The seat belt webbing may be cleaned withmild soap or detergent solution. Do not use an organic solvent. Allow the belts to dry in the shade. Do not allow them to retract until com-pletely dry. Do not attempt to bleach or re-
dye the belts. The color may rub off and the webbing strength may be affected. Regularly check your seat belt buckles and their release mechanisms for positive engage- ment and release of the latch plate. Check theretractors for automatic locking when in the Automatic Locking Retractor function. The entire seat belt assembly should be replaced if the webbing shows any obviouscuts, tears, increase in thickness in any sec-tion of the webbing from broken fibers, or severe fading from sunlight. All of these con- ditions indicate a weakening of the belt, which may adversely affect seat belt perfor- mance in an accident.

This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which includes air-bags for the driver and passengers. The SRS front airbags are designed to supple- ment the primary protection of the driver and front passenger seat belt systems by provid-ing those occupants with protection againsthead and chest injuries in certain moderate to severe frontal collisions. The SRS front airbags, together with sensorsat the front of the vehicle and sensors attached to the front seats, form an advanced airbag system. The SRS driver’s knee airbag is designed to supplement the primary protection of the driver’s seat belt system. It can reduce the forward movement of the driver’s lower legsand provide increased overall body protection in certain moderate to severe frontal colli- sions. The SRS side airbags and the curtain airbags are also designed to supplement the seat belts. The SRS side airbags provide the driver and front passenger with protection against chestinjuries by deploying the bag on the side impacted in moderate to severe side impact
WA R N I N G Any child who is too small to properly wear a seat belt must be properly restrained in an appropriate childrestraint system, to reduce their risk of serious injury or death in an accident. A child should never be left unattended in, or unsupervised, around your vehicle. When you leave the vehicle, always takethe child out as well. Children can die from heat stroke if left or trapped inside the vehicle, especially on hot days. Keep your vehicle locked and the trunk lid closed when not in use. Keep your vehicle keys away from children. Never allow children to play in the trunk of your vehicle.
Maintenance and inspection of seat belts
WA R N I N G Do not attempt to repair or replace any part of the seat belt assemblies. This workshould be done by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Failure to have an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealerperform the work could reduce the effec- tiveness of the belts and could result in a serious injury or death in an accident.

SRS servicing
WA R N I N G Any maintenance performed on or near the components of the SRS should be per- formed only by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Do not permit anyone elseto do any service, inspection, maintenance or repair on any SRS components or wir- ing. Similarly, no part of the SRS shouldever be handled, removed or disposed by anyone except an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.Improper work methods on the SRS com- ponents or wiring could result in an acci- dental airbag deployment or could makethe SRS inoperable. Either of these situa- tions could result in serious injury or death. Do not modify your steering wheel or any other SRS component or related vehiclepart. For example, replacement of the steering wheel, or modifications to the front bumper or body structure canadversely affect SRS performance and may lead to injury. If your vehicle has received any damage, you should have the SRS inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer to make sure it is in proper working order.
Do not modify your front seats, center pil- lar or center console. Such modifications can adversely affect SRS performance and may lead to injury. Also, if you discover any tear or openseam in the seat fabric near the side air- bag, have the seat inspected by an autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. If you find a crack in or damage to the front pillar, rear pillar, or roof side railwhere the curtain airbag is located, have the SRS inspected by an authorized Mit- subishi Motors dealer.NOTE
When you transfer ownership of the vehicle to another person, we urge you to alert the new owner that it is equipped with the SRS and refer that owner to the applicable sec-tions in this owner’s manual. If you decide to junk or scrap your vehicle, we urge you to first take
it to an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer so that the SRS can be made safe for disposal. If any of the following parts needs to be modified for use by a handicapped person, the advanced airbag system will be greatly affected. When the ignition switch is set to the “ON” position, operate the Twin Clutch SST control mode switch (A) to change the control mode. When the engine is started, the control mode is automatically set to the “Normal” mode. Use the following procedures to change the control mode. While the vehicle is stopped or being driven, push the Twin Clutch SST control modeswitch forward.
S-Sport
(Super Sport)
In the “S-Sport” mode, shifting occurs at higher engine speeds and is even quicker than in the “Sport” mode. “S-Sport” mode is designed to be used while driving on closed circuit tracks. Do not use this mode on public roads.
NOTE
Damage to your vehicle caused by racing and/or driving on closed circuit tracks will not be covered under warranty. Please reviewthe “WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL: NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY”.
Tw i n C l u t c h SST control
mode
Characteristic
When continuously driving on closed circuit racetracks or at other locations where the engine is operated at high speeds and under a heavy load, the Twin Clutch SST fluid tem- perature will have a tendency to rise.In this case, if the temperature rises too high, the warning display will appear on the information screen in the multi-information display to alert the driver. If the warning display appears, be sure to refer to “Warning display” on page 5-60 and follow the appropriate measures. The Twin Clutch SST control mode can be selected both when “D” range operation is selected and when manual shifting is selected. If you select “Sport” mode or “S-Sport” mode while the engine is cold, the transmis-sion may shift up at different speeds com- pared to that when the engine is warm. This is simply the operation of the controlsystem to warm the engine quickly. It does not indicate a malfunction. For slippery road surfaces, such as roads with accumulated snow, “Normal” mode is recommended for smooth shifting at low engine speeds.NOTE

Tire pressure monitoring system
Features and controls 5-87
5
Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehi- cle’s handling and stopping ability. Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute forproper tire maintenance, and it is the driver’s responsibility to maintain correct tire pres- sure, even if under-inflation has not reachedthe level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also been equipped with aTPMS malfunction indicator to indicate whenthe system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one min- ute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists. When the malfunction indicator is illumi- nated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended.TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on thevehicle that prevent the TPMS from function- ing properly. Always check the TPMS mal- function telltale after replacing one or moretires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels
allow the TPMS to continue to function prop- erly.

1. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light illuminates, avoid hard braking, sharp steering maneuvers andhigh speeds. You should stop and adjustthe tires to the proper inflation pressure as soon as possible. Adjust the spare tire at the same time. Refer to “Tires” on page9-12.
2. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light remains illuminated after you have been driving for about 20 min- utes after you adjust the tire inflation pres-sure, one or more of the tires may have apuncture. Inspect the tire and if it has a puncture, have it repaired by an autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon aspossible.
If the warning light/display illu- minates while driving
NOTE
In addition, the warning display is displayed on the information screen in the multi-infor- mation display. When inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, do not apply excessive force to thevalve stem to avoid breakage. After inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, always reinstall the valve cap on the valve stem. Without the valve cap, dirt or moisture could get into the valve, resulting in damage to the tire inflation pressure sensor. Do not use metal valve caps, which may cause a metal reaction, resulting in corrosionand damage of the tire inflation pressure sen- sors.
Once adjustments have been made, the warn- ing light will go off after a few minutes of driving.WA R N I N G If the warning light/display illuminates while you are driving, avoid hard braking, sharp steering maneuvers and high speeds. Driving with an under-inflated tireadversely affects vehicle performance and can result in an accident.CAUTION If a tire has a puncture, replace that tire with the spare tire. Driving on a punctured tire could lead to an accident. The warning light/displ
ay may not illuminate
immediately in the event of a tire blowout orrapid leak.NOTE
