NISSAN recommends thatyour vehicle be
towed withthedriving (front)wheels offthe
ground orplace thevehicle onaflat bed truck as
illustrated.
CAUTION
. Never towCVT models withthefront
wheels onthe ground orfour
wheels onthe ground (forward or
backward) ,as this may cause ser- ious
andexpensive damagetothe
transmission. Ifitis necessary to
tow thevehicle withtherear wheels
raised, always usetowing dollies
under thefront wheels.
. When towing CVTmodels withthe
front wheels ontowing dollies:
Push theignition switchtothe
ACC orON position, andsecure
the steering wheelinastraight-
ahead position witharope orsimi-
lar device. Movetheshift lever to
the N(Neutral) position. .
When towing aCVT model withthe
rear wheels onthe ground (ifyou do
not use towing dollies):Always
release theparking brake.

Lights*: Cleantheheadlights onaregular basis.
Make surethattheheadlights, stoplights, tail
lights, turnsignal lights, andother lights areall
operating properlyandinstalled securely.Also
check headlight aim.
Road wheel nuts(lugnuts)*: Whenchecking
the tires, make surenowheel nutsaremissing,
and check forany loose wheel nuts.Tighten if
necessary .
Tire rotation*: Tiresshould berotated every
5,000 miles(8,000 km).
Tires*: Checkthepressure withagauge often
and always priortolong distance trips.If
necessary ,adjust thepressure inall tires,
including thespare, tothe pressure specified.
Check carefully fordamage, cutsorexcessive
wear.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System(TPMS)
transmitter components: ReplacetheTPMS
transmitter grommetseal,valve coreandcap
when thetires arereplaced duetowear orage.
Wheel alignment andbalance: Ifthe vehicle
should pulltoeither sidewhile driving ona
straight andlevel road, orifyou detect uneven or
abnormal tirewear, theremaybeaneed for
wheel alignment.
If the steering wheelorseat vibrates atnormal
highway speeds,wheelbalancing maybe
needed. For
additional information regardingtires,refer
to ªImportant TireSafety Informationº (US)or
ªTire Safety Informationº (Canada)inthe War-
ranty Information Booklet.
Windshield: Cleanthewindshield onaregular
basis. Check thewindshield atleast every six
months forcracks orother damage. Havea
damaged windshield repairedbyaqualified
repair facility.
Windshield wiperblades*: Checkforcracks
or wear ifthey donot wipe properly .

Brakes: Checkthatthebrakes donot pull the
vehicle toone side when applied. Continuously
Variable Transmission (CVT)
P (Park) position mechanism: Onafairly
steep hill,check thatthevehicle isheld securely
with theshift lever inthe P(Park) position
without applying anybrakes.
Parking brake:Checktheparking brake
operation regularly.The vehicle shouldbe
securely heldonafairly steep hillwith onlythe
parking brakeapplied. Ifthe parking brakeneeds
adjusted, seeaNISSAN dealer.
Seat belts: Check thatallparts ofthe seat belt
system (forexample, buckles,anchors, adjusters
and retractors) operateproperly andsmoothly ,
and areinstalled securely.Check thebelt
webbing forcuts, fraying, wearordamage.
Seats: Checkseatposition controls suchas
seat adjusters, seatbackrecliners,etc.toensure
they operate smoothly andthat alllatches lock
securely inevery position. Checkthatthehead
restraints moveupand down smoothly andthat
the locks (ifso equipped) holdsecurely inall
latched positions.
Steering wheel:Checkforchanges inthe
steering conditions, suchasexcessive freeplay,
hard steering orstrange noises.
Warning lightsandchimes: Makesurethat
all warning lightsandchimes areoperating
properly .

charged tomaintain batteryhealth.
Brake andclutch fluidlevel*: Makesurethat
the brake andclutch fluidlevel isbetween the
MAX andMIN lines onthe reservoir.
Engine coolant level*:Checkthecoolant level
when theengine iscold.
Engine drivebelt*: Makesurethatthedrive
belt isnot frayed, worn,cracked oroily .
Engine oillevel*: Checkthelevel afterparking
the vehicle onalevel surface andturning offthe
engine. Wait more than10minutes forthe oilto
drain backintotheoilpan.
Exhaust system:Makesurethere arenoloose
supports, cracksorholes. Ifthe sound ofthe
exhaust seemsunusual orthere isasmell of
exhaust fumes,immediately havetheexhaust
system inspected byaNISSAN dealer.(See
ªPrecautions whenstarting anddrivingº (P.5-2)
for exhaust gas(carbon monoxide) .)
Fluid leaks: Checkunderthevehicle forfuel,
oil, water orother fluidleaks afterthevehicle has
been parked forawhile. Water dripping fromthe
air conditioner afteruseisnormal. Ifyou should
notice anyleaks orifgasoline fumesareevident,
check forthe cause andhave itcorrected
immediately . Radiator
andhoses: Checkthefront ofthe
radiator andclean offany dirt, insects, leaves,
etc., thatmay have accumulated. Makesurethe
hoses havenocracks, deformation, rotorloose
connections.
Underbody: Theunderbody isfrequently ex-
posed tocorrosive substances suchasthose
used onicy roads ortocontrol dust.Itis very
important toremove thesesubstances, other-
wise rustwillform onthe floor pan,frame, fuel
lines andaround theexhaust system.Atthe end
of winter, theunderbody shouldbethoroughly
flushed withplain water, beingcareful toclean
those areaswhere mudanddirtmay accumu-
late. Foradditional information, seeªCleaning
exteriorº (P.7-2) .
Windshield washerfluid*:Checkthatthere is
adequate fluidinthe reservoir.

When performing anyinspection ormainte-
nance workonyour vehicle, alwaystakecare
to prevent seriousaccidental injurytoyourself or

apply theparking brakesecurely
and block thewheels toprevent

. Besure theignition switchisin the
OFF orLOCK position whenper-
forming anyparts replacement or
repairs.
. Ifyou must workwiththeengine
running, keepyourhands, clothing,
hair andtools away frommoving
fans, belts andanyother moving
parts.
. Itis advisable tosecure orremove
any loose clothing andremove any
jewelry, suchasrings, watches, etc.
before working onyour vehicle. .
Always weareyeprotection when-
ever youwork onyour vehicle.
. Ifyou must runtheengine inan
enclosed spacesuchasagarage, be
sure there isproper ventilation for
exhaust gasestoescape.
. Never getunder thevehicle whileit
is supported onlybyajack. Ifitis
necessary towork under thevehicle,
support itwith safety stands.
. Keep smoking materials, flameand
sparks awayfromfueltank andthe
battery.
. The fuel filter orfuel lines should be
serviced byaNISSAN dealerbe-
cause thefuel lines areunder high
pressure evenwhen theengine is
off.
CAUTION
. Do not work under thehood while
the engine ishot. Turn theengine
off and wait until itcools down.
. Avoid directcontact withused en-
gine oiland coolant. Improperly
disposed engineoil,and engine coolant
and/orothervehicle fluids
can damage theenvironment. Al-
ways conform tolocal regulations
for disposal ofvehicle fluid.
. Never leavetheengine orthe CVT
related component harnessesdis-
connected whiletheignition switch
is in the ONposition.
. Never connect ordisconnect the
battery orany transistorized com-
ponent whiletheignition switchis
in the ONposition.
. Your vehicle isequipped withan
automatic enginecooling fan.Itmay
come onatany time without warn-
ing, even ifthe ignition keyisin the
OFF position andtheengine isnot
running. To avoid injury, always
disconnect thenegative battery
cable before working nearthefan.
