7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
If the parking brake cannot be released
●Shift the shift lever to P.
●Turn the engine switch off.
●Check that the parking brake indicator is off.
●Chock the tires.
Take out the parking brake
release tool and the screwdriver
from the trunk. (→P. 503)
Fit the parking brake release tool into
the screwdriver handle.
Take out the spare tire. ( →P. 502)
In the event that the battery is discha rged or switch operation does not
release the parking brake, the parking brake can be released manually
using the procedure below. This pr ocedure should be performed only if
necessary, such as in an emergency.
If the switch cannot be operated even when the battery is normal, the
parking brake system may be ma lfunctioning. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexu s dealer immediately.

■Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to P and press the engine switch as you normally do when stop-
ping the engine.
■Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the elec-
tronic key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted. (→P. 4 2 5 )
■Changing engine switch modes
Release the brake pedal and press the engine switch in step above.
The engine does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is
pressed.( →P. 1 7 8 )
■When the electronic key does not work properly
●Make sure that the smart access system with push-button start has not been deac-
tivated in the customization setting. If it is off, turn the function on.

●Check if battery-saving mode is set. If it is set, cancel the function. ( →P. 113)
CAUTION
■When using the mechanical key and operating the power windows and moon
roof
Operate the power window or moon roof after checking to make sure that there is
no possibility of any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the window
or moon roof.
Also, do not allow children to operate the mechanical key. It is possible for children
and other passengers to get caught in the power window or moon roof.

If your vehicle overheats
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn off the air conditioning system,
and then stop the engine.
If you see steam:
Carefully lift the hood after the steam subsides.
If you do not see steam:
Carefully lift the hood.
After the engine has cooled down sufficiently, inspect the hoses and
radiator core (radiator) for any leaks. Radiator

If a large amount of coolant leaks,
immediately contact your Lexus
dealer.
The following may indicate that your vehicle is overheating.
●The needle of the engine coolant temperature gauge ( →P. 81) enters
the red zone or a loss of engine power is experienced. (For example,
the vehicle speed does not increase.)
●Steam is coming from under the hood.

lines on the reservoir.

Water can be used in an emergency if
coolant is unavailable.
Start the engine and turn the air conditioning system on to check that
the radiator cooling fans operate and to check for coolant leaks from
the radiator or hoses.
The fans operate when the air conditioning system is turned on immediately after
a cold start. Confirm that the fans are operating by checking the fan sound and air
flow. If it is difficult to check these, turn the air conditioning system on and off
repeatedly. (The fans may not operate in freezing temperatures.)
If the fans are not operating:
Stop the engine immediately an d contact your Lexus dealer.
If the fans are operating:
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest Lexus dealer.

ATTENTION
■Précautions relatives aux coussins gonflables SRS
●Ne touchez à aucun composant des coussins gonflables SRS immédiatement
après leur déploiement (gonflage), car ils pourraient être chauds.
●Si vous avez de la difficulté à respirer après le déploiement des coussins gon-
flables SRS, ouvrez une portière ou une glace pour laisser entrer l’air, ou quittez
le véhicule si vous pouvez le faire en toute sécurité. Dès que possible, nettoyez
tous les résidus afin d’éviter les irritations cutanées.
●Si les emplacements de stockage des coussins gonflables SRS, notamment le
tampon de volant, la porte de la boîte à gants et les garnitures des montants avant
et arrière, sont endommagés ou fissurés, faites-les remplacer par votre conces-

■Modification et mise au rebut des composants du système de coussins gonflables
SRS
