SPEEDOMETER (S PEED INDICATOR)
Indicator A s hows the s peed of the car.
REV COUNTER
Indicator D s hows the engine revs .
FUEL LEVEL GAUGE
Indicator B shows the amount of fuel in the tank.
The
Kwarning light will switch on (together with a me s-
s age on the dis play) to indicate there are between 5 and
7 litres of fuel remaining.
Do not travel with the fuel tank almo st empty : any gaps
in fuel delivery could damage the catal ytic converter.
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE
G auge C s hows the temperature of the engine coolant and
indicates when the coolant temperature exceed s 50°C. The
firs t reference remains on constantly to indicate that the
system is operating correctly . The
uwarning light switch-
e s on (together with a me ssage on the display) to indi-
cate that the temperature of the engine coolant ha s in-
creas ed significantly . In this event, s top the engine and
go to a Lancia Dealers hip. INS
TRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS
Important information
The warning lights s witch on together with a dedicated
message and/or a buzzer where appropriate. The se indi-
cations are precautionary and as s uch mus t not be con-
s idered a s exhaus tive and/or alternative to the informa-
tion contained in the Owner Handbook, which y ou are ad-
vis ed to read carefully in all cases. Always refer to the in-
formation in thi s chapter in the event of a failure indica-
tion.
Low brake fluid level (red)Turning the key to the MAR pos ition illumi-
nates the warning light, but it s hould switch off
after a few s econds. The warning light switches
on when the brake fluid in the re servoir falls below the
minimum level, po ssibly due to a leak in the cir
cuit. The
dis play shows the dedicated message.
Handbrake on (red)
When the key is turned to MAR, the warning light switch-
e s on but it s hould switch off after a few seconds . The
warning light s witches on when the handbrake i s engaged.
If the car is moving the buzzer will al so sound.
IMPORTANT If the warning light turn s on when travel-
ling, check that the handbrake i s not engaged.

Engine coolant overheating (red)
Turning the key to the MAR pos ition illumi-
nates the warning light, but it s hould switch off
after a few s econds. The warning light turn s on
when the engine is overheated. If the warning light s witch-
e s on when driving, proceed a s follows :
❍ when driving normally : stop the car, s witch off the en-
gine and check that the water level in the re servoir is
not below the MIN mark. If it is, wait for the engine
to cool down, then slowly and carefull y open the cap,
top up with coolant and check that the level is between
the MIN and MAX mark s on the res ervoir. Also check
vis ually for any fluid leaks . in this case, go to a Lan-
cia Dealers hip if the warning light should switch on
when the engine is started again.
❍ if the vehicle is used under demanding condition s (e.g.
towing trailers uphill or fully loaded): slow down and,
if the light s tays on, stop the car
. Wait for 2 or 3 min-
utes with the engine running and slightly accelerated
to further favour the coolant circulation. Then stop the
engine. Check the correct coolant level a s des cribed
above. IMPORTANT Over demanding routes
, it is advis able to
keep the engine on and s lightly accelerated for a few min-
utes before s witching it off. The di splay will s how the ded-
icated message.

186STARTING AND DRIVING
Never bump start the engine by pushing, tow-
ing or coasting downhill. This could cause fu-
el to flow into the catalytic converter and
damage it beyond repair.
HOW TO WARM UP THE ENGINE
AFTER IT HAS JUST STARTED
Proceed as follows:
❍ drive off slowly, letting the engine turn at medium
speed. Do not accelerate abruptly;
❍ do not demand maximum performance for the first few
kilometres. Wait until the engine coolant gauge starts
moving. ENGINE SWITCHING OFF
Turn the ignition key to STOP while the engine is idling.
IMPORTANT After a demanding drive, you should al-
low the engine to “catch its breath” before turning it off
by letting it idle to allow the temperature in the engine
compartment to fall.
A quick burst on the accelerator before turn-
ing off the engine serves absolutely no prac-
tical purpose; it wastes fuel and is especially
damaging to turbocharged engines.

PERIODIC CHECKS
Every 1,000 km or before long journeys, check and, if nec-
essary, top up the following:
❍engine coolant fluid level;
❍ brake fluid level;
❍ windscreen washer fluid level;
❍ tyre pressure and condition;
❍ operation of lighting system (headlights, direction in-
dicators, hazard warning lights, etc.);
❍ operation of the windscreen/rear window wiper/wash-
er system, position and wear of windscreen/rear win-
dow wiper blades;
Every 3,000 km check and top up if required: engine oil
level.
DEMANDING USE OF THE CAR
Should the prevailing use of the car be under one of the
following specially demanding conditions:
❍ trailer or caravan towing;
❍ dusty roads;
❍ short (less than 7-8 km) and repeated journeys in sub-
zero temperatures;
❍ engine often idling or driving long distances at low
speeds or prolonged inactivity;
