The emergency trunk lid release is designedto provide a way to open the trunk lid from inside the trunk. It was developed to help pre- vent death and serious injuries to childrenwho might become locked inside a vehicle trunk.
Operation from inside the vehicle
CAUTION Do not use the trunk lid release lever while the vehicle is moving. If the trunk lid is opened, objects in the trunk could fall ontothe road and cause an accident.NOTE
 The trunk area light comes on when the trunk lid is opened, and goes out when it is closed.  The trunk area light remains illuminated for a certain period and then goes off automati- cally. Refer to “Interior light auto-cutout function (dome light and other lights)” onpage 5-162.
To close
CAUTION When closing the trunk lid, always ensure your or other person’s fingers cannot becaught by the trunk lid. Before starting the vehicle, be sure to con- firm that the trunk lid is locked. If the trunk lid opens while driving the vehicle, objects stored in the trunk could fall out onto theroad.
NOTE
 Gas struts (A) are installed in the locations illustrated to support the trunk lid. Please observe the following in order to prevent damage or faulty operation. • Do not touch, push or pull the gas struts when closing the trunk lid. • Do not attach any plastic material, tape, etc., to the gas struts. • Do not tie string, etc., around the gas struts. • Do not hang any object on the gas struts.

The emergency trunk lid release lever (see illustration) is mounted on the trunk lid. The lever glows in the dark after exposure to sunlight. You and your family should familiarize your- selves with the location and operation of the emergency trunk lid release lever. Childrenshould be taught not to play in or aroundvehicles.
To open the trunk from the inside, move the lever (A) in the direction of the arrow on thelever. Push up on the trunk lid to open the trunk and climb out.

The theft-alarm system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry into thevehicle. This system is operated in three stages: the first is the “armed” stage, the sec- ond is the “alarm” stage,
and third is the “dis-
armed” stage. If triggered, the system provides both audible and visual alarm sig- nals. Park the vehicle and stop the engine. Arm the system as described below. 1. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position.Also, if a key was used to start the engine, remove the key from the ignition switch. 2. Make sure that the trunk lid and enginehood are closed. 3. Lock all doors by either the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.
WA R N I N G Children should never be left unsuper- vised in or around vehicles. Unsupervised children could lock them- selves in an open vehicle or trunk.
 People trapped inside a vehicle or trunk, even if only for a short period of time, can quickly die from suffocation or heat stroke, especially on hot days. Interior temperatures in vehicles can rise in min-utes. Keep your vehicle doors locked and the trunk lid closed when not in use. Keep your vehicle keys away from children.CAUTION When loading the trunk, place your things so that they will not touch the emergency trunk lid release lever when you close the trunk. At this time, the theft-alarm indicator (A) on the audio panel flashes for confirma- tion. 4. The system has entered the armed stage after about 20 seconds, when the theft-alarm indicator (A) flashing becomes slower. The theft-alarm indicator (A) continues toflash while the system is in the armed stage.
The alarm will be activated if any of the fol- lowing occur while the vehicle is parked andthe system is armed.
 One of the doors is opened without using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.- key operation.  The engine hood or the trunk lid is opened.
When the alarm is activated: 1. The headlights blink on and off for 3 min- utes.After 3 minutes the headlights automati- cally shut off. 2. The horn will sound intermittently for 3minutes.
Arm the system and leave
NOTE
 If the engine hood or the trunk lid is open, the theft-alarm indicator (A) illuminates and the system cannot enter the armed stage. The system enters the armed stage about 20 sec- onds after the engine hood or the trunk lid isclosed.  The system will be disarmed if, while the theft-alarm indicator (A) is illuminated, all doors are unlocked by the keyless entry sys- tem, the F.A.S.T.-key operation.  The system will be disarmed if, while the theft-alarm indicator is illuminated, the igni-tion switch is turned to the “ON” position.  The system will not be
armed if a door or the
trunk lid or the engine hood is not com- pletely closed. If this happens, rearm the sys- tem as described above.  The theft-alarm system can be activated when people are riding inside the vehicle orwhen the windows are open. To prevent acci- dental activation of the alarm, do not set the system to the system armed mode while peo-ple are riding in the vehicle.

When there is information to be announced, such as a key reminder, the buzzer sounds and switches to the warning display screen. Referto the appropriate page and take the necessarymeasures. When the cause of the warning display is eliminated, the warning display goes outautomatically. Refer to “Warning display list (With ignition switch in the “OFF” position)” on page5-111.
Even if the cause of the warning display is not eliminated, you can return to the screen that was displayed before the warning dis-play. If you press the multi-information meter switch, the display screen switches to thescreen display from before the warning andthe “!” warning is displayed.
When the “!” warning is displayed, if you lightly press the multi-information meter switch a few times, the warning display screen you switched from is redisplayed.Refer to “Information screen (With ignition switch in the “OFF” position)” on page 5-92.

When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position, the display screen switches inthe following order.
When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position, the system check screen is displayed for about 4 seconds. If there is no fault, information screen (when the ignitionswitch is “ON”) is displayed. If there is a fault, the screen changes to warn- ing display. Refer to “Warning display list(when the ignition switch is “ON”)” on page 5-114.
When the time for periodic inspection arrives, “PERIODIC INSPECTION” is displayed for a few seconds after the screen that is initiallydisplayed when the ignition switch is turned “ON”. Refer to “Service reminder” on page 5-101.

Firmly apply the parking brake and put the gearshift lever into the “N” (Neutral)position (manual transaxle) or the gear- shift lever into the “P” (PARK) position (Twin Clutch SST).2. When you lightly press the multi-informa-tion meter switch, the information screen switches to the function setting screen. Refer to “Information screen (With igni-tion switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-96.
3. Press and hold the multi-information meter switch (for about 2 seconds or more) to switch from the setting mode screen to the menu screen. 4. CAUTION For safety, stop the vehicle before operating. While driving, even if you operate the multi-information meter switch, the function set- ting screen is not displayed.
NOTE
 To return the menu screen to the function set- ting screen, press and hold the multi-infor- mation meter switch (for about 2 seconds or more).  If no operations are made within about 15 seconds of the menu screen being displayed,the display returns to the function setting screen.
