ADDITIONAL METHODS OF RESTRAINT
The air bag is designed to complement the action of the seat belt. Both \
the air bags and seat belts are integral parts of the same protection
system. It is therefore essential to wear seat belts at all times. If se\
at belts
are not worn, the occupants are exposed to the risk of serious injury in\

the event of an accident. It may also increase the risk of minor superfi\
cial injuries
occurring when the air bag is deployed, although such minor injuries are\
always
possible with air bags.
The air bags are not always triggered if the vehicle should overturn or \
in the event
of a rear impact, however severe. Impacts to the underside of the vehicl\
e, e.g.
from pavements, potholes or stones, can all trigger these systems.
– No work or modification whatsoever may be carried out on any part of the air
bag system (air bags, arches, pretensioners, computer, wiring harness, etc.),
except by qualified personnel from an approved dealer.
– To ensure that the system is in good working order and to avoid accidenta\
l trig- gering of the system which may cause injury, only qualified Network personnel
may work on the air bag system.
– As a safety precaution, have the air bag system checked if your vehicle \
has been involved in an accident, or is stolen or broken into.
– When selling or lending the vehicle, inform the user of these points and\
hand over this driver’s handbook with the vehicle.
– When scrapping your vehicle, contact your approved dealer for disposal o\
f the gas generator(s).
Operating faults
Warning light 1 will light up on the in-
strument panel when the ignition is
switched on and then go out after a few
seconds.
If it does not come on when the igni-
tion is switched on, or if it comes on
when the engine is running, there is a
fault with the system (air bags, preten-
sioners in the front and/or rear seats,
arches, etc.).
Contact your approved dealer as soon
as possible. Your protection will be re-
duced until this fault is rectified.

All of the warnings below are given so that the air bag is not obstructed in any
way when it is inflated and also to prevent the risk of serious injuries caused
by items which may be dislodged when the air bag inflates.

Do not place any objects, or
sit on the arches 1 located
behind the headrests or on
shelf 2 located behind the
arches.

Automatic safety bars
The system comprises:
– a sensor that detects when the vehi- cle is overturning;
– two deploying arches 1.
If the vehicle overturns, the arches
deploy to increase the size of the safe
area underneath the vehicle.
Operating faults
Warning light 3 will light up on the in-
strument panel when the ignition is
switched on and then go out after a few
seconds.
If it does not come on when the igni-
tion is switched on, or comes on when
the engine is running, there is a fault in
the system.
Contact your approved dealer as soon
as possible. Your protection will be re-
duced until this fault is rectified.

Precautions
Observe the safety instructions indi-
cated on the arches 1.

X = Seat not suitable for fitting child seats.
U = Seat which allows a child seat with “Universal” approval to be ins\
talled using a seat belt; check that it can be fitted.
IL = On equipped vehicles, seat which allows an approved “Universal/semi-u\
niversal” or “vehicle specific” child seat to be attached
using the ISOFIX system; check that it can be fitted.
(2) Only a rear-facing child seat can be fitted in this seat: raise the seat\
to the maximum and position it as far back as possible ,
tilting the seatback slightly (approximately 25°).
(3) Forward-facing child seat; position the seatback of the child seat in co\
ntact with the seatback of the vehicle seat. Adjust the
headrest, or remove it if necessary. Do not push the front seat more than halfway back on its runners and d\
o not recline the
seatback more than 25°.
(4) A carrycot can be installed across the vehicle and will take up at least \
two seats. Position the child with his or her feet nea rest
the door.
(5) Make sure that the child seat or the child’s feet do not prevent the front seat from locking correctly. Refer to the information on
the “Front seat” in Section 1.
(6) Move the front seat as far forward as possible to install a rear-facing \
child seat, then move back the seat in front as far as it will
go, although without allowing it to come into contact with the child sea\
t.
CHILD SAFETY: fitting a child seat (4/4)
The rear seats are not equipped with anchoring points for attaching an a\
nti-tipping strap for ISOFIX universal 3-point
forward facing child seats. Only ISOFIX semi-universal 2-point child sea\
ts are authorised.
Consult an approved dealer to find out whether the child seat can be fit\
ted to the vehicle.

Deactivating the front
passenger air bags
(on equipped vehicles)
You must deactivate certain devices
in addition to the front passenger seat
belt before fitting a child seat in the front
passenger seat. To deactivate the air bags: with the
vehicle stationary, push and turn
lock 1 to the OFF position.
With the ignition on, you
must check
that warning light 2
¹ is lit on the
central display and, depending on the
vehicle, that the message “Passenger
airbag off” is displayed.
This light remains permanently lit to
let you know that you can fit a child
seat.The passenger air bag must
only be deactivated or acti-
vated with the ignition off.
If it is interfered with when
the vehicle is being driven, indicator
lights
å and © will come
on.
Switch the ignition off then on again
to reset the air bag in accordance
with the lock.

DANGER
Since front passenger
airbag triggering and the
position of a rear-facing
child seat are incompatible, NEVER
use a restraining device for rear-
facing children on a seat with an
ACTIVATED AIRBAG in front of it.
This provides a risk of DEATH or
SERIOUS INJURY to the CHILD.

Operating faults
It is forbidden to fit a rear-facing child
seat to the front passenger seat if the
air bag activation/deactivation system
is faulty.
Allowing any other passenger to sit in
that seat is not recommended.
If warning lights
› and ¹ are
lit at the same time.
Contact your approved dealer as soon
as possible.
Activating the front
passenger air bags
You should reactivate the air bag as
soon as you remove the child seat from
the front passenger seat to ensure the
protection of the front passenger in the
event of an impact.

The passenger air bag must
only be deactivated or acti-
vated with the ignition off.

Folding door mirrors
The door mirrors automatically fold in
when the vehicle is locked (switch 2 in
position B). In this case, they will fold
out when the ignition is next switched
on.
In any case, you can make the door
mirrors fold in (switch 2 in position C) or
fold out (switch 2 in position A).
Automatic mode is then deactivated. To
reactivate it, position switch 2 to B.
REAR VIEW MIRRORS
Door mirrors
Adjustment
Select the door mirror using switch 3,
then use button 1 to adjust it to the de-
sired position.
Heated door mirrors
Mirror de-icing is carried out at the
same time as rear screen de-icing.
The driver’s door mirror
may have two clearly de-
fined zones. Zone E shows
what can normally be seen
in an ordinary rear view mirror.
Zone D increases rear side visibility.
The objects in zone D look much
further away than they really are.
Interior rear view mirror
Its position can be adjusted.
Rear view mirror with lever 4
When driving at night, to avoid being
dazzled by the headlights of the vehicle
behind, depress the little lever located
behind rear view mirror 4.
Rear view mirror without lever 4
The rear view mirror darkens automati-
cally at night if you are being followed
by a vehicle with its lights on.
