Safety infor mation for children
●It is recommended that children sit in the rear seats to avoid acci-
dental contact with the shift lever, wiper switch etc.
● 5-door models: Use the rear door child-protector lock to avoid chil-
dren opening the door, accidentally, while driving. ( →P. 105)
● Do not let small children operate equipment which may catch or
pinch body parts, such as the power window, hood, back door,
seats, etc.
Observe the following precautions when children are in the vehi-
cle.
Use a child restraint system appropriate for the child, until the
child becomes large enough to properly wear the vehicle’s seat
belt.
WARNING
Never leave children unattended in the vehicle, and never allow children to
have or use the key.
Children may be able to start the vehicle or shift the vehicle into neutral.
There is also a danger that children may injure themselves by playing with
the windows, the canvas top or other features of the vehicle. In addition,
heat build-up or extremely cold temperatures inside the vehicle can be fatal
to children.

■ Automatic reactivation of the Stop & Start system
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: Even if the Stop & Start system
is disabled by the Stop & Start cancel switch, it will be automatically re-
enabled once the engine switch is turned to the “LOCK” position then to the
“START” position
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: Even if the Stop & Start system is
disabled by the Stop & Start cancel switch, it will be automatically re-enabled
once the engine switch is turned off then the engine is started.
■ The Stop & Start system protection feature
Vehicles without a smart entry & st art system: When an excessively loud
sound is being projected by the audio system, the audio system may be auto-
matically cut off in order to maintain power for the Stop & Start system func-
tion.
If this occurs, turning the engine switch to the “LOCK” position then to the
“ACC” or “ON” position re -enables the audio system.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: When an excessively loud sound
is being projected by the audio system, the audio system may be automati-
cally cut off in order to maintain power for the Stop & Start system function.
If this occurs, turning the engine switch off then to ACCESSORY mode or
IGNITION ON mode re-enables the audio system.
■ Steering wheel operation
When the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, the steering wheel
may become heavier than when driving.
■ Hood
If the hood is opened while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system,
the engine cannot be restarted by the Stop & Start system or the automatic
engine start function. Restart the engi ne with the engine switch operation.
( →P. 151, 154)
■ When to use the Stop & Start system
Use the Stop & Start system when stopping the vehicle temporarily at red
lights, intersections, etc. When stoppi ng the vehicle for a longer period of
time, turn off the engine completely.
■ Stop & Start system warning buzzer
If the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system and the following action is
performed, a buzzer will sound and Stop & Start indicator will flash. This indi-
cates that the engine is only stopped by the Stop & Start system, not that the
engine has been turned off completely.
● The shift lever is shifted into a position other than N with the clutch pedal
released.
Even in this situation, the engine starts if the clutch pedal is depressed.

WARNING
■ Pre-driving check
Check that the hood is fully closed and locked.
If the hood is not locked properly, it may open while the vehicle is in motion
and cause an accident, which may result in death or serious injury.
■ After installing the support rod into the slot
Make sure the rod supports the hood securely from falling down on to your
head or body.
■ When detaching the support rod from the clip
● Take care to prevent hands or arms from being hit against the inside of the
engine hood. Failure to do so may result in serious injury.
NOTICE
■ When closing the hood
Be sure to return the support rod to its clip before closing the hood. Closing
the hood with the support rod up could cause the hood to bend.
● Hold the support protector area to pre-
vent scalding.
