When performing anyinspection ormainte-
nance workonyour vehicle, alwaystakecare
to prevent seriousaccidental injurytoyourself or
damage tothe vehicle. Thefollowing aregeneral
precautions whichshould beclosely observed.
WARNING
. Park thevehicle onalevel surface,
apply theparking brakesecurely
and block thewheels toprevent
the vehicle frommoving. Movethe
shift lever tothe P(Park) position
(CVT model) orthe shift lever tothe
N (Neutral) position(MTmodel) .
. Besure theignition switchisin the
OFF orLOCK position whenper-
forming anyparts replacement or
repairs.
. Ifyou must workwiththeengine
running, keepyourhands, clothing,
hair andtools away frommoving
fans, belts andanyother moving
parts.
. Itis advisable tosecure orremove
any loose clothing andremove any
jewelry, suchasrings, watches, etc.
before working onyour vehicle. .
Always weareyeprotection when-
ever youwork onyour vehicle.
. Ifyou must runtheengine inan
enclosed spacesuchasagarage, be
sure there isproper ventilation for
exhaust gasestoescape.
. Never getunder thevehicle whileit
is supported onlybyajack. Ifitis
necessary towork under thevehicle,
support itwith safety stands.
. Keep smoking materials, flameand
sparks awayfromfueltank andthe
battery.
. The fuel filter orfuel lines should be
serviced byaNISSAN dealerbe-
cause thefuel lines areunder high
pressure evenwhen theengine is
off.
CAUTION
. Do not work under thehood while
the engine ishot. Turn theengine
off and wait until itcools down.
. Avoid directcontact withused en-
gine oiland coolant. Improperly
disposed engineoil,and engine coolant
and/orothervehicle fluids
can damage theenvironment. Al-
ways conform tolocal regulations
for disposal ofvehicle fluid.
. Never leavetheengine orthe CVT
related component harnessesdis-
connected whiletheignition switch
is in the ONposition.
. Never connect ordisconnect the
battery orany transistorized com-
ponent whiletheignition switchis
in the ONposition.
. Your vehicle isequipped withan
automatic enginecooling fan.Itmay
come onatany time without warn-
ing, even ifthe ignition keyisin the
OFF position andtheengine isnot
running. To avoid injury, always
disconnect thenegative battery
cable before working nearthefan.

Refill thereservoir morefrequently whendriving

window washerfluid.
Recommended fluid:
Genuine NISSAN Windshield Washer Concen-
trate Cleaner &Antifreeze orequivalent
CAUTION
. Donot substitute engineanti-freeze
coolant forwindow washersolution.
This mayresult indamage tothe
paint.
. Do not fillthe window washer
reservoir tankwithwasher fluid
concentrates atfull strength. Some
methyl alcohol basedwasher fluid
concentrates maypermanently stain
the grille ifspilled whilefilling the
window washerreservoir tank.
. Pre-mix washerfluidconcentrates
with water tothe manufacturer's
recommended levelsbefore pouring
the fluid intothewindow washer
reservoir tank.Donot use the
window washerreservoir tankto
mix thewasher fluidconcentrate
and water.

. Keep thebattery surface cleananddry.
Clean thebattery withasolution ofbaking
soda andwater.
. Make certain theterminal connections are
clean andsecurely tightened.
. Ifthe vehicle isnot tobe used for30 days or
longer, disconnect thenegative 7battery
terminal cabletoprevent discharging it.
NO TE:
Care should betaken toavoid situations
that canlead topotential batterydischarge
and potential no-startconditions suchas:
1. Installation orextended useofelectro-
nic accessories thatconsume battery
power whentheengine isnot running

T o reduce batterydrain,theextended storage
fuse switch comes fromthefactory switched off.
Prior todelivery ofyour vehicle, theswitch is
pushed in(switched on)and should always
remain on.
If the extended storagefuseswitch isnot
pushed in(switched on),the meter maydisplay
a warning message. SeeªExtended storagefuse
warning messageº (P.2-7) .
If any electrical equipment doesnotoperate,
remove theextended storagefuseswitch and
check foranopen fuse. NO
TE:
If the extended storagefuseswitch mal-
functions orifthe fuse isopen, itis not
necessary toreplace theswitch. Inthis
case, remove theextended storagefuse
switch andreplace itwith anew fuse ofthe
same rating.

1. Remove themechanical keyfrom theIn-
telligent Key .
2. Insert asmall screwdriver intotheslitofthe
corner andtwist itto separate theupper part
from thelower part.Useacloth toprotect the
casing.
3. Replace thebattery withanew one.
Recommended battery:
CR2025 orequivalent

Do not touch theinternal circuitand

Hold thebattery bythe edges. Holding
the battery acrossthecontact pointswill
