Exhaust gas precautions
Harmful substance to the human body is included in exhaust gases if inhaled.
CAUTION
Exhaust gases include harmful carbon monoxi de (CO), which is colorless and odorless.
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause exhaust gases enter the vehicle and may lead to an accident
caused by light-headedness, or may lead to death or a serious health hazard.
■Important points while driving
●Keep the back door closed.
●If you smell exhaust gases in the vehicle even when the back door is closed, open the
windows and have the vehicle inspected at your Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
■When parking
●If the vehicle is in a poorly ventilated area or a closed area, such as a garage, stop the
engine.
●Do not leave the vehicle with the engine running for a long time.
If such a situation cannot be avoided, park the vehicle in an open space and ensure
that exhaust fumes do not enter the vehicle interior.
●Do not leave the engine running in an area with snow build-up, or where it is snowing.
If snowbanks build up around the vehicle wh ile the engine is running, exhaust gases
may collect and enter the vehicle.
■Exhaust pipe
The exhaust system needs to be checked periodically. If there is a hole or crack caused
by corrosion, damage to a joint or abnormal exhaust noise, be sure to have the vehicle
inspected and repaired by your Lexus dealer.

The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
■Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure of the follow-
ing.
●Nobody is in the vehicle.
●The windows and moon roof are closed before the alarm is set.
●No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.
■Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations:
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
●A person inside the vehicle opens a door or
hood.
●The battery is recharged or replaced when the

Side doors

Carry the electronic key to enable this function.
Grip the driver’s door handle to
unlock the door. Grip the passen-
ger’s door handle to unlock all the
doors.

3 seconds after the doors are locked.

Operation of each component
■Operation signals
Doors: A buzzer sounds and the emergency flas hers flash to indicate that the doors have
been locked/unlocked. (Locked: once; Unlocked: twice)
Windows and moon roof: A buzzer sounds to indicate that the windows and moon roof
are operating.
■Security feature
If a door is not opened within approximately 60 seconds after the vehicle is unlocked, the
security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.
■When the door cannot be locked by the lock sensor on the upper part of the door han-
dle
■Door lock buzzer
If an attempt to lock the doors is made when a door is not fully closed, a buzzer sounds
continuously. Fully close the door to stop the buzzer, and lock the vehicle once more.
■Setting the alarm
Locking the doors will set the alarm system. ( P. 7 0 )
■If the smart access system with push-butto n start or the wireless remote control does
not operate properly
Use the mechanical key to lock and unlock the doors. ( P. 5 4 9 )
Replace the battery with a new one if it is depleted. ( P. 4 8 3 )
If the door will not lock even when the topside
sensor area is touched, try touching both the
topside and underside sensor areas at the same
time.

■Impact detection door lock release system
In the event that the vehicle is subject to a strong impact, all the doors are unlocked.
Depending on the force of the
impact or the type of accident, however, the system may
not operate.
■Using the mechanical key

CAUTION
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door open ing and an occupant being thrown out of the
vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury.
●Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked.
●Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even if the
inside lock buttons ar e in locked position.
●Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are seated in the rear seats.
■When using the wireless remote control and operating the power windows and moon
roof
Operate the power window or moon roof afte r checking to make sure that there is no
possibility of any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the window or
moon roof. Also, do not allow children to oper ate the wireless remote control. It is pos-
sible for children and other passengers to get caught in power window and moon roof.

Operation of each component
■When opening the glass hatch
●Open the glass hatch slowly and carefully.
●Use the glass hatch opener or wireless remote control when the back door is closed.
■Operation signals (when opening wi th the wireless remote control)
A buzzer sounds once to indicate that the glass hatch have been opened.
■Opening the glass hatch while the rear window wiper is in operation
Rear window wiper operation will stop mo ving. Operation will recommence after the
glass hatch has been closed.
■Function to prevent the glass hatch bein g locked with the electronic key inside
●When all doors are being locked, closing the glass hatch with the electronic key left
inside the luggage compartment will sound an alarm.
In this case, the glass hatch can be opened using the entry function.
●Even when the spare electronic key is put in the luggage compartment with all the
doors locked, the key confinement prevention function can be activated so the glass
hatch can be opened. In order to prevent theft, take all electronic keys with you when
leaving the vehicle.
●Even when the electronic key is put in the luggage compartment with all the doors are
locked, the key may not be detected depending on the places and the surrounding
radio wave conditions. In this case, the ke y confinement prevention function cannot be
activated, causing the doors to lock when th e glass hatch is closed. Make sure to check
where the key is before closing the glass hatch.
■After closing the glass hatch
Check that the glass hatch is firm ly locked. If it is not firmly locked, the rear window wiper
and washer will not operate correctly.
■Customization
The glass hatch opening operation can be changed. (Customizable features: P. 5 8 6 )
