OWNER MAINTENANCE
The following lists are vehicle checks and
inspections that should be performed atthe frequencies indicated to help ensure
safe, dependable operation of your vehi-
cle. If you have any question, we recom-
mend that you consult an authorised Kia
dealer.
These Owner Maintenance Checks are
generally not covered by warranties and
you may be charged for labour, parts and
lubricants used. Owner maintenance schedule
When you stop for fuel:
• Check the engine oil level.
 Check the coolant level in coolant
reservoir.
 Check the windscreen washer fluid level.
 Look for low or under-inflated tyres.
Whilst operating your vehicle:
 Note any changes in the sound of the exhaust or any smell of exhaust fumes
in the vehicle.
 Check for vibrations in the steering wheel. Notice any increased steering
effort or looseness in the steering
wheel, or change in its straight-aheadposition.
 Notice if your vehicle constantly turns slightly or “pulls” to one side when trav-
elling on smooth, level road.
 When stopping, listen and check for unusual sounds, pulling to one side,
increased brake pedal travel or “hard-
to-push” brake pedal.
 If any slipping or changes in the oper- ation of your transaxle occurs, check
the transaxle fluid level.
 Check automatic transaxle P (Park) function.
 Check the parking brake.
 Check for fluid leaks under your vehicle (water dripping from the air condition-
ing system during or after use is nor-mal).
WARNING
Be careful when checking your
engine coolant level when the
engine is hot. Scalding hot coolant
and steam may blow out under
pressure. This could cause burns
or other serious injury.

At least monthly:
 Check the coolant level in the engine
coolant reservoir.
 Check the operation of all exterior lights, including the stoplights, turn sig-
nals and hazard warning flashers.
 Check the inflation pressures of all tyres including the spare.
At least twice a year
(i.e., every Spring and Fall):
 Check the radiator, heater and air con- ditioning hoses for leaks or damage.
 Check the windscreen washer spray and wiper operation. Clean wiper
blades with clean cloth dampened with
washer fluid.
 Check the headlight alignment.
 Check the muffler, exhaust pipes, shields and clamps.
 Check the lap/shoulder belts for wear and function.
 Check for worn tyres and loose wheel lug nuts.
At least once a year:
 Clean the body and door drain holes.
 Lubricate the door hinges and checks,and bonnet hinges.
 Lubricate the door and bonnet locks and latches.
 Lubricate the door rubber weather- strips.
 Check the air conditioning system.
 Inspect and lubricate automatic transaxle linkage and controls.
 Clean the battery and terminals.
 Check the brake/clutch fluid level.

FUEL FILTER (FOR DIESEL)
Draining water from the fuel filter
The fuel filter for diesel engine plays an
important role of separating water from
fuel and accumulating the water in itsbottom.
If water accumulates in the fuel filter, the
warning light comes on when the ignition
switch is in the ON position. If this warning light illuminates,
we recommend that you con-
tact an authorised Kia dealer.
Extracting air from the fuel filter
If you drove until you have no fuel left or
if you replaced the fuel filter, be sure to
extract air in the fuel system as it makes
you difficult to start the engine.
1. Press the priming pump (1) severaltimes.
2. Open the air extracting hall after removing the bolt (2) using a screw-
driver to extract air.

Repeat the procedure above until all the
air is out. ✽

NOTICE
 Use cloths when you extract air so that the fuel is not sprayed around.
 Clean the fuel around the fuel filter or
the injection pump before starting the
engine to prevent fire.
 Finally, check each part if the fuel is leaking.
Fuel filter cartridge replacement
✽✽ NOTICE
When replacing the fuel filter cartridge,
we recommend that you use parts for
replacement from an authorised Kia
dealer.
CAUTION
If the water accumulated in the fuel filter is not drained at proper times, damages to the major parts such as
the fuel system can be caused bywater permeation in the fuel filter.

Basically equipped battery is mainte-
nance free type. If your vehicle is
equipped with the battery marked with
LOWER and UPPER on the side, you
can check the electrolyte level. The elec-
trolyte level should be between LOWER
and UPPER. If the electrolyte level is
low, it needs to add distilled (demineral-
ized) water (Never add sulfuric acid or
other electrolyte). When refill, be careful
not to splash the battery and adjacent
components. And do not overfill the bat-
tery cells. It can cause corrosion on other
parts. After then ensure that tighten the
cell caps. We recommend that you con-
tact an authorised Kia dealer.WARNING - Battery dangers
Always read the following
instructions carefully when
handling a battery.
Keep lighted cigarettes and all other flames or sparks
away from the battery.
Hydrogen, a highly com- bustible gas, is always pres-
ent in battery cells and may
explode if ignited.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children because
batteries contain highly cor-
rosive SULFURIC ACID. Do
not allow battery acid to con-
tact your skin, eyes, clothingor paint finish.
If any electrolyte gets into your eyes, flush your eyes
with clean water for at least
15 minutes and get immedi-ate medical attention.
If electrolyte gets on your
skin, thoroughly wash the
contacted area. If you feel a
pain or a burning sensation,
get medical attention imme-
diately.

An inappropriately disposed battery can be harmful to
the environment and humanhealth.
Dispose the battery accord- ing to your local law(s) or

 When lifting a plastic-cased bat- tery, excessive pressure on the
case may cause battery acid to
leak, resulting in personal injury.
Lift with a battery carrier or with
your hands on opposite corners.
 Never attempt to recharge the battery when the battery cables are connected.

Your vehicle has a maintenance-free,
calcium-based battery.
 If the battery becomes discharged in a
short time (because, for example, the
headlights or interior lights were left on
whilst the vehicle was not in use),
recharge it by slow charging (trickle)
for 10 hours.
 If the battery gradually discharges because of high electric load whilst the
vehicle is being used, recharge it at 20-
30A for two hours.

 The electrical ignition systemworks with high voltage. Never
touch these components with theengine running or the ignition
switched on.
Failure to follow the above warn-
ings can result in serious bodily
injury or death.
CAUTION
 When you don’t use the vehicle for a long time in the low temper-ature area, separate the battery
and keep it indoors.
 Always charge the battery fully to prevent battery case damage inlow temperature area.
 If you connect unauthorised elec- tric devices to the battery, the bat-tery may be discharged. Never use unauthorised devices.

 When replacing the AGM battery, we recommend that you use parts

Compact spare tyre replacement (if equipped)
A compact spare tyre has a shorter
tread life than a regular size tyre.
Replace it when you can see the
tread wear indicator bars on the tyre.The replacement compact spare tyre
should be the same size and design
tyre as the one provided with your
new vehicle and should be mountedon the same compact spare tyre
wheel. The compact spare tyre is notdesigned to be mounted on a regular
size wheel, and the compact spare
tyre wheel is not designed for mount-
ing a regular size tyre. Wheel replacement
When replacing the metal wheels for
any reason, make sure the new
wheels are equivalent to the original
factory units in diameter, rim widthand offset.
Tyre traction
Tyre traction can be reduced if you
drive on worn tyres, tyres that are
improperly inflated or on slippery
road surfaces. Tyres should be
replaced when tread wear indicators
appear. Slow down whenever there
is rain, snow or ice on the road, toreduce the possibility of losing con-
trol of the vehicle.
Tyre maintenance In addition to proper inflation, correct wheel alignment helps decrease tyre
wear. If you find a tyre worn uneven-
ly, have your dealer check the wheelalignment.
When you have new tyres installed,
make sure they are balanced. This
will increase vehicle ride comfort and
tyre life. Additionally, a tyre should
always be rebalanced if it is removedfrom the wheel.

A wheel that is not the correct
size may adversely affect wheel
and bearing life, braking and
stopping abilities, handling
characteristics, ground clear-
ance, body-to-tyre clearance,
snow chain clearance,speedometer and odometer cal-
ibration, headlight aim and
bumper height.

Temperature -A, B & C
The temperature grades are A (the
highest), B, and C, representing the
tyre’s resistance to the generation ofheat and its ability to dissipate heatwhen tested under controlled condi-
tions on a specified indoor laboratorytest wheel.
Sustained high temperature can
cause the material of the tyre to
degenerate and reduce tyre life, and
excessive temperature can lead to
sudden tyre failure. Grades B and A
represent higher levels of perform-
ance on the laboratory test wheel
than the minimum required by law.Low aspect ratio tyre (if equipped)
Low aspect ratio tyres, whose aspect
ratio is lower than 50, are provided
for sporty looks.
Because the low aspect ratio tyres
are optimized for handling and brak-
ing, it may be more uncomfortable to
ride in and there is more noise com-
pare with normal tyres.
WARNING
- Tyre
temperature
The temperature grade for this
tyre is established for a tyre that
is properly inflated and not over-
loaded. Excessive speed, under-
inflation, or excessive loading,
either separately or in combina-
tion, can cause heat build-up
and sudden tyre failure. This can
cause loss of vehicle control
and serious injury or death.
CAUTION
Because the sidewall of the low aspect ratio tyre is shorter thanthe normal, the wheel and tyre of the low aspect ratio tyre iseasier to be damaged. So, followthe instructions below.
- When driving on a rough road or off road, drive cautiouslybecause tyres and wheels maybe damaged. And after driving, inspect tyres and wheels.
- When passing over a pothole, speed bump, manhole, or kerbstone, drive slowly so that thetyres and wheels are not dam- aged.

- To prevent damage to the tyre, inspect the tyre condition andpressure every 3,000km.
CAUTION
 It is not easy to recognize the tyre damage with your owneyes. But if there is the slight- est hint of tyre damage, eventhough you cannot see thetyre damage with your own eyes, have the tyre checked orreplaced because the tyredamage may cause air leak- age from the tyre.
 If the tyre is damaged by driv- ing on a rough road, off road,pothole, manhole, or kerbstone, it will not be covered by the warranty.
 You can find out the tyre infor- mation on the tyre sidewall.

FUSES
A vehicle’s electrical system is protected
from electrical overload damage by
fuses. This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one
located in the driver’s side panel bolster,
the other in the engine compartment
near the battery.
If any of your vehicle’s lights, acces-
sories, or controls do not work, check the
appropriate circuit fuse. If the fuse is dis-
connected, every electrical system pro-
tected by the fuse will not operate.
Therefore, you must change the fuse. If
the electrical system does not work, first
check the driver’s side fuse panel.
Always replace a blown fuse with one of
the same rating.
Before replacing a blown fuse, disconnect
the negative battery cable.
If the replacement fuse blows, this indi-
cates an electrical problem. Avoid using
the system involved and we recommend
that you consult an authorised Kia deal-
er.
Three kinds of fuses are used: blade type
for lower amperage rating, cartridge typeand multi fuse for higher amperage rat-
ings.
