubricant condition for the bearings and suspension joints (where possi-
ble), and the function of all joints, bearings, etc.

Stop the vehicle.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Set the parking brake. ( →P. 194)
Press the power switch.
Release the brake pedal and check that the smart entry & start sys-
tem indicator (green) is off.
Modes can be changed by pressing the power switch with brake pedal
released. (The mode changes each time the switch is pressed.)

■ Operation of the power switch
● When operating the power switch, one short, firm press is enough. If the
switch is pressed improperly, the hybr id system may not start or the power
switch mode may not change. It is not necessary to press and hold the
switch.
● If attempting to restart the hybrid system immediately after turning the power
switch off, the hybrid system may not start in some cases. After turning the
power switch off, please wait a few seconds before restarting the hybrid sys-
tem.

WARNING
■ When starting the hybrid system
Always start the hybrid system while sitting in the driver’s seat. Do not
depress the accelerator pedal while starting the hybrid system under any
circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
■ Caution while driving
If a hybrid system failure occurs while the vehicle is moving, do not lock or
open the doors until the vehicle reaches a safe and complete stop. Activa-
tion of the steering lock in this circumstance may lead to an accident, result-
ing in death or serious injury.
■ Stopping the hybrid system in an emergency
If you want to stop the hybrid system in an emergency while driving the
vehicle, press and hold the power switch for more than 3 seconds, or press
it briefly 3 times or more in succession. ( →P. 387)
However, do not touch the power switch while driving except in an emer-
gency. Turning the hybrid system off while driving will not cause loss of
steering or braking control, however, power assist to the steering will be
lost. This will make it more difficult to steer smoothly, so you should pull over
and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.

■Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode
Eco drive mode controls the heating/cooling operations and fan speed of the
air conditioning system to enhance fuel efficiency. ( →P. 290) To improve air
conditioning performance, adjust the temper ature setting or fan speed, or turn
off Eco drive mode.
■ When in heavy traffic
If the shift lever is in N, the hybrid battery (traction battery) will not be
charged. To help prevent the battery fr om discharging, avoid putting the shift
lever in N for an extended period of time.

WARNING
■ When driving on slippery road surfaces
Do not accelerate or shift gears suddenly.
Sudden changes in engine braking may cause the vehicle to spin or skid,
resulting in an accident.

■ Front sensor
Observe the following to ensure that the sensor operates correctly:

● Do not attach window tinting to the windshield.
● If the part of the windshield in front of the front sensor is fogged up or cov- ered with condensation or ice, use the windshield defogger to remove thefog, condensation or ice.
● Keep the windshield clean at all times. The pre-crash safety system may not function properly if the windshield isdirty or covered with an oily film, water droplets, snow, etc. If the inner side of the windshield where the front sensor is installed is dirty,do not attempt to remove the front sensor. Contact any authorized Toyotadealer or repairer, or another dul y qualified and equipped professional.
● If the windshield needs to be replaced, contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another dul y qualified and equipped professional.
● Do not install an antenna in front of the sensor.
● Do not spill liquid onto the sensor.
● Do not allow bright lights to shine into the sensor.
●Do not damage or let the lenses of the front sensor get dirty. When cleaning the inner side of the windshield, do not let glass cleaner con-tact the lenses. Also, do not touch the lenses. For proper care of the lenses of the front sensor, contact any authorizedToyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-sional.
●Do not change the installation position or direction of the sensor or remove it.The direction of the sensor is precisely adjusted.
●Do not subject the sensor to strong impact or disassemble it.
●Do not install an electronic device or device that emits strong electric wavesnear the front sensor.
●Do not place reflective objects on top of the instrument panel.
● Do not attach stickers, including trans- parent stickers, or other items to theouter side of the windshield in front ofthe front sensor (shaded area in the illustration).

■Changing the pre-crash warning timing
Each time the PCS switch is
pressed, the warning timing
changes as follows:
Far (operation starts earlier)
Middle (default setting)
Near (operation starts later)
When the PCS switch is
pressed to turn the system on,
the PCS activation indicator will
turn on and the current warning
timing will be displayed on the
multi-information display.

● When the lane markers are on a curb etc.
● When lane markers are obscured or partially obscured by sand, dirt, etc.
● When there are shadows on the road running parallel with lane markers, or
if a shadow covers the lane markers
● When driving on a particularly bright road surface, such as concrete
● When driving on a road surface that is bright due to reflected light
● When driving in a location where the light level changes rapidly, such as the
entrance to or exit from a tunnel
● When sunlight or the headlights of oncoming vehicles are shining directly
into the camera lens
● When driving on roads that are branching or merging
● When driving on a road surface that is wet due to rain, previous rainfall,
standing water, etc.
● When the vehicle experiences strong up-and-down motion such as when
driving on an extremely rough road or on a seam in the pavement
● When headlight brightness at nighttime is reduced due to dirt on the lenses,
or when the headlights are misaligned
● When driving on winding roads or roads that are uneven
● When driving on rough or unpaved roads
● When the windshield is dirty, or if raindrops, condensation or ice are adher-
ing to the windshield
● When the heater is blowing to the feet, the upper part of the windshield may
get fogged up and have a negative effect
● When cleaning the inside of the windshield, touching the lens or getting
glass cleaner on the lens may have a negative effect
■ When changing the tires
Depending on the tires used, sufficient performance may not be maintainable.
■ If the LDA indicator comes on in yellow
It may indicate a malfunction in the system. Contact any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
