To gain extra acceleration in “D” (DRIVE) position (when passing another vehicle) push
the accelerator to the floor. The automatic transaxle will automatically downshift. For short waiting periods, such as at traffic lights, the vehicle can be
left in gear and held
stationary with the service brake. For longer waiting periods with the engine running, place th
e selector lever in the “N”
(NEUTRAL) position a
nd apply the parking
brake, while holding the vehicle stationary with the service brake.Prior to moving off after having stopped the vehicle, make sure that
the selector lever is in
“D” (DRIVE) position or Sports mode posi-tion.
NOTE
 While driving in sports mode, the sports mode display may change to show “D” andshifting in sports
mode may no longer be
possible. This indicates that controls to drive in the “D” position are operati
ng normally in order
to lower the temperature of the automatic transaxle fluid; it doe
s not indicate a mal-
function. Once the temperature of the auto-matic transaxle fluid
drops, shifting in the
sports mode will be possible again.

with the engine run-
ning and the vehicle
stationary, firmly
depress the brake pedal to prevent the vehi-cle from creeping. The vehicle will begin to
move as soon as the
gear is engaged, espe
cially when the engine
speed or idle speed is
high, or with the air
conditioning operating. Do not release the br
ake pedal until you are
ready to drive away. Depress the brake pedal with the right foot at all times.Using the left foot c
ould cause driver move-
ment delay in case of an emergency.
 To prevent sudden acce
leration, never run
the engine at high rpms when shifting fromthe “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL). Operating the accelerator pedal while the other foot is resting on the brake pedal willaffect braking efficiency and may cause pre- mature wear of brake pads. Use the selector lever in the correct shift position in accordance with driving condi- tions.Never coast downhill backward in the driv- ing shift position {“D” (DRIVE), “L” (LOW) position or sports mode} or coastforward in the “R” (REVERSE) position. Engine stopping and increased brake pedal and steering effort could
lead to an accident.

If you press the flasher switch, the front and rear turn signals will flash intermittently, and so will the hazard warn
ing lights. This is an
emergency warning syst
em and should not be
used when the vehicle is in motion, except for emergencies.If you need to leave your
vehicle, the flashers
will keep working after the ignition switch is removed or the operation
mode is put in OFF.

for a burned out turn signal light bulb or mal- functioning connect
ion in the signal.
If the panel light does not come on when the lever is moved, check for a blown fuse or a burned out bulb in the panel.Have the system inspected by your autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.  It is possible to modify functions as follows: • Deactivate the turn signal light 3-flash function for lane changes. • Adjust the time required to operate the lever for the 3-flash function. Hold the bottom of the steering wheel with one hand. Then, to move the trailer to the left, just move that hand to the left. To move thetrailer to the right, move your hand to the right. Always back up sl
owly and, if possible,
have someone guide you. When you’re turning with a trailer, make wider than normal turns to help prevent the trailer from striking shoulders, curbs, roadsigns, trees or other objects. Avoid jerky or sudde
n maneuvers. Signal
well in advance. Towing a trailer puts a
dditional burden on the
engine and transaxle,
which may cause over-
heating. Following ar
e some suggestions to
reduce overheating: When towing at high al
titudes, engine coolant
and automatic transaxle oil will overheat at a lower temperature than at normal altitudes.If you turn your engine off immediately after towing at high altitude
on steep uphill grades,
your vehicle may show
signs similar to over-
heating. To avoid this
, let the engine run
while parked (preferably on level ground) with the automatic transaxle in the “P”(PARK) position for a few minutes before turning the engine off.  If the engine coolant temperature indica- tor flashes on the in
formation screen in
the multi-information display or the engine power drops suddenly, refer to “Engine overheating” on page 8-4.
 If the warning display or warning display illuminates, re
fer to “Warning dis-
play” on page 5-62, 5-69.
Reduce speed and downshift before you start down a long or steep downgrade. If you don’t downshift, over using the brakes can cause reduced brake efficiency. You can tow in “D” (DRIVE) position. You may want to shift the selector lever to the 3rd or a lower position, under heavy loads or hillyconditions. Always place chocks or blocks under both the vehicle and trailer wheels when parking. Be sure that the parking brake is firmly set and that the selector lever is in the “P” (PARK)position. Avoid parki
ng on a hill with a
trailer, but if it cannot be avoided, do so only after performing the following: 1. Apply the brakes and keep them applied. 2. Have someone plac
e chocks or blocks
under both the vehicle
and trailer wheels.
