Introduction
Gasoline containing alcohol andmethanol
Gasohol, a mixture of gasoline and
ethanol (also known as grain alco-hol), and gasoline or gasohol con-
taining methanol (also known as
wood alcohol) are being marketedalong with or instead of leaded gaso-
line. Do not use gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol, and do not use
gasoline or gasohol containing any
methanol. Either of these fuels may
cause drivability problems and dam-age to the fuel system.
Discontinue using gasohol of any
kind if drivability problems occur.
Vehicle damage or drivability prob-
lems may not be covered by the
manufacturer’s warranty if they resultfrom the use of:
1. Gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol.
2. Gasoline or gasohol containing methanol.
3. Leaded fuel or leaded gasohol.
WARNING
• Do not "top off" after the noz- zle automatically shuts off when refueling.
Always check that the fuel cap is installed securely to pre-
vent fuel spillage in the eventof an accident.
CAUTION
NEVER USE LEADED FUEL. The
use of leaded fuel is detrimentalto the catalytic converter and will damage the engine controlsystem’s oxygen sensor andaffect emission control.
Never add any fuel system clean-ing agents to the fuel tank other than what has been specified.(Consult an authorized Kia deal-er for details.)
CAUTION
Never use gasohol which con- tains methanol. Discontinue useof any gasohol product whichimpairs drivability.

Fuel Gauge
This gauge indicates the approxi- mate amount of fuel remaining in thefuel tank.
✽✽NOTICE
 The fuel tank capacity is given in chapter 8.
 The fuel gauge is supplemented by a low fuel warning light, which
will illuminate when the fuel tank
is nearly empty.
 On inclines or curves, the fuel gauge pointer may fluctuate or the
low fuel warning light may come
on earlier than usual due to the
movement of fuel in the tank. ✽

NOTICE
Fuel display may not be accurate if
you are filling in sloping places.
WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap
when the engine is hot. Theengine coolant is under pressure
and could severely burn. Wait
until the engine is cool before
adding coolant to the reservoir.
CAUTION
If the gauge pointer moves beyond the normal range area toward the “H” position, it indi-cates overheating that maydamage the engine.
Do not continue driving with anoverheated engine. If your vehi- cle overheats, refer to “If theEngine Overheats” in chapter 6.

WARNING - Fuel Gauge
Running out of fuel can expose
vehicle occupants to danger.
You must stop and obtain addi-
tional fuel as soon as possibleafter the warning light comes
on or when the gauge indicator
comes close to the “E (Empty)”
level.
CAUTION
Avoid driving with a extremely low fuel level. Running out offuel could cause the engine tomisfire damaging the catalytic converter.

When the ABS Warning Light is on
or both ABS and Parking Brake &
Brake Fluid Warning Lights are on,
the speedometer, odometer, or trip-
meter may not work. Also, the EPS
Warning Light may illuminate and
the steering effort may increase or
decrease.
In this case, we recommend you
have the vehicle inspected by an
authorized Kia dealer as soon as
possible.Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
This warning light illuminates:

When there is a malfunction with the emission control system.

Lamp (MIL) illuminates, poten-tial catalytic converter damageis possible which could result in loss of engine power.
In this case, we recommend thatyou have the vehicle inspectedby an authorized Kia dealer assoon as possible.

Engine Oil PressureWarning Light
This warning light illuminates:
Once you set the Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position.
- It remains on until the engine isstarted.
When the engine oil pressure is low.
If the engine oil pressure is low:
1.Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.
2.Turn the engine off and check the engine oil level (For more details,
refer to “Engine Oil” in section 7). If
the level is low, add oil as required.
If the warning light remains on after
adding oil or if oil is not available,
we recommend that you have the
vehicle inspected by an authorized
Kia dealer as soon as possible.
Low Fuel Level Warning
Light
This warning light illuminates:
When the fuel tank is nearly empty.
When the fuel tank is nearly empty, the color of the fuel level symbol will change (white → orange). (for
type B cluster)
If the fuel tank is nearly empty:
Add fuel as soon as possible.
CAUTION - Engine Oil
Pressure Warning Light

If the engine does not stop immediately after the EngineOil Pressure Warning Light isilluminated, severe damage could result.
If the warning light stays onwhile the engine is running, itindicates that there may beserious engine damage or malfunction. In this case,
1. Stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Turn off the engine and check the oil level. If the oillevel is low, fill the engineoil to the proper level.
3. Start the engine again. If the warning light stays on afterthe engine is started, turnthe engine off immediately.In this case, we recommend that you have the vehicleinspected by an authorizedKia dealer.
CAUTION - Low Fuel
Level
Driving with the Low Fuel Level
warning light on or with the fuellevel below “E” can cause theengine to misfire and damage the catalytic converter (if equipped).

Avoid driving with a extremly lowfuel level. Running out of fuel could
cause the engine to misfire, dam-
aging the catalytic converter.
Failure to observe these precautionscould result in damage to the catalyt-
ic converter and to your vehicle.
Additionally, such actions could void
your warranties.
