7Parking brakeInspect the parking brake system
including the parking brake lever (or
pedal) and cables.Brake discs, pads, calipers
and rotorsCheck the pads for excessive wear,
discs for run out and wear, and
calipers for fluid leakage.Exhaust pipe and mufflerVisually inspect the exhaust pipes,
muffler and hangers for cracks, dete-
rioration, or damage. Start the
engine and listen carefully for any
exhaust gas leakage. Tighten con-
nections or replace parts as neces-
sary.
Suspension mounting boltsCheck the suspension connections
for looseness or damage. Retighten
to the specified torque.Steering gear box, linkage &
boots/lower arm ball jointWith the vehicle stopped and engine
off, check for excessive free-play in
the steering wheel.
Check the linkage for bends or dam-
age. Check the dust boots and ball
joints for deterioration, cracks, or
damage. Replace any damaged
parts.Power steering pump, belt and
hoses (if equipped)Check the power steering pump and
hoses for leakage and damage.
Replace any damaged or leaking
parts immediately. Inspect the power
steering belt (or drive belt) for evi-
dence of cuts, cracks, excessive
wear, oiliness and proper tension.
Replace or adjust it if necessary.
Drive shafts and bootsCheck the drive shafts, boots and
clamps for cracks, deterioration, or
damage. Replace any damaged
parts and, if necessary, repack the
grease.Air conditioning refrigerant Check the air conditioning lines and
connections for leakage and dam-
age.

Maintenance
Disc brake pads should be inspectedfor wear whenever tires are rotated.✽
✽ NOTICERotate radial tires that have an
asymmetric tread pattern only from
front to rear and not from right to
left.
Wheel alignment and tire bal-
ance The wheels on your vehicle were
aligned and balanced carefully at the
factory to give you the longest tire life
and best overall performance.
In most cases, you will not need to
have your wheels aligned again.
However, if you notice unusual tire
wear or your vehicle pulling one way
or the other, the alignment may need
to be reset.
If you notice your vehicle vibrating
when driving on a smooth road, your
wheels may need to be rebalanced.

Directional tires (if equipped)
WARNING
Do not use the compact spare
tire (if equipped) for tire rota-
tion.
Do not mix bias ply and radial ply tires under any circum-
stances. This may cause
unusual handling characteris-
tics that could result in death,
severe injury, or property
damage.
CAUTION
Improper wheel weights candamage your vehicle's alu-minum wheels. Use onlyapproved wheel weights.
