If a tow truck is not available in an emergency, your vehicle may be tem-
porarily towed using a cable or chain secured to the emergency towing
hook. This should only be attempted on hard surfaced roads for 50 miles
(80 km) at low speeds.
A driver must be in the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes. The vehi-
cle’s wheels, drive train, axles, steer ing and brakes must be in good con-
dition.

Securely attach a cable or chain to the towing hook.
Take care not to damage the vehicle body.
Enter the vehicle being towed and start the engine.
If the engine does not start, turn the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch to IGNITION ON mode.
Shift the four-wheel drive control switch to “H4”. (The center dif-
ferential is unlocked.)
Change the vehicle height to N (standard) mode and press the
height control OFF button to en d the vehicle height operation.

If the engine is not running, the power assist for the brakes and steering will not
function, making steering and braking more difficult. ■

adjustment or repair. Contact your Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
■ Visible symptoms
● Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air conditioning after use is normal.)
● Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
● Engine coolant temperature gaug e needle continually points
higher than normal
● Engine oil pressure gauge continually points lower than normal.
● Voltmeter continually points higher or lower than normal.
■ Audible symptoms
● Changes in exhaust sound
● Excessive tire squeal when cornering
● Strange noises related to the suspension system
● Pinging or other noises related to the engine
■ Operational symptoms
● Engine missing, stumbling or running rough
● Appreciable loss of power
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
● Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
● Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touches
the floor

If a warning light turns on or a warning buzzer sounds...Stop the vehicle immediately. Continui ng to drive the vehicle may be
dangerous.
The following warning in dicates a possible prob lem in the brake system.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a sa fe place and contact your Lexus
dealer.
* : Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
A buzzer sounds to indicate that the parking brake is still engaged (with the
vehicle having reached a speed of 3 mph [5 km/h]).
Stop the vehicle immediately.
The following warning indicates the po ssibility of damage to the vehicle
that may lead to an accident. Immedia tely stop the vehicle in a safe place

• Malfunction in the brake system
This light also comes on when the parking brake is not
released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is fully
released the system is operating normally.

Charging system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system.Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning lights turn on or
flash. If a light turns on or flashes, bu t then turns off, this does not necessar-
ily indicate a malfunction in the system. However, if this continues to occur,
have the vehicle inspecte d by your Lexus dealer.
